Chapter 003

Ava’s POV

"Hey Ava, what's up, aren't you sleeping?" Lisa's voice came up, although sounding sleepy, but still very bright.

I stayed quiet for some time, our chamber was a bit far from Liam, what if she doesn't know anything? Either way, I should still ask.

"Ava?" She called again when she didn't hear any word from me.

"I'm here," I muttered.

"What's up, you don't sound okay, is anything the matter? Why are you not sleeping by this time?" She muttered, concern dripping from her voice.

"Lisa, did you notice anything strange around Liam at the office recently?" I asked, my voice just above whispers.

She was silent for some time, maybe trying to put it together.

Then she finally sounded, "What happened, why are you asking? Is anything going on with your marriage?" She asked, her tone worried and direct.

Lisa was my very good friend, if not more like a sister, she always helped figure out any issues I had, and then we found solutions to them together, she was just the best person I had and I loved her so much.

Even if I'm going to hide anything from anybody, not from Lisa. "Well.. Liam hasn't returned home by this time and this has been going on for weeks now." I muttered and she gasped. She knew what today was for us and if Liam forgot such an important day in our lives, then something was wrong somewhere.

"So tell me, if you notice anything strange about Liam lately."

"I really can't tell Ava, I've not been paying attention to many things at the office lately except the designs you left behind before your break, and I'm also going through a breakup right now." She muttered and I felt my heart drop.

My shoulder slumped, with so much tenderness engulfing my heart for her.

She had loved Ethan so much, I couldn't believe he'd do something like that to her.

"Don't think about it too much and forget about him, he is a jerk and doesn't deserve you," I said, my voice persuasive.

"Thanks, Ava." She muttered.

"Sorry, Lisa," I muttered once again, my heart feeling a deep empathy for her, if she were here, I'd have given her a really tight hug.

"Why don't you come back to work? I thought your leave was over?" she muttered.

"Yes Lisa, don't worry, I'm resuming work tomorrow."

My leave was not over yet, but I have no choice but to resume work tomorrow.

Let's see what Liam has been up to and let's wait for whatever lies he has to tell yet again.

Talking to Lisa seemed to have calmed my mind a bit, as my body felt slightly stronger now, and I could drive.

"Alright, see you tomorrow Lisa, as I said, he's a jerk, you must not think about him," I muttered.

"Thank you Ava, and try to go to sleep, Liam loves you so much, he wouldn't try any sh!t" she muttered, her words seemed to soothe my mind even more. It was a blessing talking to her this night.

"Alright, goodnight," I muttered and finally hung up.

I really felt enthusiastic after speaking with he—Lisa my always female supportive pillar. And my male supportive pillar was Liam, except now he was fluctuating.

Somehow I knew she was going to make me feel better. If I had told her I came to look for Liam at the company by this time, she'd be so worried and would even want to come down here to meet me, but I didn't tell her knowing who she was, she needed to rest after a whole day at work and now she even had a heartbreak she was going through.

Looking deep into it, I think I was going through heartbreak too. Liam was behaving out of control, making me flustered almost every minute of my life.

I wish he could stop this already, I needed him to explain truthfully to me why he had been doing this and come back to being himself. I loved him so much and all this he was doing was affecting me negatively.

I looked through my windshield and saw Mr James staring at me.

I knew he was thinking about something. Putting two and two together, he'd know something was going on with my marriage.

Just then, my phone buzzed, a call came into my phone with an unknown number, who could it be? But before I could pick it up, my phone battery went flat, and the next thing was a black screen shoved to my face.

Several hisses escaped my lungs. Who could've called me with a new number? Was it Liam using one of his office lines for me? But he was not at the office. With another fresh lump developing at my throat, I plugged my phone and made to drive out now.

Waving Mr James a quick goodbye. He waved back.

When I was out on the streets, I drove as recklessly as I could to get off this lonely road as soon as possible. I was very good at driving hence it was easier.

A few minutes later, I arrived at my estate. Driving into our lot with my heart heavy and my face sullen.

When I had arrived at our lot completely, my eyes dropped on something that made my face scrunched up.

My forehead creased as I came down from my car, staring at the car beside our limousine. This was the car Liam had left with this morning, does that mean he was back and inside?

My brows raised and mixed feelings began brewing inside of me. I suddenly became tense, adrenaline boosting inside my system and engulfing my whole being.

Tempted to rush in and begin questioning Liam, but I must remain calm.

Maybe something genuine must have led to this behavior, I must not be too demanding and condescending.

I breathed in calmly and walked through that door of our multi-billion-dollar elegant penthouse.

My eyes darted around when I got in, but he wasn't anywhere in sight, though his heavenly scent lingered, calming my nerves even more, I was slowly letting go of the anger screwing up my mind earlier, just because of his perfect scent.

All that was on my mind now was going in there, set my eyes on my husband, and remain in his arms.

The fact that I couldn't even remain angry at him just by perceiving his scent made me a bit mad at myself and that, wouldn't even take seconds to wear off as soon as I set my eyes on him now.

With my tensed-up mind calming down and my longing heightened, I walked slowly into our master bedroom, and there, my husband stood, his muscled back to me, and his perfect skin tone glaring hard at me.

He had a towel around his waist and had another mini towel in his hand, drying his hair, he probably just had a bath. He was the true definition of a perfect gorgeous man, one of the reasons why he was my man, I had fallen in love with Liam over and over again and was still falling just by looking at him. I wished to run into his arms now, look into his eyes, and ask him why he had lied to me.

I knew my anger had already melted away, but this, I must get answers to, I needed to keep trusting my husband.

I want the truth from him and nothing but the truth, no matter how hurtful it was going to sound.

I needed him to tell me what he had been up to.

I walked up to where he stood, wrapping my hand around his body from behind.
