The forest trembled with the clash of swords and steel. The moonlight fractured across the chaos, silver light flashing over snarling wolves and blades dripping with blood.

Nyra struggled in the grip of her captors, dragged through the undergrowth. Her wrists burned where the warriors’ claws dug into her skin, each tug tearing at her. She kicked and sank her teeth into the arm of one, but it only earned her a brutal strike to the ribs that almost knocked the air from her lungs.

“Keep her quiet!” one barked, yanking her upright. “The Alpha will gut us if we let her go.”

Nyra’s chest heaved. She had been so close to freedom and now, it was wrenched away.
