ONE-HUNDRED-THIRTY-NINE

SCARLETT POV

After my conversation with my father, I realize he is right. Phoenix would rather fight than let me go willingly. I decide to tell him everything and hopefully, it will give him some time to prepare himself for it. I go to our room, but it is empty. I smile and tap into Ruth's sense of smell and take a deep breath.

I follow his scent back to Father's office and then over to Theodore's; I knock lightly on the door and smile as Tina looks up from some of Theodore's paperwork.

"So he has you doing the things he doesn't like doing, does he?"

"How do you know he doesn't like doing paperwork?"

"Because he used to get me to do it when I was old enough to read, write and understand what he needed done. Father was the same." I laugh and she joins me.

"So, what can I do for you?"

"Have you seen Nix?"

"Yeah, he came past a while ago, took something out of a drawer and then left..."
