LOGINChapter 3: The Wedding
I got back to my room around 4:30 a.m. after a long night outside, climbed into bed, and dozed off. I woke up the next morning just before ten.
The second semester of my second year was coming to an end, so there were few to no lectures for at least two weeks. I didn't want to face Mike that day, feeling a little guilty about what had happened between Ann and me. My other guys were in the city enjoying life, so I was alone. I decided to go to the city park, the museum, and the archive. But first, I started my day at the gym.
I was weightlifting when I saw my beautiful hijab girl with a gym instructor guiding her; it seemed to be her first time. As I exercised, I observed her. I didn't want to approach her just yet , she looked serious, and her instructor was there. When I went to get drinking water and returned, she was already driving away. I seemed to have bad luck when it came to this girl. I went back inside, finished my training, and returned to my room.
After a shower, I headed straight to the city park. The place was quite far, so I decided to drive. It had been ages since I'd used the car; I was mostly on or around campus, and even the mall was within walking distance. I grabbed some snacks on my way out, got in my car, and zoomed off.
My stay at the park was short. It was mostly empty. No kids playing, no older people taking the air. Maybe because it was a weekday, the place felt eerie, so I headed to the museum.
I saw her again, the girl in the hijab, with her family. Something in me really wanted to meet her, but it didn't feel like the right time. She was having family time, and I shouldn't intrude. So I just followed them at a distance. Would you believe they didn't separate the entire time? Their tour ended, and they left together, happily. I lost my motivation again and headed home.
I missed her. I hadn't gotten to talk to her, and I'd lost my vibe for the day.
It was better to go back to the family house in town because my favorite aunt's wedding was the next day. The bride was my mom’s cousin but they call themselves sisters. I drove back to my room, packed a few things, and headed home. It had been a long time since I'd seen my family, and seeing the hijab girl had made me miss home. On the way, I stopped at a store to get my little sister a box of Cadbury Roses chocolates and bought each of my parents a set of perfume. I got home around seven in the evening, and my mom made pizza for dinner.
I greeted my parents and went upstairs to change. When my kid sister saw me, she was so excited she clung to me like I was her lost treasure. During dinner, I gave my family their gifts, had a little family time in the living room, and went to bed early. The next day was going to be very long.
I woke up early the next morning, as did the whole house. We had to get ready quickly to attend my aunt's wedding ceremony and reception. The first event started at nine in the morning during the service. After the priest officiated the marriage, we headed to the reception.
It was held in a garden at the end of the city, not too far from our family house. The venue was beautifully decorated in pink and white, matching the bride's outfit, a white ball gown, a bridal veil, and pink roses. We entered and sat close to where the newlyweds were seated. Then I looked ahead and saw the hijab girl with her parents, the same people I'd seen at the museum, though her brother was missing. She wore a pink hijab, a pink gown, and Toms shoes. I could see her full outfit because she was sitting in the front row; I had a perfect view that day. I should have gone to meet her then, but that was when the wedding officially began, and the bride walked down the aisle with my grandfather.
While the wedding was going on, I saw her leave. I thought she was going to the restroom, but moments later, her parents left too. Even when the wedding ended, they hadn't returned. That was when I realized they'd left halfway through. I was sad again. Why do I keep missing the chance to talk to her?
But I had to keep my cool. It was my favorite aunt's big day. After the event, the bride and groom went to their new home, and we returned to the family house. I stayed over the weekend and then went back to school for my second year final exams.
Since returning, I still hadn't met Mike. I'd blocked him on all socials so he couldn't reach me.
It was over a month after I'd come back from home. Our exams were concluded, and our results were coming out that day. I was in my room watching a movie when I heard the results had been posted in the dorm. I rushed to check if I'd failed any courses. I saw Mike's first. Proud of him, he'd passed with distinction. I saw mine too; I was ranked directly above him. Thank God I hadn't failed. Not that I ever did, I'd just become unmotivated lately.
On my way back to my room to pack my luggage and leave for vacation, Mike and the guys asked me out to play games, but I declined. I told them I wasn't in the mood. I think at that point, Mike knew I was avoiding him.
I entered my room, grabbed my bags, and headed straight to the airport. I'd already booked my flight ticket. I was going to Cyprus to unwind.
Mom: "What?"Me: "Mom, where are you going dressed like that?"Mom: "To the spa." She eyed me.Me: "Dressed like that?"Mom: "Well, I'll change at the spa. I have a better outfit."Me: "Wait better outfit? Better than this one?"Mom: "Yeah, it's finer. Classier. I imported it from Paris. I was saving it for the president's wives' meeting, but it came in handy earlier than expected."Me: "Then why are you so overdressed if you're just going to change?"Mom: "Because today is a good day. Plus, I'm going shopping."Me: "Sho... shopping with who?"Mom: "With you, of course. Am I going to see Ann empty-handed? Besides, you call this overdressed? Wait till you see what I'll wear to meet my daughter-in-law." She smiled slyly.Me: "Hey, hey, hey, Mom. Enough. You look like you're going to dine with presidents of 19 different countries."Mom: "Mm-hmm. I know. That was the original purpose of this dress."Me: "Mom, you don't need to be extra. It's just Ann."Mom: "What do you mean, 'just Ann'?
Mom: "Well, yes. Skincare? Check. Undies? Check. Nighties? Check. Dinner outfits? Check. Coats? Check. Perfumes? Check. Abayas? Check. Shoes? Check. Jewelry? Check. Okay, I think I'm good to go."Me: "So what now?"Mom: "Let me quickly take my bath, grab some food, and then we move."Me: "Mom, I'm really worried about you. How about one of the chefs moves to my house? Or Uncle Su?"Mom: "You're forgetting I can cook. We'll survive. And stop making it sound like we're climbing a mountain full of lions and tigers to set up a tent for a month."Me: "I didn't mean that. I'm sorry. I was just looking out for you."Mom: "I know." She murmured and walked away. "He nags too much, just like his father."Me: I followed her. "Wait, did you just call me and Dad"Mom: She slammed the bathroom door in my face.Me: I got a little annoyed and walked away.I rushed downstairs to talk to the butler.Me: "Uncle Su! Uncle Su!"Uncle Su: "Good day, young master. Hope you slept well?"Me: "Yeah, I did. Ple
Me: "Oh, okay. So you don't mind?"Ann: "Mind? Why would I mind? I mean, she's your mom... my man's mom."Me: I was speechless.Ann: "So tell me, what do you call her? Mommy? Mom?"Me: "Well, I call her Mom when it's serious. Princess on normal days. And Mommy when I want something."Ann: She laughed. "Y'all must have a really good relationship."Me: "Yeah. You'll get used to her easily. I mean, your bestie Hamida is just like her."Ann: She sounded surprised. "Oh, really? I can't wait to meet her, then."Me: "We might come later today. I'll confirm the exact time after I talk to her. She's going to the spa first."Ann: "That's fine. Tell me what she likes so I can cook for her. I'll make arrangements for everything else."Me: "Nah, I've already taken care of it. I told the cleaner to move into the guest room. My mom will take your room, and you and I will stay together. I also rented the apartment next door for three months my mom's bodyguards will stay there. You know I can't let he
Mom: "The Shengan family does not need to stoop that low to survive. We've stood independently by the power of God and the business talent of the heirs in this family. There is great gravity in false accusation and defamation of character. I don't care how casual she thinks it is." She fumed as she emphasized every word fiercely Me: "Hey, hey, hey. Princess, calm down."Mom: She snapped at me. "How can you tell me to calm down when there's an imposter trying to cause internal conflict in a harmonious family?" She eyed me. "Calm down, fire!" She stormed out of the room.Me: "Where are you going?" I chased after her Mom: "I'm going to the living room to clear my head."Me: "Princess." I called calmly and She turned to look at me. "Please come into your room and sit down. I want to talk to you."Mom: "I don't care who she is. She has no right." She stood there and said angrily.Me: "Yeah, I know. Please sit, okay?"Mom: She stood for a moment, then came into the room and sat.Me: "I'm
Mom: She put her head down apologetically. "Raun, I've wronged you, your dad, and everyone in this household. I just play and don't care about anything else while you all work hard to afford whatever I want. I go shopping, to car launches, jewelry reveals anywhere in the world. I even join the public using regular airplanes without any escort. Sometimes I sit in economy just to blend in." She sniffled. "From today onward, not just the special guards.I'll even take the regular bodyguards when I go out. Enough manpower to protect me. I'll stop going to random places. I promise you, son. I'll try not to make you and your dad worry about work and worry about me at the same time."Me: "That's our big princess." I went to hug her.Mom: "You and your dad spoil me too much." She smiled admist her tears. Me: "But you're just a girlll." I imitated the way she talked and ran away.Mom: She threw a pillow at me. "Are you mocking me?"Me: "No, no, no. Who, me?"We both burst into laughter. Then I
Me: "So all this was for an island?"Mom: "What do you mean 'all this'? Like I'm doing something sinful?"Me: "No, I meant the stress of going to buy the flower yourself."Mom: "Well, not really. Your dad works hard, so I should give him good sex once in a while, you know?" She smiled mischievously.Me: "That's thoughtful of you."Mom: "Of course. I'm always a thoughtful person."Me: "So where exactly is this island located?"Mom: "Well, it's a small island surrounded by water. I passed by there last time I went to Dubai to buy some abayas and perfumes. The island isn't far from Abu Dhabi. It's calm. The serenity is beautiful. It's peaceful. There are speedboats you can play with in the water. There are also little buildings,a museum, an aquarium, a beauty spa for me and my little Angel , and a fully equipped gym apart from the mansion. The place is like a small world."Me: "Wow, you've done your research."Mom: "Yeah, I did. They say the owner is about to die and has no offspring or
