Kai's POV.

“What do you mean by you met 'our mate' today?” Ethan, my twin brother, asked in a serious tone.

“I meant what I said.” I responded casually, taking a puff of the cigarette in my hand.

“This should be a serious matter. Why do you say it so casually?” Ethan growled, shaking my shoulders.

I shook his hands off my shoulders and gave him a stone-cold look. “Because I don't want her.”

“You must be kidding. Where did you meet her?”

“At a bar in our pack.”

“Did you talk to her? What does she look like? Is she from our pack?” Ethan questioned nonstop.

“One question at a time, bro.” I rolled my eyes and inhaled another puff of smoke.

“To your first question, yes, I did more than speak with her. She, however, escaped before things escalated.”

Thinking back on that, I wondered what her reason for leaving was and how she had managed to escape without being caught. I still had the note she had left and the money. I still couldn't fathom her reason for that. Or had she mistaken me for a
