I didn’t sleep.

How could I?

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her…. perfect red lips, smug expression, and the way Daniel hesitated when she said he still wanted her.

Hesitated.

That tiny pause told me everything I needed to know, and God, it burned.

Morning sunlight filtered weakly through my curtains, but it brought no warmth.

I forced myself to get up and head to the bathroom. My eyes were puffy. My heart felt heavier than it had the night before.

I had to be strong. I wouldn’t let Crystal or Daniel….or whatever messy past they shared…tear me down.

As I stepped out into the hallway, I met an almost empty flat.

Kareem said Daniel had gone out early for a meeting.

But the strange part?

Crystal was still here.

Sitting in the living room, legs crossed, sipping espresso like she owned the place.

She looked up at me and smiled, the kind of smile that made your spine itch.
