Chapter 002

Ava’s POV

What was he trying to say? I needed to go to my husband, I don't have all night.

"Mr James?" I called, my expression questioning, then he nodded, his eyes as if not too sure of whatever he was about to say.

"But, I think Mr Reyes left a long time ago. It wasn't even his usual closing time when he left." He muttered.

My breath increased, and I could hear my heart pounding hard in my chest. What does he mean he left a long time ago?

What does he mean my husband left the office already and didn't come home to meet me his wife?

That couldn't be true, maybe he had left to get something earlier and came back to the office.

"Mr James are you sure about what you're telling me?" I questioned, my voice fierce.

"Yes Mrs Reyes," He said, but my eyes stared at him and my face squinted, feeling skeptical. How could he say my husband left already, when he wasn't home?

Without saying any more word, I picked up my bag from my car and went to the elevator. A few minutes later, I arrived at Liam's office floor.

Some ease settling down in my heart, I knocked on his door.

I was going to see my husband.

I placed several knocks on the door, but no one responded to it. My face was becoming pale, and I could feel the tension in my blood.

What was going on?

I knew his password, hence I punched in the numbers and pushed it open at once.

My eyes went straight to Liam's desk, but Liam was nowhere on his desk or on his comfy couch.

I felt a strange sensation run down my spine.

He was supposed to be here, but where has he gone?

No he has to be here.

"Liam?" I called, my voice soft. But no one responded to my call.

I sprang into his bathroom, then his kitchen, but there was no Liam.

My heart dropped. And my breath hitched.

This could only mean one thing. Liam had been lying to me.

Liam had been lying to me about staying late at the office for work.

What had my husband been up to?

This question rang in my head.

With panic settled in my eyes and anxiety hammering my chest, I ran out of his office, back into my car.

Mr James looked at me, but I wasn't able to say anything to him.

Liam had shocked me and I couldn't even explain how shocked I was.

I trusted him so much, how could he lie to me? What have you been doing with those late nights? Where was he? I had tears brimming in my eyes, but this wasn't the time to cry.

While I sat inside my car, I wasn't able to bring myself to start up the car, my thoughts were going out of control, and my mind was in a complete haze. I sat there for a few minutes to calm my nerves.

With my heart still beating out of rhythm, I brought out my phone, and I watched my hand shake vigorously. My Liam was slipping away. What was I supposed to do now? I was losing it.

I put a call to Lisa, and she picked up right away on the first ring.

Lisa was my friend at the office, I haven't been going to the office because Liam asked me to take a leave so I could rest a bit before resuming back.

I thought he had done that to complement me for my hard work, winning him a contract from M&Co Jewels, meanwhile, he had other plans.

He was up to something. My curiosity heightened, my husband was never like this, he never hides anything from me, but now?
