Chapter 29: mommy 1

Ann was still in a bad mood. That devil had made my baby's mood swing. Shit. I needed to fix it ASAP.

I knew words of reassurance weren't enough, so for the first time since secondary school, I sought help from my mom. I drove home the next day, forgetting gifts entirely. I didn't even know how to start the conversation. I felt like I'd stress her, or inconvenience her. Honestly, I was uncomfortable asking for help, but it was my only choice. Nancy was a threat she definitely wouldn't stop.

Apparently, there was no need for gifts. My dad was on a business trip, my sister on a school excursion, and my mom was home with the maids. Thank God she didn't play mahjong like other middle-aged women in China, but she was always on shopping sprees, mini vacations, or at her weekly spa appointments. My mom was a chiller. No that woman was living the life.

She wasn't even home when I arrived. The butler said she'd gone to the nearest city to get a plant.

Me: "A plant? Is Mommy a florist now?" I asked in shock

Butler: "No, young master. She doesn't deal with flowers."

Me: "Then why is she getting a plant?"

Butler: "I don't know the specifics, but I heard her tell Her friend over the phone that there's an auction for a plant that turns any skin type to that of a baby's. She's going to get it."

Me: "Did she go with any bodyguards?"

Butler: "Yes, young master. Madam knows she's wrong for traveling without informing you or the master in advance, so she took extra precautions this time. She even brought the family doctor in case of emergency."

Me: "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy..." I shook my head gently.

Butler: "Young master should not be angry. Madam knows she's wrong."

I left him and went straight to my room to shower. I had consultations with three companies, so I hopped online, waiting for her to return.

A few hours later, the butler announced dinner was ready, asking if I'd eat in my room or in the dining hall. Eating alone in that big hall sounded boring, so I opted for my room, and he brought the food up.

I didn't want to sleep over, Ann would be home alone for the first time, and I hadn't told her in advance that I will be sleeping out . I also didn't want to go home without a solution, or leave Ann sad with no one to talk to. So I called her. It rang a few times before she picked up.

Me: "Good evening, my princess."

Ann: (Still moody) "Good evening."

Me: "How are you feeling?"

Ann: "I'm okay." She lied.

Me: (Playing along because I didn't know how to console her without a solution) "That's good."

Ann: "What's up? How about you?"

Me: "Well, I'm still doing some work. Had a few consultations started but haven't finished."

Ann: "Make sure you take care of yourself. Don't overstress."

Me: "Thanks, my love. I'll keep that in mind. So, I had to rush home to settle something, but when I got here, I found out my mom ran off to a nearby city to play. My dad's not around, so I have to make sure she's safe. I was thinking... should I come pick you up so we could sleep over here? What do you think?"

Ann: "Baby, sleep over at your parents' house? That doesn't make sense, especially since they don't know me yet. I mean, I don't know them, either."

Me: "Baby, that's not a problem. My family will welcome you with open arms."

Ann: "I insist on not coming for now."

Me: "Okay, that's fine. How about I take you to Hamida's for a girls' night?"
