LOGINEVA:
"Cruz, is this what you want? To break up with me because of your slut of a sister?" Maddison shrieked, but Cruz stood unfazed. "Yes. Your brother got kicked out by your parents because of his bad boy lifestyle in college, and you accommodated him. Why can't you accommodate my own sister?" Cruz asked, his tone sharp, and Maddison fumbled to find words. "You cannot compare my brother to your sister. Noah's issues are different. Fine, if Eva stays, I don't want to see her anywhere around the company. She is fired!" Maddison declared and turned to go back upstairs, and my brother sighed and turned to face me. "Come on, Eva, let me show you to the guest room. Tomorrow, I will accompany you to go and see Mom and Dad when they must have calmed down," Cruz spoke softly, and I stood there worriedly. "Brother, I don't want you and your wife to be having marital issues because of me," I spoke calmly, but Cruz smiled. "Don't worry. I will talk to Maddi," he replied calmly, while I watched Noah sit on the couch, but his eyes were on me. "Come on," Cruz led me to the guest room, and I marveled as the guest room was bigger than my room at home. "Wow! Brother, this room is lovely. Are you sure that you and your wife won't quarrel again because of me?" I asked, my voice filled with concern, but Cruz shook his head. "Don't worry about Maddison. What would you like to eat, or have you eaten?" He asked, and my stomach growled in hunger at his inquiry. "It's fine. I will send for your meal," Cruz said as he turned and walked out of the room. Sighing, I moved over to the white couch in the room to sit down. My phone rang, and it was my older sister, Elora, calling me. We weren't so close, especially since she had tried to secretly date Jacob Stone, but he didn't spare her a glance and he reported to me what she did. Since then, our relationship has been strained. "Hello, Sister," I said, my voice calm, and Elora's sharp voice resonated in my ear, "Eva, how can you cheat on Jacob? I thought that you said you love him very much and you won't cheat on him?" "It was a mistake. It wasn't intentional," I said, for the umpteenth time, and Elora scoffed. "What will you have said before? That you didn't willingly cheat on Jacob. Eva, your wedding with Jacob was just three months away, and yet you cheated. I am ashamed of you. Do you know that Jacob has called off the engagement and ordered us to pay him 15 million? Where do you want us to get that money from?" "I am not going to pay Jacob. I didn't cheat on him willingly. So I am not the one to be blamed," I said firmly, but Elora snapped. "Shut up, Eva. If you hadn't captured Jacob's attention before I did. I was the one who invited you to the Elites club five years ago, and you snatched Jacob before I could even say hi to him," Elora ranted, and I sighed. I knew that my sister wanted Jacob to date her, but he didn't like her. He came to meet me instead. "Sister, I don't want to talk about this. I will visit Jacob and try to negotiate with him. You don't have to worry about paying him," I said, my voice calm, but Elora yelled, "How about Dad's company? He lost a lot of clients because he couldn't fund the loan. You need to beg Jacob to take you back. You better go and look for him and beg him." Elora ended the call, and I sighed heavily. (Knock, knock.) The sound of someone knocking startled me, and I moved over to the door to find out who was there. When I pulled the door open, I met a young woman standing there like a maid. Her hands holding a tray of food. "Hi, I brought your dinner," she said, and I saw Noah walk past her as he went to the next door after mine. "Alright. Thank you," I replied before collecting the tray and going back into my room. I locked the door and went to set the meal on the table, before sitting down to eat the delicious jollof rice and fried chicken. The delicious taste soothed my body and calmed my mind. After finishing the food, I drank from the bottle of water before my mind wandered off to Ethan Owen. I pulled my bag, brought out the card that Ethan had given me. He was offering me a job at his company for 2 million, while Maddison had already sacked me from her Tech company. Even though I'm a software developer, I decided to accept working for Ethan as his secretary. After all, the pay is relatively high, and now that I needed to repay Jacob, I knew that I could only rely on Ethan's 2 million secretary job. So I called the number on the card, my hand trembling as I heard the call ringing. "Who was going to pick up? Was it Ethan's assistant or customer care?" I pondered, as the card had "Owen's Group CEO" printed on it. [Name - Ethan Owen.] [Number - 080***5**00] The call rang, and there was no response. Trying again, I sat with unease as I called the number once more. A knock on my door startled me, but I was eager to wait for Ethan's call. Unfortunately, Ethan didn't answer me. And I sighed and moved over to the door to see who was there. Pulling the door open, I caught Noah standing there. "What do you want?" I asked him coldly, and he smiled at me. "I'm sorry to bother you, but I just wanted to know how you're doing and if we can be friends," Noah said, his brown eyes glinting with interest as he peered at my face. Noah was taller than me, and he had a well-built body, but he was my age-mate as I was a 25-year-old woman. Shaking my head, I replied to him with a stern voice. "No, we cannot be friends. Because your sister just accused me some minutes ago that I would sleep with you. So I cannot be close to you. Stay away from me and focus on your life." I turned to go back, but Noah stopped me, "Wait, it's not like you're a kid, or I am. My sister doesn't have the right to control me. I honestly want to be your friend." "Well, I'm sorry, I don't need your friendship. My best friend betrayed me. And I cannot blindly trust a new friend, whether male or female. I want to be alone at the moment. So shoo away." I walked back into the room and slammed my door in Noah's face. Exhaling, the sound of my phone ringing caught my attention, and I moved over to the table to grasp it quickly before the call ended. I was taken aback to see that Ethan was the one calling me back. My hands trembled as I sat on the chair and answered the call.EVA'S POV:When I rang the doorbell, my mother came over and pulled the door to unlock it for me from within."Eva, you are back," Mom said, her lips curled up in a smile as she stepped back for me to enter the living room."Yes, Mom. I am back. Good evening," I greeted her, as the smell of fried plantains and fish stew wafted through my nostrils while I walked into the room."Mom, didn't you go to work today?" I asked her, turning to face her as my tummy growled loudly in hunger. My mother was a great chef, and so she prioritized the cooking herself.Smiling, Mom shut the door and turned to face me. She wore a short blue dress that clung to her skin like a second skin. "I did," her voice came out like a gentle caress in my ear. "But I came back home early. Your Dad is back too. We wanted to discuss something with you."My mind raced, wondering if it was about the money from Ethan's Dad.After my mother finished speaking, the sound of my Dad's footsteps striding into the living room a
EVA'S POV:Lily and I stepped out of the elevator with the rest of the staff, and she walked up beside me and said, "I understand, Eva. I just want us to be friends.""I know. Fine. Since you want us to be friends, let's go," I replied, knowing it was not bad to accept a friendly gesture. After all, Lily had been kind to me.Lily giggled and said, "Of course."However, my phone rang, and it was an incoming call from Layla. I declined her call, as I could not believe that she would have the audacity to call me after setting me up."Eva, is anything the matter?" Lily asked, noticing the change in my demeanor when she saw me stop in my tracks."Yes, I'm fine. It's just an old friend of mine who betrayed me, and I'm not ready to talk to her at the moment," I replied, my tone cold, as I swiftly blocked Layla's contact.I had forgotten to block her, being carried away by my new job and sealing a secret deal with the Johnson Group."Oh, you mean the one who set you up at the Owen Hotel? I h
EVA:When I settled into my office chair, I brought out my laptop and began working on the project that I had in mind to present to the Johnson’s group. My mind replayed my encounter with Ethan in his car. His closeness. His confession to having my nude on his phone. How dare he keep such intimate videos of me. Though I had a vague memory, the thought that he had such videos of me made me uncomfortable.“Do not think too much about it, Eva. Maybe Ethan is right. He is a billionaire and he wouldn’t want anyone to blackmail him for his mistakes with me. After all, he has a fiancée,” I mumbled under my breath. My mood improved as I began creating a new app for the Johnson’s group. Just then, the sound of someone knocking on my transparent door startled me.When I raised my head to see who it was, I was surprised to see a tall man, wearing a blue shirt and black trousers, with a pair of polished black shoes, stride into my office.“Hi, you must be Ethan’s new secretary, right?” he asked,
ETHAN:The car ride was silent as Pete drove ahead to my house inside White Estate. My head throbbed with thoughts of Eva, and I needed to take a break from the office to think clearly. Did I make a mistake asking Eva to work for me? Should I not have employed her? When Pete arrived at my mansion, he waited for security to unlock the gate before driving into my residence and parking. “Sir, about the partners from the Johnson group—should I deliver the document to you here or keep it at the company?” Pete asked respectfully as I unfastened my seatbelt to step out of the car. “Take it to the company and keep it there. I will handle everything tomorrow,” I replied calmly. “Alright, sir. Will you be needing anything?” Pete inquired as I unlocked the door to get out. “No. You can return to the company. I will be fine.” I strode ahead toward my mansion, and my phone rang. When I pulled it out of my trousers pocket, I saw it was Freya calling. My brows furrowed, but I answe
(Eva's POV) "What? Eva, three months is too much. Please, let's restart our relationship and get married next month," Jacob begged, but I refused. "No. I do not want next month. The matter is still fresh, so I need it to fade away and calm down. Three months is better. If you cannot wait until then, you can move on. I am not stopping you. I believe three months is enough for a wound to heal," I replied firmly, and Jacob sighed. "Alright. I will be patient," he said. "Okay, take care," I replied and wanted to end the call, but Jacob's deep voice reverberated through the speaker, "Eva, I wanted to ask you if you have ever tried to ask Ethan for the CCTV video of that night—at least to know who the man was that you slept with." "No. I cannot ask my boss," I swiftly declined. My heart slammed hard against my chest as it felt like the walls were pressing in on me. "Why? Ethan is the owner of Owen's Hotel, so he will have access to it. Unless you want me to believe that Ethan is the ma
(Eva's POV)"Um, sir. I want to ask about my nude video that you have on your phone," I asked him, and he laughed aloud firmly. His face relaxed a bit as he smirked."Why are you asking me about it? I thought you do not have any memory of the night? Are you now aware of what you did to me?" Ethan inquired, drawing next to me in the back seat of the car, and my heart raced with a wave of anxiety."I do not remember. Sir, I want you to delete the video of me if you still have it stored. It is against the law to keep my nude with you," I said coldly, and he smiled handsomely."Eva, I had no idea that you are already an attorney to be fully knowledgeable of the law. Since you do not remember taking advantage of me, it is best that you do not bring up this conversation. I am not in the mood to talk about it," Ethan brushed off the topic as if it was not something serious. But I demanded an answer."Mr. Owen, I am not done with my request. If you claim that you do have a video of me on your
