Chapter 23 –Invitation

“Dad, you are looking at me as if I betrayed you!” I said as I took a bite of apple.

My mother looked at me and him while frowning.

“You knew that we would support you in everything, right?” my mom said while still frowning at the thought of me not sharing my dream with them.

“Mom, it isn’t like that at all, you know that.” I said as I sat down beside her.

“Then what is it about? You studied something that has no relationship with what you want to do now. I somewhere knew that you never want to go for accounting or finance, but you still went for it. We even told you to go for what you like but…”

“Mom, I knew what I was doing. I wanted to do finance, but I did some side course for writing too.”

“But you could have done a complete course of anything you liked. We would have supported you through anything.”

“But that wouldn’t be the best and secure life to go for. Right now, even if I don’t succeed, I’ll still have more options.” I finally said what I thought, and I knew, this one line is going to cause a big trouble.

“You don’t make dream your options, Amy.” My mom whispered as I kept my head on her shoulder.

“Mom, do you remember how tough it was for dad when he started his school? He was so unsure of everything and stumbled so many times, but you supported him through this and finally reached here. At that time, I thought, if we had better degrees and options to choose, we wouldn’t have suffered that much. I don’t mean anything bad but looking for a secure future, is that a terrible thing to do? Maybe, considering my dream to be an option was a bad idea, but I tried my best in both things. Please, forgive me?” I said as I nuzzled in her hairs like a child and she finally kept her hand on my head and I knew, I cracked the hard shell.

“Fine, but no more stupid decisions. We have enough money to support you through your dreams now. Go for whatever you think is best for you.” My mom said and dad came from behind and leaned to hug us from behind.

“My daughter has grown so much.” I nodded at him, and he kissed the side of my head and then turned my head to other side to kiss my mom.

“Oh right, Alexander knows about this?” They suddenly looked at me.

“About what?” What am I supposed to tell him?

“About you resigning.”

“Uh–” I drawled and thought about the resignation letter that should have reached him now.

“He will get to know soon.” They looked at me in confusion as I went back to my room.

The best part about not moving out of your parent’s house is no matter how much you anger someone, they still have to behave right in front of your parents.

I looked at my phone ringing at it’s loudest every two minutes.

Oh, he got to know about me resigning.

I picked the call and all I heard was silence on the other side and said, “I will tell you everything when we meet tomorrow.”

“Okay.” He was being noticeably quiet.

Then suddenly, as if his mood restored, he said “That ex of yours sent invitation of some gallery he will be showing his work in. Want to go?”

“Why do you suddenly sound happy?”

“You even have problem with this now?”

“Alex–”

“I have work to do now. About your resignation, I am not accepting it till you come here and tell me about it yourself.” He said and hung up the call.

“Alright, let’s go to the office to get it accepted right now.” I nodded to myself and got ready for the finale.

This step will finally let me grow my wings.

Oh my god, I never realized just how famous am I now.

Please note the sarcasm.

“Hello, Jen. I wasn’t expecting you here.” I smiled as I saw her and Nick standing in front of my office. Just what novel am I in where anybody who wants to meet us can enter right in here.

“Hi, Amy. We actually came to meet you and Mr. Alexeev. I never knew that he was the CEO of the Alexeev corps.” She suddenly held my elbow intimately and I almost wanted to pull my hand back.

Why is it that every ex now-a-days is turning out gold-digger…

“I am busy and don’t have time for this Jen. What is it you want?” I said curtly.

She threw my hand away suddenly and tears started to pool in her eyes and Nick almost supported his weak and scared girlfriend who was as energetic as an horny rabbit and looked at me scornfully. Great, get them an Oscar now!

“You know what, I might love dramas, but I still hate bitches.” I said before I gave a look to floor assistant, and she called for security.

“Add them to blacklist please, thank you.” I said and they were finally out of the place.

In Alexander’s Office,

“…I wanted to be a writer from a long time. So, I first went for a secure life and then, for my dreams.”

He listened to me and got up to give me my resignation letter and when I thought he is throwing me out, he said “Now, give it to me, face to face. I’ll sign it for you.”

I smiled widely and he signed it in front of me.

“All the best.” He said and finally, I felt I was free as I just have to work for 3 weeks more and explain my work to the secretary taking my place after 3 weeks.

“Oh yeah, my mother wanted to talk to you, so I gave her your number.”

“I’ll see to it.”
