Chapter 1

Chapter 1- Home sweet home.

1, 2, 3, 4.

The beat dropped like a thunderclap, thumping through the speakers and vibrating in every ribcage in the building. Lights flashed, hips swayed, and just like that, the party roared to life.

"Hello, Las Vegas! Thank you all for coming out tonight!" the girl on stage hollered, a grin stretching across her face like she'd swallowed the sun. "Seriously, you guys rocked!"

Kye. The name on everyone’s lips.

Wearing a cropped denim jacket, ripped high-waisted jeans, and blue sneakers that matched her unapologetically cocked cap, she looked like a walking music video. The cool kind.

"We love you, Kye!" The crowd chanted in chorus, like loyal subjects hailing their queen.

With a dazzling smile and a flurry of blown kisses, she descended from the stage. The crowd’s chant—Kye! Kye!—trailed her like glitter on a breeze.

The moment her sneakers hit the ground, a man appeared like a genie from backstage, holding out a bottle of water like it was an Olympic torch.

“Thanks,” she said, flashing him a tired but genuine smile.

“Anytime,” he nodded and melted back into the chaos.

Another figure approached—clipboard, headset, full white pants, blue-striped shirt, and the eternal expression of a man clinging to his last nerve. Bob. Her manager.

“Hey, Bob,” she greeted, tossing him a lazy wave.

“That was pure awesomeness, Kye.”

“You know it,” she smirked.

“Let’s not inflate your ego more than necessary,” he teased, rolling his eyes so hard they probably saw the back of his brain.

She giggled and stretched her arms skyward like a free bird. “I’m going home!”

“Home?” His eyebrows did a little dance of confusion.

“Yes. Home. Don’t tell me you forgot to notify the agency.”

“I won’t tell you,” he replied with a sheepish grin.

She blinked. “You didn’t tell them?”

“Oh, I told them,” he said, trying to look offended. “But there’s a twist.”

Her eyes narrowed. “What kind of twist?”

He shrugged like he was narrating a plot twist in a soap opera. “You’ll find out when you get there.”

Kye groaned. “Fine. At least they said yes. One more year and I’m a free-range chicken!”

Bob squinted. “So, what’s the grand plan once you touch down in Norville?”

Her eyes lit up. “I’m going back to high school, Bob. I want to be a regular student.”

He blinked, then blinked again. “I thought you said exciting stuff. That sounds like detention with extra steps, and by the way, that ain't happening gurl.”

“Hey! You’re my manager, not my dad.”

“Well, this manager is running to the agency to cancel your teenage rebellion.”

“Bob, please.” She clasped her hands dramatically. “I’ve been homeschooled forever. I want real friends. Real life. I want to laugh over stupid memes, cry over dumb boys, gossip in hallways. I want to remember my teen years as more than just recording studios and press tours.”

“But you have friends!”

She let out the most unladylike snort. “You mean Antha, Gilda, and Lily? Please. Gilda’s always like, ‘Did you see that car? I’m buying it.’ Then Lily swoops in, ‘Already did, babe.’ And Antha turns to me like, ‘Kye, you getting one?’ And I nod while calculating the number of instant noodles I could buy instead.”

Bob raised a brow. “They're not even your age, Kye.”

“Exactly!” she exclaimed, hands in the air like she’d just dropped a mic. “I want friends who don’t wear high heels for brunch. I want a bestie I can share secrets and Skittles with. Someone who won’t judge me for binge-watching cartoons. I want to a living model for my future children. Think about them, Bob!”

He crossed his arms. “So your future daughter’s going to be fangirling over boys and writing love letters?”

Kye rolled her eyes. “That’s all you got from my speech?”

“I’m just saying... Last time you tried regular school, I lost half my hair. Half.”

She chuckled, not even trying to look guilty. “But it grew back nicely.”

He glared. “Eggs. Glue. The ‘We Hate Kye’ manager fan club.”

“The memes were kinda funny.”

“You are lucky I still work for you.”

She grinned. “This time will be different. Lowkey. Undercover. Invisible Kye.”

He blinked. “Incognito? I don’t even want to know. Just let me get home to my wife in one piece.”

Kye gave a dramatic sigh. “Finally. I'm going home.”

---

In NorVille

Inside a mansion so pristine it practically sparkled, a woman was marching around like a general before battle.

“Clean the room across from Ken’s. Our girl’s coming home!” she announced with the glee of someone preparing for royalty.

The kitchen welcomed her with the rich, glorious smell of something delicious, and she gasped, “Is that... food? Real food?!”

From around the corner came the thundering feet of a small boy. Ken—age seven, tablet in hand, energy level: caffeine on legs.

“Moooom!” he shouted, eyes wide. “The article says Sis is coming home today!”

“Yes, baby, Kylie’s on her way,” she confirmed, bopping his nose.

“For real? Like... in person? Not on YouTube?”

“Yes, sweetheart. She’ll be here soon. Mr. Alex went to get her.”

Ken took off like a rocket, presumably to draw a welcome sign or inform his action figures of the incoming celebrity. His mother just laughed, pure joy bubbling in her chest.

---

Ten Hours Later – Airport

The airport pulsed with anticipation. Fans waved banners. Some wore T-shirts with Kye’s face plastered across them. Others held up signs like “Kye 4 President (of My Heart)” and “Marry Me or I Riot.”

Then she appeared.

Red crop top. High-waisted pants. Messy bun. Sunglasses that said I’m famous and I know it. She wheeled her suitcase like it was on a catwalk. Security had to hold the line like Spartans at the gate.

Reporters swarmed.

“Why are you back, Kye?”

“What’s the plan?”

“Is it true you’ve left music?”

She answered while sporting a smile on her face. “ I came back because I miss my family, and I just want to spend time with them.”

Another reporter pushed forward. “How does it feel, being back?”

“Happiness,” she said simply. “Pure, undiluted happiness. I’d love to chat more, but I’m running on zero sleep and two slices of airport pizza. Catch me next time?”

The crowd cooed in understanding.

Then a voice rang out above the rest: “We love you, Kye!”

She turned and waved. “I love you, too!” She blew kisses, which only fueled the chaos.

With security parting the sea of people, Kye stepped outside, paused, and took a deep breath.

“Home, sweet home.”

Chapter 2- Fake love
Kye stepped gracefully out of the car, where a line of maids and staff stood ready to welcome her. As she approached, they bowed in unison, then looked up—surprise flickering across their faces. Her graceful bow and warm greeting seemed to catch them off guard. "Good afternoon, everyone," she said with poise, her refined tone drawing a few puzzled glances. A maid stepped forward to take her bag, but Kye declined politely with a soft smile and continued toward the house. The front door was already open, saving her the trouble of knocking or ringing. As she stepped inside, a familiar, mouthwatering scent greeted her—the unmistakable aroma of pumpkin pudding. Without hesitation, she hurried to the kitchen, where she found her mother chopping vegetables. Grinning, she snuck up from behind and wrapped her arms around her. Her mother jumped slightly, then relaxed, recognizing the familiar voice. "I’ve missed you, Mom," Kye whispered, planting a gentle kiss on her cheek. Her mom let o

Chapter 3- The talk
Kylie’s POV I glanced at the clock on the wall. It was 5:30 a.m. I woke up way too early—even before my alarm went off. It’s not that I’m a morning person. I actually hate mornings. They’re stressful. But today’s different. I’m kind of excited about going to school. I know there’s nothing to really be excited about—I’ve heard school is stressful—but I want to experience it for myself. It’s definitely better than being homeschooled: waking up, binge-watching N*****x, waiting for the teacher to show up, learning for maybe an hour, eating, then going to bed. That’s freaking boring. Okay, enough about that. I’m in a crisis. Someone help me—anybody! I sighed in disappointment as I stared at my wardrobe. It’s not like I don’t have clothes to wear to school—I do. In fact, I have too many, and that’s the problem. I never imagined owning fancy, expensive clothes would become an issue. I don’t even know what to wear or how to disguise myself. Everything is just too convincing. I ruffled

Chapter 4- Door's eyes
Kylie’s POV "Kylie, I'm already leaving!" I heard Mom shout from downstairs. "I'm coming!" I shouted back as I grabbed my school bag and checked myself in the mirror. I gave myself a thumbs-up. I had no problem with how I looked today, and luckily, I didn’t have to stress over what to wear—thank God for school uniforms. I'm wearing a blue long-sleeve shirt with the school logo imprinted on it, paired with a black, knee-length pleated skirt. I added the school tie, which is blue with black stripes. The uniform actually looks nice on me. "Kylie, if you don’t come downstairs now, we’ll leave you!" Mom yelled again, making me snap out of my mirror session. "Just give me a minute, I’ll be down!" "A minute is too much. I give you just 20 seconds!" she shouted seriously. I rolled my eyes, slipped on my shoes, grabbed my blazer, tucked it into my bag, and rushed downstairs. Mom glared at me. "I wonder what you were doing up there. Let’s go." "Where’s Ken?" "He’s gone to school. He’s

Chapter 5- Four gorgeous specimen
Kylie’s POV "Even with your glasses, you still can't see," a voice said. It sounded manly, with a British accent. "I'm sorry," I mumbled, avoiding eye contact as I stepped out of the office. The only thing I caught was his blue eyes—and wow, they were pretty. But that’s not what I should be thinking about right now. I should be focusing on finding my class. My first period is History. Honestly, sometimes I wonder why we even study history. It’s all in the past—we should be focused on the future. I hate history. It’s boring as hell. Don’t even get me started on all those names and their so-called achievements that we’re supposed to memorize. Then you sit for the exam and boom—none of what you studied is there. Stressful. How do I find this class? I wish someone—like the way Anna showed up earlier—would just pop up again. Looks like luck is on my side. A girl came running towards me. She looked like she was in a hurry. When she reached me, I grabbed her hand to stop her. She glar

Chapter 6- Detention
Kylie’s POV I stepped into the biology class, and the teacher was already teaching. I greeted him with a smile, and he returned it warmly. Thankfully, there was an empty seat in the middle row — second seat. I slid in quickly and settled down. Suddenly, someone barged into the class and the whole room erupted with excitement. Girls squealed and tried to get his attention, lifting their skirts like that would actually work. He didn’t even spare them a glance. “Girls,” I muttered with a scoff, shaking my head. “Mr. Sanders, kindly enter the class like a normal student next time,” the teacher scolded. He was one of those popular boys Anna warned me about at the cafeteria. I could already tell. But he didn’t respond — just ignored the teacher. “Rude,” I mumbled under my breath as I bent down to get my books and pen. When I raised my head, I noticed all the girls glaring at me. Hard. I blinked. Was it directed at me or just a general mean-girl thing? “Hey, nerd…” someone said behi

Chapter 7-Blind jerk
Kylie's POV After Biology class, I headed straight to English—the last class of the day. Time flew by, and soon, the bell rang, signaling the end of school. Everyone began streaming out of class, including me. I stretched my body, feeling a wave of tiredness hit me. Guess it's time to go home. Oh shoot—detention. Ugh, all because of that annoying guy. "Are you going home now?" Anna asked from behind me. Spending time with her had made me memorize her voice. "Not yet. I earned a detention in Biology," I said with a chuckle. "Naughty on your first day, huh?" she teased, wiggling her eyebrows. "See you tomorrow." "Bye," I smiled and waved as she walked away. I reached into my bag for my phone and tried calling Mom to let her know about the detention, but the call didn’t go through. So, I sent a quick text instead and zipped my bag shut. I walked into the classroom where we were told to report for detention. And of course, he was already there. He was sitting near the window, a

Chapter 8- Men-in-black
Kylie's POV "Why?!" "Why are you screaming? You might wake the old man. Let him have some sleep," Ashton said with a smirk. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, then suddenly, an idea sparked in my head. I sat on the floor and started crying, wailing in fake sadness. "I know I told you guys not to ditch because that jerk pissed me off—sorry, Ashton—and I just don't have the courage to skip. I'm on a scholarship here. I can't afford to lose it, so I'm trying to be careful." Tears flowed down my cheeks. "So why do you want to ditch now?" Eric asked, clearly concerned. Aish... what do I say now? "Because... because... because," I stuttered through my fake tears. "Calm down and just tell us," the black-haired guy, Dexton, said softly. "My grandma... she's sick. They just called me. She's in the hospital, and I need to be with her." I sobbed dramatically. God, please tell my late grandma to forgive me for using her like this. And forgive me too for this lie. "I think I'm losing

Chapter 9-Telekinesis
Kylie’s POV Beep... Beep... Beep... That annoying sound kept pulling me back from the sweet arms of sleep. I groaned and rolled over on the bed. “Someone should turn that thing off,” I mumbled sleepily, fumbling around the nightstand for the alarm clock. Something fell with a thud. For a moment, I was satisfied—until the beeping continued. Beep... Beep... “Let me use my telekinesis powers—off, you stupid thing, off! I command you to...” The beeping stopped. “I don’t hear it anymore... I have powers!” I grinned to myself. Then something wet touched my face. “Wait... is it raining in here?” The dripping continued. I twitched my nose. “Mum... Is it raining inside, or am I outside? No, I’m definitely in my room—” Before I could finish, a full splash of water hit me like a tidal wave. I bolted upright, eyes wide, only to meet the grinning face of my annoying brother standing at the foot of my bed with an empty bowl in hand. “KEN!” He burst into uncontrollable laughter. M
