Chapter 3
Kieran's POV
"Remind me again why I need to see a rogue?" I asked Caleb, my Beta, my voice sounding tired from being in a meeting all day combined with my Lycan’s restlessness.
“Because you're the Alpha and we need you to decide what to do with her."
"What's there to decide? She's a rogue. Did she talk?” I asked.
He shook his head. “Not a word. Ryder suggested waiting for you. She was in a bad state when we brought her in.”
I nodded and followed him towards the dungeon. A rogue entering our land wasn't a new thing. But over the last few years after I became Alpha, their attack became less frequent and I wanted to keep it like that.
As a pack, we took pride in making sure that our members were safe at all times.
“Let's get this over with." I thought. Dealing with rogues was definitely my least favorite part of the day.
As I approached the cell, my Lycan grew even more restless. He began to jump and dance around my head in excitement.
"Mate, mate, mate!" he chanted, his voice a low, urgent whisper.
I froze, we didn't have a mate. “Calm down, King." I said to my Lycan. “Should I remind you what happened the last time we smelled her?"
I felt him roll his eyes, “it was one time. But this time around, I'm sure she's the one."
"What's going on? Is something wrong?” Caleb asked, noticing the sudden change in my countenance. I ignored him as I hastened my pace. But he followed closely behind me.
Over the years, I've accepted the fact that I didn't have a mate, having visited several packs to search for her to no avail. It could only mean that the moon goddess was punishing me for something I probably did.
“Mate! Mate needs us." King said, a sense of urgency in his tone which was rare. We always had things under control.
His tone did nothing to calm me. Instead, I felt a jolt of concern, my mind racing with possibilities. What had happened to our mate? Who had hurt her?
And then, I saw her.
She was sitting in the corner of the cell, her eyes fixed on the floor. She was barely clothed, with only a thin layer of underwear. Her arms wrapped around herself.
King let out a low, rumbling growl, his anger and concern evident. I felt a surge of protectiveness, my instincts screaming at me to defend my mate.
I took a step forward, my eyes locked on hers. She looked up, her gaze meeting mine, and I felt a jolt of recognition.
“Mate." Her wolf mumbled, sounding weak and my Lycan was ready to snap the neck of whoever put hands on her.
"Where the fuck are her clothes?” I growled, my voice coming out low and menacing. I struggled to keep my Lycan from coming out. The last thing I wanted in this situation was to scare my mate.
“They didn't know that–”
"Don't fuck with me, Beta." King snarled, forcing his way to the surface.
“I'll have them kept in the dungeon. You take care of her.” He said, showing his neck in submission. If he wasn't concerned about my mate, we would be addressing how he spoke to us. But he was right, no one but us should be looking at her.
I nodded and he left. I turned to face my mate, who had not moved an inch.
“She's cold, idiot." King said, snapping me out of my daze.
Even as tired as she looked, she was stunning. Her curly hair was put in a bun, giving me a clear view of face. She has piercing green eyes that reminds me of the forest…of home.
Taking off my shirt, I draped it around her and I felt her shiver lightly when my hand touched her skin. And fuck if she didn't look good in them.
She barely weighed anything when I carried her in my arms up the stairs. I had so many questions, but none of them mattered at the moment.
“What's your name?" I finally asked.
We were in my room, I laid her on the bed while I knelt beside her. I already mind-linked the pack doctor to meet us here and also for the head cook to make something for her.
“Kaia." She replied, not taking her eyes off me. That pleased, she was my equal and would be treated as one.
“My name is Kieran Blackwell, but you can call me Kieran."
“What is this? A job interview? You should let me take charge now, you're embarrassing us." King mocked.
“Shut up."
I gave up on ever finding a mate the moment I turned twenty-one and that was a year ago. I focused on my duty as an Alpha and the only people I had to deal with were the elders and other Alphas. And she looks so fragile.
“I’ve asked the pack’s doctor to come take a look at you. Is there anything you need before he gets here?” She shook her head.
Nodding softly, I made my way to my wardrobe to pick a shirt for myself since I gave her mine.
“She is looking at that! Let me out!" King growled, but I blocked him out. Not before a pleased look appeared on my face.
"Did she like what she was seeing?”
It didn't take long for the doctor to arrive with Caleb and Ryder coming in after him.
The doctor got to work, checking for any sign of external injury and everything else that needed to be checked. She was a little underweight and apart from the visible bruise on her wrist and a few scratches, there was nothing several nights of rest wouldn't fix.
It was difficult knowing what actually happened because she wouldn't respond to any question. King was pacing around in my head, desperate to be let out.
She soon fell asleep after taking a few spoons of the food that was prepared for her.
“Did you find out anything about her?" I asked.
"Nothing yet, but we'll keep digging.” Caleb assured me.
“And we have those men in the dungeon, do you want to see them now?" Ryder asked. My head turned to Kaia, who was sleeping soundly.
“I'll take care of that later."
I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I had a mate who was sleeping in my bed. They both left with plans to come back later.
Kaia…even her name sounds perfect, slept for more than half of the day only waking up for water. Within that time, king and I came up with multiple scenarios that might have led her to become a rogue.
I blocked out everyone trying to mind-link me…mainly my mom. I was certain my Gamma, Ryder had spoken to her. But that was an issue for later.
“You're up. How do you feel?" I asked, when my mate finally woke up.
"I'm okay.”
King was right, I was embarrassing.
"You know who I am right?" I asked again, breaking the silence that filled the room. Her wolf did recognize us but I've barely felt her since then.
She looked away.
“I'm your mate." I told her as softly as I could, with a smile on my face. I wanted to be sure she had an idea what that meant. But her next sentence confirmed that she knew exactly what I was talking about.
“Since you're going to reject me, just do it already.”
This time, I couldn't stop King from taking over.
Chapter 168 Aiden's POV The stack of paperwork on my table keeps multiplying but that wasn't important at the moment. My plan to get what I want was coming together nicely and it was only a matter of time before I put it into action. “Alpha," Derek, my Gamma called, opening the door. He had another paper and I was close to cursing him if it was another paperwork. "The Elders want to see you.” He said instead, and I'd prefer the paperwork. Whatever the Elders want couldn't be any good news and I didn't want to deal with them. “Did the letter say why?" He shook his head, "it didn't, but I think it has to do with members leaving the pack…about twenty of them left last week and some of them are beginning to protest about resources being low amongst other things.” "Are you telling me I'm not doing my job properly,” I asked and watched as his eyes widened to almost the size of a sauce. "N-no Alpha, I-I'm s-sorry, I didn't mean it like that.” He apologized, his voice b
Chapter 167 Caleb's POV The past few days have been amazing. I got to spend time with my mom and it was the best thing…it was just like it used to be when I was younger. And with Kaia's powers, she was stronger and even insisted on doing things herself despite our refusal. “Come try this." Mom said, putting a slice of cake in front of me and in front of Kaia as well. She also gave each of the guys their own, a proud smile appeared on their faces. “Oh my gosh!" Kaia exclaimed, her mouth full. “You were right, this is the best cake I've eaten all my life…even the twins agree.” She said, rubbing her stomach. Of course it was! We used to spend most of the time in the kitchen. The picture was still so clear in my head. I had been so convinced I hated her, but I missed her more than I thought I hated her. “I think I just had a cakegasm…if that is a word.” Allie said, moaning as she took another bite of her cake. Her action caused Ryder to pause and look at Kieran, whose
Chapter 166Kieran's POV The joy on Kaia's face when her mom finally woke up was the best thing. At first, I had been worried that her body wasn't going to be able to handle it but it did and I couldn't be more relieved. She was over the moon and so was Caleb, who tried to hide it but failed miserably. As much as he claimed that he hated her after she left, a part of me knew that what he hated more was the fact that she didn't take him along. But I was glad that that was over now. I watched as she slept peacefully, it has been a long day and it was going to be an even longer night once the ceremony to introduce her to the Pack started. So, she needed all the rest she could get. Looking around the Pack earlier, when I gave them space to talk to Lisa, the members couldn't be any more excited about her returning…even though it was just briefly. “We need to finish up here quickly, so we can return to the Pack as soon as possible." King said. “I know, but I can't bring tha
Chapter 165 Kaia's POV "Liviana?” She called weakly and a wave of relief washed over me. "Yes,” I nodded furiously. "It's me. I'm sorry it took this long to finally meet you.” I told her. She raised her hand weakly, Kieran rushing to her side to hold her hand. She caressed the side of my face gently and I saw tears fall from her eyes. “My Liviana!" She murmured again. Marcus, who had been quiet until now, moved forward, his hand pressed against his mouth. His eyes fought back tears as he spoke. “This is the most reaction we've gotten from her ever since she became like this." He told us. Lylah was certain she was going to get better, and with the recent development, I was also starting to get convinced that she would. "Lisa, we found Liviana." Marcus said, “she has your eyes, but everything else is like that of Matthew…she's beautiful!” He added. Her eyes remained on mine and her hand on my face, but she didn't say anything else but just stared at me like she w
Chapter 164 Kaia's POV The Pack members didn't take their eyes off us after we responded to their greetings and some of them rushed to meet Nora, and the excitement on their faces was palpable. I felt the tension within me easily melting away. Even though it was my first time being here, I felt at peace and I realized how much I had nothing to worry about. “It's this way, Luna." Nora said, pointing towards the large building that stood at a distance. “Everyone is waiting.” She added. "I'm not the one who's meeting her mom and I swear, I can't feel my heart." Allie whispered. "How are you all acting fine?” I snorted, she had no idea how it was for me a few days before now. Kieran and Caleb were the ones who got the most of it. Even though I don't feel that anxious now, I had been anxious the previous day to last me a few more days. Kieran's hand on mine tightened as we got closer to the building, where a lot of older Pack members were gathered. Once we got to them, they
Chapter 163Kaia's POV The craziest part was done, I couldn't believe I killed Elena, but like Kieran said, she deserved it. Because if she'd had her way, she would've done the same to me. The only thing that didn't happen was capturing Nessa and she was nowhere to be found. Somehow, she'd managed to escape through the back door. It wasn't until I was fully awake that I realized…was told that she'd been in the house as well. “You have nothing to worry about, mom is going to be happy to see you.” Caleb assured me. Kieran was in a meeting, so Caleb took it upon himself to keep me company. We were going to see our mom the next day and I was stuck between being excited and nervous. It was the same for Caleb, but he was trying to remain calm. After all it was him who had been left behind even though our mom could've handled finding her mate and leaving them behind differently. "I don't know how to relate with her…what if I'm not able to heal her and she ends up dying?" He s
Chapter 162 Kieran's POV I couldn't move for a few minutes, I tried mind-linking Kaia but there was no response and the more I tried, the more my uneasiness increased with each silence. “You didn't hear the rest of what I was saying." Caleb's voice came, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Dylan said they returned back to the Pack because Allie felt something was wrong with Ryder.” Of course she felt it, they were mates after all. Still not waiting for what he was saying, I shifted into my Lycan and began running back. My best guess was that they were on their way here and hopefully I met them before they got any closer. "Mate!” King growled, increasing his speed. Soon the familiar car they had taken to the city and a warrior stood in front of it, pacing around while wearing a worried look. I shifted back into my human form. “Where's my mate?" I asked him. “I was g-going to go with them….” He started, visibly trembling, which only infuriated me. “Where the fuck is she?
Chapter 161 Ryder s POV (Before Kaia and the girls showed up) The fight was becoming intense, our warriors were winning. Things were clearly not going as planned for the other group as Katherine was with the witch, who was chanting spells to make sure that whatever potions or poison that could give them an advantage was rendered useless. As I threw the rogue who was fighting against me away so that I could help the others, I caught sight of a figure trying to remain hidden and oddly enough, the person looked familiar…Nessa! I watched as she murmured to herself, her eyes glued to Kieran and Felix, who were fighting away from everyone and the more she spoke, the more a frustrated look appeared on her face. Though my best guess was that she was trying to help Felix but he was no match for Kieran. As quietly as I could, I went towards her but she soon noticed me and started running. I ran after her, increasing my speed but for some reason, the more I ran, I couldn't catch
Chapter 160 Kaia's POV The next few hours was pure torture, Dylan wouldn't tell us anything but at this point, I doubt he had any information to share either. At first, I thought trying to sleep might make everything pass by even faster so I locked myself in the room hoping to force myself to sleep but it was a waste of time. “Let's go for a walk, I think I'm going to go crazy if I remain here." I said, and they all turned to face me. “It's good for the babies." I added. “Kaia, that's not a good idea. It's going to be over soon and you can go for a walk all you want." Dylan said, “it's safer being in the house." I just stared at him as if he was speaking gibberish. I understood what he meant, but Lylah was driving me crazy. She wanted to hear from King but since he blocked us out, we couldn't feel anything so the only way to take her mind off things was putting her attention on something else. After so much back and forth, he gave in…he didn't have much choice, espec
