CHAPTER 40

ZYLIAH’S POV

"Grandpapa says you're our daddy. Is it true?" Casper asked between mouthfuls of buffalo wings.

It was dinnertime, and everyone was at the table.

"Do not talk while eating, Casper," I gently reprimanded.

"But you talk and laugh with Aunt Delia and Aunt Natasha whenever the three of you eat." Casper frowned, his lips in a pout.

He couldn't understand why I was reprimanding him for the same habit I had with my best friends. There were two reasons why I'd shushed him. One, he was a child and could easily swallow food the wrong way. Two, it was our first night in this place, I didn't want them thinking I wasn't teaching my boys good manners, especially with Sayge watching.

I saw the laugh tweak his jaw. He obviously had found it funny.

He cleared his throat. "Clearly, you've been a hypocrite."

"Sayge." His father called, his tone calm for the boys' sake, but there was the sternness beneath.

"Dad, she..."

"Your son asked a question." Oslaz, in that same calm mann

CHAPTER 74ZYLIAH’S POV"Where are we driving to?" I asked once we were already on the road, far away from the Williams’ estate.I tried to forget the look on his face when I’d chosen Fynn. In my defense, he was beating up my boyfriend—what did he expect? That I support him, a stranger?Nope, that wasn’t going to happen. And I could also understand what Delia and Natalie must have thought of me by this time. But they would never truly understand."We'll drop by my dad's place first," he replied, smiling sweetly through his bruised face. Sayge had really roughened him up. I managed a small smile in return. “Okay.”Twenty minutes later, we drove into his father’s compound. It was just as I remembered it from a while ago."Hello, son. Zyliah.” He brightened immediately, looking even more excited to see me.We had just stepped into the living room when he opened his arms for a hug. I obliged, ignoring the slight throbbing at my temples."Let's go into my office,” he said, motioning for u

CHAPTER 73DELIA’S POV"That Fynn is a stupid thorn. An unruly, cocky bastard just like his father!” Natalie spat, strapping herself into the passenger seat. She was pissed—her voice alone made that obvious."He's in love with her," I said quietly, almost to myself, while driving out of the estate and onto the highway toward home."What?" She turned to me, pausing in her own display of righteous anger. "Sayge doesn't just like Zyliah. He loves her," I repeated. "Loves her?" she echoed back, as if trying to wrap her mind around what I'd just said. “I thought they hated each other, and all of this was supposed to be about bringing them together.”I threw her a sideways glance, eyebrows raised, before fixing my eyes back on the road and shaking my head. “And to think you’re in a relationship yourself—you should be able to point these things out.”She seemed to turn my words over in her head, lips moving like she might answer, then shutting again. “And Zyliah? Do you think she loves him

CHAPTER 72SAYGE’S POVThe door opened, and I was already set to lash out, but then I saw it was my grandmother. I suddenly felt exhausted instead, though the anger still pressed at the edges, ready to burst out if she dared to provoke me.I was spent. Emotionally and mentally. I hadn’t heard actions could ever drag this much weight into my chest, but somehow they did...and I hated every bit of it.She set down the tray she’d brought in, placing it firmly on the table."If you’re here to give me grief, Grandma, then hold it off for later,” I muttered tiredly, my voice already sounding drained."Why didn’t you tell me?" she asked, her tone flat as she took a seat.If she wasn’t my grandma, and one I still held in very high esteem, I’d have ordered her out of my room and told her to give me the space I needed, especially since our relationship had already been strained for more than a week now."Tell you what?" I asked, my tone clipped. She poured whiskey into a glass for me, set the bo

CHAPTER 71 ZYLIAH’S POV The pressure on my chest morphed from pain into a crescendo of pounding weight, sending a wave of desire to stream through every part of my body. But between my legs—oh, between my legs—the needy wetness pooling in between my thighs, the buttery weakness in my knees. It was a good thing I had my arms wrapped tightly around his neck. His tongue dominated, plunging deep into every corner of my mouth. His hands came round my waist, caressing my low back. "Oh... Zyliah," he groaned my name. That sound alone tore a moan from my throat. Here we stood in the middle of the day, on the patio, kissing like our very lives depended on every lick and nibble. In that moment, it felt as though we were the only ones in the world—the only ones that mattered. It was a long, breath-stealing time before we finally pulled apart, gasping heavily. He looked ruffled—his hair especially. Had I done that? I hadn’t even realized my fingers had tangled through his thick mane. H

CHAPTER 70 ZYLIAH’S POV It didn’t just resound—it stung, badly. My eyes watered as I held my burning cheek. Claire was just like my stepsister—Sabrina. “W-why did you do that?” "You're a leech. An inconvenience I never asked for. You’re taking my spot!” Tears rolled down. “I...I’m not even taking anything.” God, she was vicious. I hated people like that. "Not taking anything?" She jabbed a finger at me, her face twisted. “Then why didn’t you say no when Grandma Charlotte asked you to see her company? Why did you accept the flowers that were supposed to be mine?” She paced, her breath heaving. “Why did you accept the lunch invitation?!” With every question, her tone rose higher, climbing in furious crescendos. My head went blank. I didn’t even know how to respond, so I just stood there, feeling foolish as I rubbed my stinging cheek while battling tears. Claire hurled insults at me, calling me every derogatory name in her vocabulary—and there were many, all sharp and hurtful.

They stood frozen, watching as though they didn’t know what to do next."Go say hi, darlings," Grandma Charlotte coaxed gently, urging them toward me.But they clung to her dress, shaking their heads. "She doesn’t like us anymore," one of them whispered."She likes that man. She left us just to hug him," the second muttered, hurt thick in his voic
