Chadwicks POV

The drive back to the villa was a vacuum of noise. The engine hummed, the tires ate the asphalt, and the boy sitting in my passenger seat was a ghost. I didn't look at him. I couldn't. Every time I glanced at his silhouette, I heard that word echoing in my head. Hypocrites.

He was right, of course. That was the problem with Danny. He had this uncanny, bratty way of stripping back the layers of my carefully built life and pointing out the rot underneath.

I pulled into the drive

  • DESPISED AND DEVOURED BY MY STEP FATHER    Silent Blackmail

Danny's POV The neon sign outside the motel buzzed like a dying insect, casting a sickly, flickering red light over the cramped room. We were covered in road dust, our clothes stained with sweat and the lingering smell of exhaust. I looked at Chadwick, the billionaire, the untouchable professor and he looked like a runaway teenager. His shirt was missing three buttons, and he was leaning against the peeling wallpaper, panting. "I can't believe we did that," I said, a laugh escaping me. "We did," he breathed, his eyes tracking me. He didn't look like a man with cold heart anymore. For once, he just looked… tired. We had stopped at a 24 hour super center three miles back. It felt like a fever dream. We had bought cheap, oversized hoodies, boxes of fiery Ginger hair dye, and bags of junk food. Now, standing in the cramped, humid bathroom of a room that smelled like stale cigarettes and lemon cleaner, it felt like the world outside didn't exist anymore. "You go first," I said, handi

  • DESPISED AND DEVOURED BY MY STEP FATHER    The Chaos He Brings

Danny's POV The air outside was freezing. Or maybe I was just cooling down from the furnace of the car, but the moment I stepped out onto the gravel, the Hawaiian night hit me like a slap. My clothes were a mess. My silk shirt was hanging open, my zipper was stuck, and my hair felt like it had been through a shredder. The cop was still standing there. He had this wide, lazy grin on his face, like he had just watched a movie. He looked at me, then at Chadwick, and then back at me. He raked his eyes down my body with a look that made me want to shrink into the asphalt."Can’t blame you for doing it on the side of the road," the cop chuckled. He jerked his chin toward me. "Your boyfriend is a goddess. I would do the same thing if I had him."The sound of the words hadn't even finished vibrating in the air before the world exploded. There was no build up. No warning. Chadwick didn't even look like he was moving, but suddenly his fist was buried in the cop’s jaw. The sound of bone hitting

  • DESPISED AND DEVOURED BY MY STEP FATHER    Cease To Exist

Danny's POV The silence in the car after the seat dropped was heavy, vibrating with the kind of tension that makes your teeth ache. I was straddling him, my knees dug into the sides of the driver’s seat, staring down at Chadwick. He looked up at me, his eyes dark, half challenging, half waiting."Harassing you?" I whispered, my voice thick.I didn't give him time to answer, I leaned down and pressed my mouth to his. It wasn't the violent, teeth clashing mess from before. It was soft. I let my tongue slide against his, tasting the scotch and the heat, a slow, deep pull that made my head spin. I pulled back just an inch, our lips still grazing."This is how it is done with love," I breathed.I went back in, deeper this time, my hands shaking as I fumbled with the buttons of his linen shirt. I ripped them open, my palms hitting the broad, hot expanse of his chest. He felt like a furnace. I broke the kiss for a second, my breath hot against his ear."Don’t make any noise," I warned, my

  • DESPISED AND DEVOURED BY MY STEP FATHER    Who's The Monster Now?

Danny's POVThe cabin of the car felt like it was shrinking, the air thick with the smell of expensive leather and the terrifying ozone of Chadwick’s rage. I was still holding the burner phone I had snatched from him."Give me the phone, Danny," he said, his voice a low, vibrating hum that I felt in my teeth."No!" I shoved it against my chest, right under my silk shirt. "You aren't killing anyone tonight. You are insane and you have a warped sense of humor."He lunged for me, his hands reaching for my chest to pry the device back, and I scrambled against the passenger door, kicking out at his expensive dress. We were a mess elbows knocking against the dashboard, knees hitting the gear shift. It wasn't some graceful struggle, it was frantic and clumsy. I was breathing like I had just run a marathon, and he was staring at me with this laser focus that made me feel too seen.Suddenly, a flash of white light swept across the windshield. My heart didn't just stop, it fell through the fl

  • DESPISED AND DEVOURED BY MY STEP FATHER    My StepDad Is Insane

Danny's POV I slammed my bedroom door and twisted the lock until it clicked, the sound echoing like a final nail in a coffin. I sank to the floor, my back against the wood, my lungs feeling like they were filled with dry sand. What was wrong with Gabriel?I closed my eyes and all I could see was that twisted mirror image of myself. The blonde hair, the blue eyes, the stolen shirt and him pinning Noah to the wall. It was a replay of Leo. It was a replay of every time I finally reached for a hand and Gabriel was there to bite it off. We used to be best friends. We used to share secrets and cheap takeout, and now he was trying to skin me alive and wear my life like a costume. I never really thought much about it but it finally all clicked. Is it me? I wondered, a sob hitching in my throat. Did I push him? Did I make him this way by being so distant these days? The tears were coming fast now, hot and ugly, blurring my vision until the room was just a smear of expensive decor. I reached

  • DESPISED AND DEVOURED BY MY STEP FATHER    Another Betrayal

Danny's POV The sun is a liar. It’s bright and golden and looks like it should heal you, but all it did was make the sweat sting the fresh welts on my back. I dressed in slow, agonizing motions, pulling on a silk button down and fastening every single button up to my throat. I looked like a Victorian doll in the middle of the tropics, but I couldn't let them see. I couldn't let anyone see.I caught my reflection and felt a wave of nausea. My eyes were sunken, my lips swollen from a kiss that felt more like a car crash. I looked like a boy who was being eaten alive from the inside out.The beach brunch was a nightmare of clinking silverware and forced laughter. I sat next to Noah, trying to focus on the way he pulled out my chair and handed me a chilled glass of juice. He was being perfect. He was being the worship. I had screamed about wanting. And yet, every time his fingers grazed mine, I felt… nothing. Just a hollow, echoing silence where a heartbeat should be.Across the table,

Danny's POV The lecture hall felt like a pressurized chamber. The hum of the air conditioning was the only thing filling the silence as Professor Chadwick stood at the front of the room. Danny's POV The mirror in my dorm room was smaller and cheaper than the one back at the house, but it didn't hide the truth any better.
