My nerves finally gave in as my adrenaline rush disappeared. Falling on my ass and then laying down on my back to breathe a sigh of relief. Kai was whimpering and when I asked if everything was alright, he was silent. I couldn’t think about it long before I felt something wet touch my fingers. I bring my hand into view and jump up. Looking at where the bone was previously poking out, blood was gushing out. I did everything right, right? I didn't put too much pressure when pushing the bone into place. So, what happened?

'Kai? Kai!?' The only response I got was his whimpers. 'Kai, y-you knew.... you knew and didn't say anything. She will bleed out if you don't help me.'

'There's nothing we can do. She's lost too much blood. I can't sense her wolf.' he solemnly whispers. 'You tried Jesse. None of this is your fault. Remember that.'

I was not going to accept this outcome. I know there is something I can do, but what though? I don't have much time to think, she's starting to become pale. Out of nowhere, I hear a woman's voice. "Mark her.... Mark her and it will speed up her healing process. It is the only way you can save her."

'Jesse! Don't! Completely ignoring Kai, I bite in between her neck and shoulder. Feeling my teeth dig deeper into her, the taste of her blood clicks something on in me. I can feel her. She's in pain and she's.... she’s scared. As I lick my mark to seal it, I hear Kai grumbling. 'Jesse, what did you do? You forcibly marked her. If she wakes, she will hate you.'

'What are you talking about? If? We saved her. Look.' The bleeding stopped and where there was once a gaping hole, now looked like there was never a bone popping out. Color was coming back to her, but she still wasn't waking. 'She will see us as her knight in shining armor. She will love us and stay by our side so we can continue to protect her.'

'Get out of La La Land man. Do you not remember the stories the elders told you while growing up? Marking your mate without consent can turn into a sticky situation, especially if she does not even know you are her mate. What in the Moon Goddess made you mark her?'

'A voice. I heard a woman's voice. She said it would save her and I believed her.' Kai's growl makes me jump as it continues to echo throughout my mind.

'There is no one else here but us and our mate. I heard absolutely nothing. Now, because of you, our chances may have been ruined, just because you listened to a voice that you imagined.' Kai's voice goes from angry to a cry. 'When she wakes, shhh.... she could reject us. We will die Jesse. Do you understand that?'

'Stop being dramatic. We won't die and I didn't imagine the voice. Everything is going to be fine. Trust me.'
