(EDMOND'S POV)

“Something is weird about Anthony.” Kael says.

“Something is always weird about that man.” I shrug.

“Nothing is new.” I add, pulling into the parking lot of my favorite cafe.

“This one is well different from his usual self.” Kael says.

“Well, get right into it. Or do you want me to fucking propose to you?”

“You can keep the proposal for Adrian. I’m fine like this.”

“The usual.” I mutter to the lady at the counter, sliding a hundred dollar bill across the counter.

Her face blooms

  • Cast Away By My Family; I Married The Ruthless Tycoon    Another Angle

(RIA'S POV)My eyes open to find another pair of eyes close to my face staring at me without blinking. Is this an apocalypse? Did i die from my sleep and get transmigrated into a fantasy world? The eyes seem to be shining at me. Bright and clear but doing nothing. Just there.A voice pierces through my muddled brain.“Whittaker”“Aaahhhhhhh!!!!”The scream that leaves my lips is unlike anything i can control.I am so certain that I am in an apocalyptic world.Would that be the system?I peek through open gaps within my fingers.“Edmond?”"Who else lives here?"I blink, rising up slowly,"You scared me half to death.""You were sleeping in the middle of my living room. What did you expect, a lullaby?" His voice coldly strips away any sense of sleep remaining in my eyes.I glance around the room, my eyes falling on the plates that once held bacon and eggs, not completely cleared and stacked high on the table.A blush rises up to my cheeks.I bite it away instantly."What time is it?""

  • Cast Away By My Family; I Married The Ruthless Tycoon    Do you deserve a honeymoon?

(EDMOND’S POV)I want to know what’s she is thinking about.I want to know what is running through that mind of hers. With a face framed so small, a mouth that barely speaks and eyes that dart everywhere but me, I will do anything right now to know what is in her mind.Even though she’s not worth it.No descendant of Mark Whittaker is worth special energy. A man with a brain like that will only produce kids like him.Once I have what I want, I’m tossing their daughter far away from me. As far as possible, as fast as I can.Her mouth opens, then closes. I watch her struggle to regroup her thoughts, her chin lifting a fraction. After what feels like a lifetime, she lifts her head and stares at me."Fine. You saw everything. So you know I tried every door."I shrug, "I know you tried every door, every window, and the keypad four separate times using what I assume was your birthday, my name, and something that looked suspiciously like the word love spelled with numbers.""That was not w

  • Cast Away By My Family; I Married The Ruthless Tycoon    Who else lives here?

(EDMOND’S POV)My phone buzzes for the ninth time in an hour.IGOR: Clip 9 attached.I play the video only to see the Whittaker girl yanking on the front door handle like it insulted her personally. The next clip shows her raiding my refrigerator, flipping bacon like it owes her money, jumping back with a yelp when the grease pops and insulting me loudly. The clip after that shows her ramming into the windows, trying to break them, only to end up wincing when nothing happens. So, she really wants to escape. She must be wrecked about failing in her escape yesterday. And even though I warned her, she hasn’t given up yet. I’m actually surprised about that.I’d expect that the Whittaker kids are like their father. Running to the corner with their tails tucked in between their legs when something goes wrong.Does she even know the type of contract her parents signed?A laugh nearly escapes me.I quickly turn it into a cough."Sir?" Toby pauses mid sentence.I throw him an annoyed look, cl

  • Cast Away By My Family; I Married The Ruthless Tycoon    I will run away when I wake up, I promise

I slump against the wall beside the kitchen door, sliding down until I'm sitting on the cold tile, my grand escape plan lasting a total of eleven minutes. My stomach growls.I ignore it, my eyes stuck on the door that has refused to budge. At least, now I know I’d suck at treason if I was born in a previous century.I bang my head softly against the wall and stare up at the ceiling. This is humiliating.I am a Masters graduate. I understand nanotechnology well enough to have written a thesis on it. But I cannot figure out how to leave a frigding mansion because I was too stubborn to blink away sleep and run away in the dead of the night. My stomach growls again, louder this time and more insistent.I place my right palm on my abdomen, rubbing it.The cake I ate at the wedding must have finished it’s digestion cycle.I am hungry.I am trying to plan an escape on an empty stomach and even less sleepShould that explain why my first attempt involved zero actual result?I need to think

  • Cast Away By My Family; I Married The Ruthless Tycoon    Curse that comfortable bed!

The water in the shower runs hotter than I expect, hot enough to sting and I let it anyway, standing under it until my skin turns pink and my fingers wrinkle at the tips.Just the way I like it.I scrub yesterday off my body. The perfume the stylist sprayed on me without asking. The hairspray still clinging stubbornly behind my ears. The lingering smell of white flowers I never picked.By the time I step out, I almost feel like me again.I dry my hair with a towel from a shelf stacked embarrassingly high with towels, more towels than one person could use in a lifetime, and walk back into the closet that isn't mine.Without looking at the row of unending silk and dresses expensive enough to buy a car, I pick the plainest things I can find.Dark jeans, a soft grey sweater, sneakers instead of the heels lined up like soldiers waiting for war.If I'm going to do what I'm planning to do, I need to be able to run.I towel dry my hair one more time and catch sight of myself in the mirr

  • Cast Away By My Family; I Married The Ruthless Tycoon    I know I'm a spare part

I wrap my arms around myself, my bare skin prickling in the too cool air of the room, and my eyes catch the closet door Edmond revealed yesterday morning when he thought there was an intruder in my room. Was that only yesterday? It feels like I have gone through several lifetimes already.I walk toward it on unsteady feet and pull it open, and I am greeted with racks and racks of clothes I don't recognize as mine.Someone dressed this closet for a wife they had never met.Me.I trail my fingers along different fabric.Silk.Cashmere. Rows of shoes still wrapped in tissue paper, a shelf of handbags with their authentication cards still tucked inside the pockets, everything untouched, everything waiting.None of it makes me feel one bit richer. This is all for Racquel.I do not wear silk.Or cashmere.I had to be grateful to have enough winter coats when winter came whether they were Racquel’s hand-me-downs or something Rachel decided she didn’t want anymore.Knowing all these was pr
