Jasmine's POV
I don't know how long we have been running, but I knew we had crossed our pack's border hours ago.
Elsa never for once paused to rest, and I didn't attempt to stop her either. It's not like if I stopped her, I had any strength to carry us to our destination.
Pure anger and wrath emanated from her as she kept running.
It wasn't fair for her to have witnessed that terrible earlier scene on the first day she had come into my life, but that was beyond my control.
“That bastard,” she hissed.
I ignored her because I didn't want to think about it anymore, or at least not yet.
Let me bask in the feeling of no thought and emptiness I was feeling now until the sadness and hurt begin to hit me later.
Dusk appeared, and Elsa still kept on running.
“Elsa, we crossed the border hours ago. Where are you taking us to?” I asked cautiously, not wanting to anger her further.
“Are you still thinking of returning to that cursed pack?” Elsa fumed.
I sighed in defeat. “It's not like I have anywhere else to go.”
She too sighed in defeat, as she knew I was right. Moon Shadow Pack was the only place I had known since birth, and my whole life seemed to revolve around that place.
“I have to return before it's late to prepare dinner for them.”
“It's not like you have skipped preparing dinner for them for just one night before. Let's do something fun tonight.”
“Like—?”
“Um.” Elsa pretended to be thinking about it, but something told me she had already made her choice long ago.
“Let's go to a bar.”
“A bar?” I repeated, not sure if I heard well.
“Yes. A bar,” she repeated stubbornly.
Our pack didn't own any drinking bar, and that would only mean one thing: we were going to have to visit the next pack to find a bar.
I opened my mouth to protest, but no words came out. If my father or our Alpha found out about this, I was going to be dead meat for sure.
On another thought, I should probably cooperate with her for tonight. After all, she had our best interest at heart and couldn't intentionally try to harm us.
Elsa took my no answer as a sign of submission and smiled for the first time in a while.
“There's a bar just over there. Are you ready to shift?”
I remembered something. “But we have no money to pay for the drinks, except the one—”
“The one what?” Elsa asked, slight mischief in her tone.
The money I had with me currently, forty dollars, was given to me by Mom earlier this morning to prepare dinner for the family.
I couldn't dare to imagine the number of beatings and wrath I would have to face if I used it on something else.
I already had one pending punishment at hand—for missing out preparing dinner for them tonight, coupled with the fact that I had one pending punishment already for failing to prepare dinner for them.
“Don't worry about that. We won't spend a cent out of it, anyway,” Elsa assured confidently.
“What do you mean?” I rolled my eyes inwardly, wondering what mischief she had up her sleeve this time.
“Just trust me for tonight. Would you?”
“Okay.”
Elsa approached the border of a neighboring pack and stopped.
“Really?” I couldn't believe the pack she had chosen.
Our pack and Night Walkers’ Pack have always been sworn enemies from years ago.
They both hated each other to the extent that both packs forbade their members from visiting the other's pack or risking death.
Not only that, Night Walkers’ Pack was ruled by twin Alphas. Everyone knew how much power and authority they wielded—even over neighboring packs.
I was beginning to doubt Elsa having our best interest at heart.
“I told you to just trust me tonight. You won't regret it.”
I really hope I don't.
I shifted into my human form and followed Elsa's guard.
The stars in the sky looked so shiny tonight that I couldn't help but stop to admire them for a minute.
I wondered for a split second what it would be like to be created as a star. I wouldn't have to face pain, heartbreaks, or torture. The only thing required of me was just to shine.
As I crossed the border and placed a foot into the pack, something almost didn't feel right.
It felt like a slight tug in my heart. Elsa seemed to sense it too and, thankfully, said nothing about it.
I ignored the feeling and went toward the bar. I muttered a prayer for safety and protection before proceeding to walk into the bar.
I chose a seat at the far back where I wouldn't be seen or discovered by anyone.
This was the first time I had gone to a place like this, and I couldn't help but feel awkward.
A man who I supposed to be the bartender approached me and scanned me from head to toe.
Oh Moon Goddess, let him not discover the truth about which pack I was from…
“This must be your first time here, isn't it?” He sent me a charming smile that caught me off guard.
I had to admit that he was hot as hell. If this was how all the men in this pack looked, it might not actually hurt to go home with one of them tonight.
Oh, no…
What the hell are you thinking, Jasmine? I slapped myself mentally.
“Y-yes.” I smiled sheepishly.
“You are welcome, beautiful.”
I blushed and felt the tension in my body ease up a bit.
I was not used to being complimented and only managed to flash him an awkward smile in appreciation.
“So what do I offer you, beautiful?” He winked at me.
I began to sweat internally. If I ordered the drinks, where would I find the money to pay for them?
“Give her a martini. Bill’s on me,” a rich, deep voice spoke from behind me.
Jasmine's POV“You useless, lazy bastard,” Jason bellowed.“Did you hear my call and refuse to respond? I have been waiting for you for nearly the whole day!”“I’m sorry, Alpha. I was making sure everything was all set,” I apologized.A week had passed since Chloe's unexpected death. The burial had been done hurriedly because of the disgraceful manner in which she died.I had resumed my duty as the Pack's slave in the palace that same day, and let me tell you, my hellish experiences since I got here dwarfed whatever I had gone through in my parents’ house.I slept at 10 p.m. and had to wake up by 3 a.m. to begin to prepare breakfast for the Alpha's family. It was supposed to be the job of over ten people, but I did it alone. That wasn't all. Jason had suddenly changed overnight, hitting and abusing me at every given moment. My life was merely hanging on by a thin thread at this point. I was being overworked and suffering so much physically and emotionally. There was, however, somethin
Kai's POV.“What do you mean by you met 'our mate' today?” Ethan, my twin brother, asked in a serious tone.“I meant what I said.” I responded casually, taking a puff of the cigarette in my hand.“This should be a serious matter. Why do you say it so casually?” Ethan growled, shaking my shoulders.I shook his hands off my shoulders and gave him a stone-cold look. “Because I don't want her.”“You must be kidding. Where did you meet her?”“At a bar in our pack.”“Did you talk to her? What does she look like? Is she from our pack?” Ethan questioned nonstop.“One question at a time, bro.” I rolled my eyes and inhaled another puff of smoke.“To your first question, yes, I did more than speak with her. She, however, escaped before things escalated.”Thinking back on that, I wondered what her reason for leaving was and how she had managed to escape without being caught. I still had the note she had left and the money. I still couldn't fathom her reason for that. Or had she mistaken me for a
Jasmine's POV.Hours had passed. Finally, I returned from the 'punishment' Chloe had assigned to me.Chloe had indeed gone to see Carter as I had thought, and after waiting for long hours, Chloe asked me to go home ahead after making me vow I wouldn't tell anyone about her destination. It was nearly time to prepare lunch, and I hurried home to avoid being late.I was met with the angry stares of my father and mother on arriving home.I apologized and got to work immediately.Towards evening time, I received news that the Alpha called for me, and I hurried down to the palace. It was probably Chloe calling for me.I walked into the Alpha's chamber and met Jason pacing around. Was there something wrong?“Good evening, Alpha.” I bowed courteously.“Save it! Where is Chloe?” Jason growled at me.My eyes widened. What did he mean?“Don't try to pretend all dumb here. Where is Chloe?” He shouted, making me shudder in fear.“I don't know where she is, Alpha. This morning was the last time I se
Jasmine's POV.At exactly five am, I opened my eyes and struggled to my feet.I was still in the same spot my mother had left me earlier.I had bled so much throughout the night that I thought I was going to die.I whimpered in pain as my legs staggered backwards and refused to support my body.I needed to hurry and prepare breakfast for the family and hurry to go see Jason.A part of me wondered whether he had noticed I had gone missing yesterday and had been worried a tiny bit.I hurried with preparing the food and dashed down to the bathroom to take my bath. While bathing, I was reminded of the man I had met at the bar yesterday—Kai. What had been his reaction when he found the note and money I dropped? Had he thought it was too small? Well, I hope we never get to cross paths again. From his aura, I could tell he definitely wasn't an ordinary wolf.Probably a Beta? Still impossible. My parents were Betas, and they did not possess half the powerful aura he had.He was most likely a
Jasmine's POV.It felt like ice water had been poured over my body that quenched every other raging fire of pleasure and need that I had previously held.He had a mate. Kai fucking had a mate. But doesn't this count as cheating? Why were male wolves given the liberty to cheat even while mated as they liked, while it wasn't the same for female wolves? It was a known rule in the Werewolf kingdom that if a female wolf was caught cheating or merely accused of cheating, she faced death by hanging or complete banishment as a rogue.Never was the same rule applied to men.I felt angry, hurt, and betrayed and wanted nothing more than to bolt out of this place.I couldn't deny Kai was good-looking as hell, but he was a cheat. If I had known earlier, I would have rejected him from the first offer he made to pay for my drinks.I put myself in the shoes of his mate and knew that she wouldn't be happy with him cheating on her. No one would.I had experienced the pain before and knew how it felt.“
Jasmine's POVI turned around and tilted my head to glance at the source of the voice.“Mind if I take the seat beside you?” His deep, velvety voice spoke.I nodded slowly, as though I were in a trance. He was tall, so tall that he was towering over me. His eyes were a rich blue that seemed to cast a spell on anyone they looked at. His face and looks were so perfectly sculpted that he could pass for a semi-god.There was something about his aura I couldn't place my hands on. It was so strong that it felt intimidating.“What's your name? I'm Kai.”He stretched his hand for a handshake.“I'm Jasmine. Nice to meet you.” My voice sounded foreign to my ears.“Jasmine…” My name rolled off so easily on his tongue that I was beginning to imagine how much better it would sound somewhere else ins…Eww, Jasmine. A man you just met? I rolled my eyes internally.“Beautiful name. Just like its owner.”My face heated up, and I looked everywhere else in the room apart from him.Wasn't this flirting?
