“Elena, Sister Gemma asked me to call you.”
“Okay,” Elena replied, putting on her regular flip flops.
“She’s along the corridor.”
Elena nodded in reply, opening the door to leave. She had gotten in yesterday careful not to collide with any of the sisters. Her roommates were still up when she got in. They had all noticed the smile on her face and asked what happened. Even though she said nothing, she went to bed, her hands clutching her necklace, a half smile plastered on her face.
Luke didn’t wait for her, which was unusual.
And now that Sister Gemma had called for her so early in the morning, it was even more unusual.
“Good morning, Sister Gemma.”
“Elena, good morning,” she replied. “How are you?”
“I’m fine.”
In no time, Elena and Daniel got to school. Jordan had gotten there already before Daniel and was hovering all over Melanie. She seemed to enjoy the attention as she was also gushing over him.June and Ivy had arrived too, surprisingly together. June was obviously surprised that Elena was going on the trip and failed to hide her what seemed like disappointment from Elena. They got in and sat in the plane in pairs. June with Ivy, Elena with Daniel and Jordan, of course, with Melanie. Elena noticed the look Melanie gave her on seeing Daniel grab her hand, pulling her to sit with him. Elena met her eyes and she immediately flashed a fake smile turning her attention towards Jordan."Nervous?""Just a little bit," Elena shifted. "Okay, fine. I'm nervous."Daniel leaned forward, taking her hand in his. "It's your first time so you should be. There's no need to be though, it'll be
"Let's all go to a restaurant today.'' It was their third day at Ireland. Elena paid almost no attention to Ivy's suggestion as she was too busy searching for the laces to the sneakers she wore the previous day. She could swore she left them by her bed side but to her surprise they had disappeared. She dared not ask June for their whereabouts sure she was going to tease her. 'Are you sure you didn't leave it in Daniel's room?' That was probably what was going to say if she asked her. She groaned at the memory of her mysteriously falling asleep in Daniel's room. On his shoulders too. She couldn't be more glad June decided to come wake her up at 11:48pm. According to June, Daniel had also fallen asleep, his head rested on her head and instead of Jordan waking them up from their unplanned slumber immediately he got in, he stood at a corner of the room quietly watching them sleep. As if June's teas
“ELENAAA WAKE UPP!”Elena rolled over as she felt the duvet sheets dragged away from her, exposing her face to the sunlight penetrating the windows.“You’ve been sleeping since literally forever! The bus would be leaving in less than an hour, we’re going to the museum remember?!”“Oh, Ivy, good morning,” Elena drawled, sleepily.“Yeah good morning? You skipped breakfast already unknown to us you were here sleeping. Now get your lazy ass out of bed!” Ivy yelled, fixing the curtains.Okay, this was a different shade of Ivy.“I really overslept, eh?” Elena muttered.“Obviously,” Ivy rolled her eyes.“Where&rsqu
Elena was glad Luke decided to tag along. Not that she’d admit it or tell him anyways. She hadn’t even had the opportunity to tell him about Ireland cause he was too busy telling about things that happened while she was away. He told her his school, Amigo and everything that happened to him. The bus ride was short or long- whichever way, she didn’t notice cause they were too engrossed in their conversation. They alighted at the second to the last bus stop, according to Luke was a trekkable distance away from June’s apartment building. They got down, Luke’s arm protectively around Elena’s shoulders as they walked.“Are you sure we aren’t about to get lost?” Elena asked Luke for the hundredth time. Again, Luke ignored the question.“You know i’m just making sure we-”&ld
Elena slammed her locker with one hand, holding her books with the other. She headed to class, anticipating June’s arrival- they both had English class. She opened the door to her classroom, earning few eyes turning towards her. Her eyes immediately scanned the class, searching for June. The teacher wasn’t in class yet to her surprise.Time passed by slowly. The teacher said everything she had to say, more than half attracting a ‘true’ from Elena’s head. Her mind was constantly wavering. June wasn’t in class. She needed to see June. She needed to confront her and say what was on her mind. She needed to clear things. The bell finally rang, Elena immediately jumping out of her seat. She grabbed her books hastening , throwing them into her bag. She brought out her phone to text June.Elena: Where are you?She
Elena fiddled with the red shoe laces, trying to tie them into the exact bow they were tied up in when Daniel gave them to her. After series of failed attempts, she gave up, tying it up in a regular knot. He was right. The sneakers looked good on their uniform and even better with her complimenting it with knee high socks. She grabbed her backpack, rebuttoned her shirt to make her necklace less obvious and headed to school. In less than 25 minutes, she got to school immediately heading towards her locker. She inputted her locker combination, opening it to reveal two pictures. One of her and Luke and one of her and June. June. She looked around hoping to see in the hallways. Just as she hoped, June appeared right beside her."Hey girlll," June greeted, her voice filled with enthusiasm as usual. "Were you expecting me?"
Elena twirled, showing off her gown. It was a black sleeveless one with a flare from her lower bust to her knee. It had artificial flowers stitched all over the neckline with a black lacy belt sewn onto it. She had her hair tied up in a neat bun and had matching black flats on.Daniel was able to successfully sweet talk the sisters into allowing them go. Whatever or however he said it, they gave him their support and also developed a soft side for him."It's not a funeral, you know," Luke commented as he checked her out. "So much black.""Thanks for the compliment."Luke gesticulated with his fingers, making Elena roll her eyes. "Where's your purse? Girls carry purses around with them.""For what?""Duh," it was his turn to roll his eyes. "To keep their makeup, tissues and you know, girl stuff.""Well, that's why I have you," she s
"Luke-""Those people, are my parents," Luke said before Elena could say anything further.True."Your parents? Daniel's parents are your parents?" Elena asked, confusion evident in her voice."Yes," he laughed, covering his eyes with his hands. "My parents weren't dead when I got to Amigo. They didn't give me up for adoption either, I ran away from home myself."True.Elena simply took his hands into hers, giving it a light squeeze."They were always extreme workaholics," Luke continued. "Sometimes I wondered why they decided to have children when they weren't ready to have our time. I barely spent enough time with my family when I was growing up. My elder and younger brother were both in a boarding school faraway. I wondered my they didn't just send me to the boarding school too instead of leaving me with an army of strange
