Ava's POV
I looked out through the window of our penthouse. My mind drifted awayband my eyes filled with nothing but yearning for my husband. My heartbeat increasing by the minute. My husband and I had loved each other deeply since we were in the university I was everything to him just as he was to me. But lately, Liam started changing. Why did my husband who used to prioritise me above everyone else and also tell me every single thing going on in his life no longer does that? Liam was slipping away from my hand slowly, yet I didn't seem to know what to do about it With a heavy-filled heart, I stared back at the dining table, the food I had prepared with so much love in my heart looking back at me sad and cold. This was the fourth time I'm preparing food for Liam today, but none of it has been eaten by him. I had been in this house waiting for Liam since the crack of dawn. I knew he was changing but I hadn't expect him to behave like this today of all day. "Ma’am, I think you should go in for the night, it's late already, also the food is already cold now." My housemaid Alice muttered, jolting me back from my several rays of thoughts. My head nodded unconsciously, she was right. The food was cold now and Liam wasn't back. "Don't worry about me, you can go in to have your rest for the night," I muttered to her, my voice low. Her eyes held pity for me. She lived in this house, hence she knew what Liam was becoming. He was changing, even Alice noticed to the point she was having pity in her heart for me. Once I saw Alice was gone, my lips quivered, and in a split second, I burst into tears. It streamed down my face, I couldn't control it. Liam was becoming what I never expected of him. He was never like this from the beginning of our marriage. For three good years, Liam has shown me nothing but so much love and affection, I wonder what has come over my husband. Severe whimper eloped my guts— I was losing it, even if he had to do this, should it be on the day of our anniversary? I had made his favourite meal like million times today waiting for him to come back and celebrate our third year of being together, yet he wouldn't come back. Even when I put calls through to him, he refused to take my calls, leaving me miserable in this big house. Without any more thoughts, I stormed back into my room and picked up my handbag. I was going to meet him at his office. If he wasn't coming to me, I could as well go meet him. When I came out of my room, Alice was back at the dining table, I tilted my head at her. "Why did you come back?" I muttered. "I came back to check on you, then.. the food.. should I take them back now?" She muttered, her eyes sulking, just like mine. I nodded “Yeah... of course.. he didn't come.. so..” I muttered, my voice low and my face glum. I was ready to leave now, to go meet Liam at the office where he had been giving me excuses that he was busy with work. But something was holding me back, I suddenly felt dizzy, my head spun and my eyes went round the room, my knees became weak, I staggered almost crumbling to the floor, but Alice was too quick to hold me in place. This had been happening for days now and it was only getting worse, maybe I should see a doctor, because I couldn't figure out why I had become so light and nauseous all of a sudden. After some time, I got myself back. Still breathing huskily, I collected my bag that I had dropped on the table, ready to leave. “Ma’am, maybe you should see a doctor..” Alice muttered, her voice coated with worry. I nodded at her with a smile not so bright. A few minutes later, my breath returned to normal, ready to leave again. I nodded at Alice and retrieved my bag that she had held in her grip. With my thoughts going in different directions, I made it to my car. I had to see Liam today. I was tired of this now and should know what my husband was up to. It was already late, outrageously late at night, but what could I do, I needed to save my marriage. Tightening my belt, slowly, I drove out of our compound, my mind juggling back to the days when Liam couldn't wait to return home from work just to watch me eat. Several sighs escaped my lungs remembering those good old days. He made me happy and I was grateful I married him. The company was a 30-minute drive from our home, I was driving fast and couldn't wait to see Liam, hence just in a swift, I arrived at the company. My eyes went around the premises, and I wondered why Liam enjoyed being here now than spending time with me, his wife. I understand he had to work, but he was also a CEO who didn't always have so much work to do. Coming down from my car, one of the security rushed up to me, his brows raised, almost a questioning gaze in his eyes. Yeah, it was odd for anyone to show up at the company by this time, and most especially me, but my husband was still here. "Mrs Reyes?" He called, his brows still raised at me and his head tilted aside. I almost smiled at his genuine curiosity, he was wondering what I had to do back here at this late hour. "Well.. I'm here to see my husband, are you satisfied now?" I muttered and chuckled at his innocence. He was a nice man—Liam always complimented his hard work. "But.. but.." He stammered, raising my brows at him.Ava's POVBut since he said it wouldn't happen again, I decided to leave it at that, besides he didn't sleep with her.I kept laughing at the video, and Liam laughed along with me.The next thing was my eyes, which were glued to his phone moved past his fingers to his lips. How I love him so much, and his succulent lips I could have myself munching on them all night.Knowing I had been distracted, he traced his eyes up to my face, smile crept up to his lips.Slowly, his eyes began going down to my lips, before I could know it, he grabbed mine into his and we began relishing on each other's lips—the man that I love, my heart never ceasing to tingle anytime I stared at his face, he was my everything.---------Having such a blissful night, I woke up with my mind at ease and a bright smile on my face.I stretched myself so hard on the bed and suddenly jerked when my eyes went to the other side of the bed and I couldn't feel Liam.My eyes darted around."Liam?" I called but no reply, it w
Ava's POV My heart pounded in my chest, and I tightened my fist beside me, the name Ivy ringing in my head like a plague that had just found a comfortable place for itself. When did she come back to California? This question lingered in my mind. Ivy had travelled to New York and started a life there after her breakup with Liam, why was she back? For some reason, I felt threatened, panic flooding my stomach, and it churned with upset. Was she back to take Liam from me?She was said to be a ruthless girl who goes after whatever she wants and wouldn't stop until she gets it.Just then I heard my name. "Ava?" That was Liam.I had been caught."Why did you follow me here?" He questioned, his face scrunched up as if disappointed and upset."When did you start eavesdropping?" He added, still fuming."With all you've been doing lately, you don't expect this from me?" I muttered, turning around to leave, then he held me back. His hand on my shoulder and his hazel eyes staring into mine.He
Ava’s POVHe turned his head around. His fierce jaw came down to my face, and the water on his hair was still dropping, it bonked on my forehead. But his eyes—there was something in his eyes, as if he wasn't happy with me, and his face was too cold to be my usual Liam. Who was this?"Ava." He muttered, his voice outrageously cold; it sent chills down my spine, and my heart began hammering in my chest. Then he placed his hand gently on my arms and took it off his body, turning around and completely facing me now."Liam," I muttered, my voice barely above whispers. His expression cold, and was that anger I just saw in his eyes? I was supposed to be the angry one here, what right does he have to be furious after what he did? Was it because I didn't come into this room howling and growling like an angry wolf?"Where are you coming from?" His voice broke.Oh really, he hasn't been home since the crack of dawn, and he knew what today was for us and now questioning me, who just left the ho
Ava’s POV"Hey Ava, what's up, aren't you sleeping?" Lisa's voice came up, although sounding sleepy, but still very bright. I stayed quiet for some time, our chamber was a bit far from Liam, what if she doesn't know anything? Either way, I should still ask."Ava?" She called again when she didn't hear any word from me."I'm here," I muttered."What's up, you don't sound okay, is anything the matter? Why are you not sleeping by this time?" She muttered, concern dripping from her voice. "Lisa, did you notice anything strange around Liam at the office recently?" I asked, my voice just above whispers. She was silent for some time, maybe trying to put it together. Then she finally sounded, "What happened, why are you asking? Is anything going on with your marriage?" She asked, her tone worried and direct. Lisa was my very good friend, if not more like a sister, she always helped figure out any issues I had, and then we found solutions to them together, she was just the best person I had
Ava’s POVWhat was he trying to say? I needed to go to my husband, I don't have all night."Mr James?" I called, my expression questioning, then he nodded, his eyes as if not too sure of whatever he was about to say."But, I think Mr Reyes left a long time ago. It wasn't even his usual closing time when he left." He muttered. My breath increased, and I could hear my heart pounding hard in my chest. What does he mean he left a long time ago? What does he mean my husband left the office already and didn't come home to meet me his wife? That couldn't be true, maybe he had left to get something earlier and came back to the office."Mr James are you sure about what you're telling me?" I questioned, my voice fierce."Yes Mrs Reyes," He said, but my eyes stared at him and my face squinted, feeling skeptical. How could he say my husband left already, when he wasn't home?Without saying any more word, I picked up my bag from my car and went to the elevator. A few minutes later, I arrived at Li
