Chapter 005

Ava's POV

My heart pounded in my chest, and I tightened my fist beside me, the name Ivy ringing in my head like a plague that had just found a comfortable place for itself.

When did she come back to California? This question lingered in my mind.

Ivy had travelled to New York and started a life there after her breakup with Liam, why was she back?

For some reason, I felt threatened, panic flooding my stomach, and it churned with upset.

Was she back to take Liam from me?

She was said to be a ruthless girl who goes after whatever she wants and wouldn't stop until she gets it.

Just then I heard my name. "Ava?" That was Liam.

I had been caught.

"Why did you follow me here?" He questioned, his face scrunched up as if disappointed and upset.

"When did you start eavesdropping?" He added, still fuming.

"With all you've been doing lately, you don't expect this from me?" I muttered, turning around to leave, then he held me back.

His hand on my shoulder and his hazel eyes staring into mine.

He had an expression I couldn't place my hand upon.

Then he muttered, "I'm sorry Ava."

His eyes filled with remorse now but still digging into mine. What could I have done when he became like this? He had never done anything close to this for the past three years of our marriage, I could forgive this, one time.

"You should never do this again Liam, just a few days in California, look how we are already," I muttered, she was coming between us, ready to destroy my marriage and I must put it out to Liam immediately.

He nodded.

"You're right." He muttered again, his eyes faraway as if debunking some thoughts.

"What's the matter?" I asked, my eyes looking up at his full body above me.

"Nothing, don't bother about it, I trust you, you're my wife."

"And I'm sorry again for not showing up for our anniversary today." He muttered.

And with this, he didn't need to say anymore word for me to completely forgive him and be in bliss.

The man of my dream.

He held my hand and we began walking in.

"When did she come back to California and why?" I asked, trying to figure out if she'd leave soon or back here for good.

"Last week."

Yeah of course, that was exactly when Liam started this attitude.

"Is she back for good?" I asked.

"She's here for a business collaboration with M&Co Jewels, I'm sure when she's done, she'll leave."

I knew everything I needed to know now but there was still one crucial question I needed to ask.

"Liam?" I called and he stopped.

I held his other hand and faced him, "Did.. did you sleep with her?" I asked, my heart beating out of rhythm now waiting for his reply.

Liam stayed quiet for some time, knots were beginning to form in my stomach, why was he quiet? Did he sleep with her? Just then he finally opened his mouth.

"You should trust me Ava, I didn't sleep with her." He spoke and dragged me along.

My mind could finally be at peace.

When we got to our room, I smiled sheepishly, knowing I still had my husband.

He had some funny videos on his phone and began showing me while I laughed at them.

I decided to keep the rest of whatever insecurities I had at the back of my mind.

He already said he wouldn't repeat it again hence no need to dig into why he was keeping late and what he was doing with her to be returning home late like that.
