Samantha.

I felt like I was standing on a thin line. One wrong step, and I would fall.

I didn’t know if choosing Zephyr would make my life better… but I knew one thing for sure.

If Rowan found me again, I would drown in misery.

“I accept your condition.” I took a deep breath. “As long as you don’t hit me, I can endure living with you.”

My life was already a mess. I wasn’t expecting anyone to fix it.

“I will not hit you, Samantha,” Zephyr said firmly.

I looked away. “Of course, you can’t.”

Because of the blood oath. But what if he didn’t take it?

I didn’t want to know. Some answers were worse than the fear.

“Let’s take the blood oath,” Zephyr said, pulling a folding knife from his pocket.

My eyes widened. “Now? Right here?”

Before I could even prepare myself, he sliced his palm open. Blood dripped from his hand.

“What are you waiting for?” he said. “Didn’t you say your ex-husband is looking for you right now?”

I clenched my fist, forcing myself to stay steady.

This was it.

My future depended on this moment.

“Alright… let’s do it.” I raised my hand, letting him cut my palm.

Pain shot through me, and I bit my lip.

Even after everything Rowan had done to me… I still wasn’t used to pain.

Pain always reminded me of one thing.

That I wasn’t strong enough.

“It won’t last long,” Zephyr said, pressing our palms together.

Our blood mixed.

My hand trembled as the pain intensified. It felt like my skin was burning the moment his blood touched mine.

“I, Zephyr Lloyd, swear on my blood and soul to never harm you, Samantha. No matter the anger, no matter the pain, my hand will never rise against you.”

His voice was low. Steady.

“I vow to shield you from all danger—even from myself. And I vow to be loyal to you.”

My eyes widened.

“By blood, this oath is eternal.”

That… wasn’t what I expected.

I only wanted him not to hurt me.

But he promised more.

Protection.

Loyalty.

Why?

“I, Samantha Cole, swear on my blood and soul to be loyal to you, Zephyr Lloyd.” My heart pounded, but I didn’t hesitate. “By blood, this oath is eternal.”

As the final words left my lips, Zephyr tightened his grip on my hand.

“It’s done,” he whispered. “No one can break this.”

Then he suddenly lifted my hand to his mouth and licked the wound.

I almost jumped.

What the hell was that?!

His tongue traced over my skin, tasting my blood like a predator savoring its prey.

His gray eyes locked onto mine.

And for a moment. I couldn’t breathe.

“Shall we go somewhere else?” he asked, releasing my hand. The wound was already gone. “Though… I don’t mind staying in the car. It’s soundproof.”

Heat rushed to my face.

I knew exactly what he meant.

Marking me. Renewing the bond. But once an alpha marked his mate… there was no stopping what came after.

“I—No! Not in the car. And not in your house either.”

Not yet.

Not until Rowan’s mark was gone.

“A hotel, then,” Zephyr said.

***

I was never the type to take initiative in bed.

But Zephyr…

Zephyr made me want to push him down and take him right then and there.

The moment we stepped into the hotel room, his lips crashed onto mine.

I froze.

For a second, I almost pulled away.

Five years.

Five years of being a loyal wife.

I had never imagined I’d be kissing my husband’s uncle.

But then—

His scent wrapped around me.

Strong. Overwhelming.

My legs weakened.

Without realizing it, I wrapped my arms around his neck.

My back hit the wall as his lips devoured mine like I was something sweet—something addictive.

Rowan had always been rough.

Selfish.

He only cared about himself.

But Zephyr…

God.

The way his hand slid under my shirt, moving past my bra, gripping my breast.

That single action sent heat rushing through my entire body.

His fingers brushed my nipple, and I gasped, breaking the kiss.

Pleasure hit me so suddenly, so intensely... And yet, I wanted more.

“I don’t have time…” I murmured, my voice uneven. “Mark me… now… my husband… he can—”

He silenced me with another kiss.

And before I knew it, he had lifted me and carried me to the bed without breaking contact.

I pulled him down with me as I fell onto the mattress.

This time, I didn’t hesitate.

I opened my mouth, letting him deepen the kiss.

His tongue slid inside, claiming me completely.

He stripped my clothes away. My top, my skirt... Until all that remained was my red panties against my pale skin.

When we finally pulled apart, a thin strand of saliva stretched between us.

My body burned and i could already feel how wet I was.

“Mark me…” I whispered desperately. “Now.”

I didn’t care how desperate I sounded.

It was his fault.

His scent, his body... Everything about him drove me insane.

He turned me around, positioning me so my back faced him.

His fingers traced along my neck, slow… and deliberate. And i shivered.

My pulse raced under his touch as he moved my hair aside. Then i felt his lips brush against my skin. Soft and teasing.

“Are you sure?” his deep voice murmured near my ear. “Once I mark you… there’s no going back.”

I didn't even give him time to finish before nodding my head vigorously like some kid being asked if they wanted candy.

“I want you to mark me, Zephyr.”

My response was clear and without a hint of hesitation.

Zephyr sensed this, and he didn’t respond. Not with words.

Instead, his tongue slid along my neck, just right over the spot Rowan had marked me.

A shiver ran through my entire body.

Then... his teeth sank into my skin.

I gritted my teeth, bracing for the pain.

But it wasn’t just pain.

Something else came with it.

Something raw.

Primal.

A hunger that made my body ache for him even more.

He licked the blood that seeped from the bite.

And just like that. The pain disappeared.

The wound closed, leaving behind a fresh mark… one that completely covered Rowan’s.

“Zephyr…” I writhed against the bed, my thighs pressing together as heat pooled between them. “Please, fuck me.”

Samantha Zephyr’s words settled somewhere deep inside my chest. Quiet. Gentle. But powerful enough to make my throat tighten painfully. Strength. For so long, I had only ever associated strength with fighting. With being physically powerful enough to protect myself. Powerful enough to stop terrible things before they could happen. But the truth was painfully simple. Every single time danger appeared, someone else protected me. First Primrose. Then Zephyr. And now practically the entire Silverclaw Pack. Sometimes it made me feel fragile in the worst possible way. Like no matter how hard I tried, I was always the person standing behind everyone else while they bled for me. Zephyr must have noticed the thoughts moving behind my eyes because his expression softened even more. “You survived Rowan,” he said quietly. “Do you know how many people would’ve completely fallen apart after living through what you did?” I lowered my gaze. “I did fall apart,” I whispered. He shook

Samantha The moment Zephyr said he was going, my entire body reacted before my brain even had the chance to process it. “No.” The word flew out of my mouth so fast it startled even me. Suddenly everyone in the room was looking at me. I swallowed hard and tightened my grip on the blanket across my lap, hating how weak my voice sounded when I forced myself to speak again. “You just got out of the hospital,” I said quietly. “You inhaled all that poison gas. You were unconscious for hours, Zephyr.” My chest felt tight just thinking about it. “And Rowan’s unstable now,” I continued, trying to keep my emotions from spilling over. “You said it yourself. He’s desperate.” Zephyr looked at me calmly, but I could already see it in his eyes. He had already decided. That scared me more than anything. “I have to go,” he said gently. “No, you don’t.” I answered even faster this time. The room went completely silent. I dropped my gaze for a second, trying to steady myself before I em

Samantha Zephyr stood and opened the door. Immediately, Darren and Monica straightened awkwardly after getting caught spying. Both of them held shopping bags while trying very hard to look innocent. “You can come in,” Zephyr said flatly. “She said it’s okay.” Monica cleared her throat dramatically before marching inside first. “You scared us, you know,” she announced while placing several paper bags on the nearby table. Then she pointed proudly toward them. “I brought cake. And magazines. Mostly fashion disasters worn by celebrities.” A tiny smile tugged at my lips before I could stop it. “I figured insulting rich people’s outfits might improve your mood.” Another quiet laugh escaped me. Honestly... It helped more than I expected. “That actually sounds kind of fun.” Darren walked over next and carefully placed a thermos on the nightstand. “Tea from Layla,” he explained gently. “Apparently it helps with stress.” I blinked in surprise. “Layla came here?” He nodded.

Samantha When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was the harsh white light above me.For a few seconds, I just stared at it without moving. The smell of medicine filled the room, sharp and painfully clean, while the soft beeping of a monitor echoed beside my bed.Slowly, reality settled over me.The hospital. My body felt strangely light.Too light.Almost without thinking, my hand drifted toward my stomach. Then stopped. There was nothing there. No pain.No stitches. No bandages. Not even the soreness I expected after surgery.Just smooth skin beneath the thin hospital gown.I stared at my stomach for a long moment, my chest tightening painfully. As a supernatural being, I healed faster than humans ever could. Injuries that would leave normal people bedridden for weeks barely stayed on my body for days. The doctors had used a special anesthetic made specifically for people like me. It slowed our regeneration just enough for surgeries to be done safely. It worked a little like N

Samantha “We’ll survive this together,” Zephyr whispered firmly after a long while. His hand moved slowly through my hair.“We can try again someday.”His voice trembled slightly.“But right now… the only thing that matters to me is you.”Then he gently lifted my face again.“Which is why you need the surgery, Samantha.”I looked at him immediately, panic flashing through my swollen eyes. But Zephyr stayed calm.Patient.Soft.“I know how much this hurts,” he whispered. “I know letting go feels impossible.”His hand rested carefully against my cheek.“But keeping the baby inside you is hurting you now.”I bit my lip hard enough to hurt.“You did everything you could.”His voice cracked again before he forced himself to continue.“You loved our baby.”His thumb brushed another tear away.“And our baby would hate knowing you were destroying yourself like this.”Fresh tears slipped down my cheeks again, slower this time.Because deep down…I knew he was right.Still, my chest hurt unbea

Samantha Zephyr did not speak for a very long time. And somehow, the silence hurt me more than if he had shouted. After Darren brought us to the hospital, the first thing he did was order a full examination for me.Blood tests.Internal scans. An ultrasound to check on the baby.At first, everyone believed things would be okay.My body had started healing the moment I drank the antidote. The wounds that had been rotting were already closing, and my recovery happened much faster than anyone expected. So naturally, they thought the baby would recover too.But the second Darren performed the ultrasound, the entire room went silent. No heartbeat. No movement.Nothing.The baby had already started decaying inside my body. The infection from my deteriorating wounds had spread through my bloodstream long before Zephyr found the antidote. By the time the medicine healed me, it was already too late.I refused to accept it.I cried and begged Darren to save my baby.Anything.Please.There had

I was so tired that I accidentally fell asleep in Zephyr’s arms. The worst part? He didn’t even wake me up or carry me to his bedroom. When I finally woke up, it was already a new day. I rubbed my temple as I slowly opened my eyes, feeling slightly dizzy from sleeping too long. The unfamiliar

Eleanor’s words hit like cold water being poured over Zephyr’s head. She sneered at him—and at me—her gaze filled with disgust. I tightened my grip on the chair. I had expected this. From the Lloyd family. From the Silver Claw Pack. But that didn’t mean I could accept being painted as some wi

As two weeks passed, I finally had to attend the hearing. I hadn’t expected Zephyr to come with me because of his busy schedule, but he decided to drop all his workload for one day to accompany me."You really don’t have to do this." I lowered my head and looked at my shoes on the ground. "Mr. Laws
