I didn't just stop at the living room.

Grabbing my car keys, I took the most low-key car and left the Villa.

Nobody would be able to recognize me and no paparazzi would even take notice.

I drove aimlessly around the city for several minutes, wishing it could somehow help calm my thoughts.

My heart is unsettled, and so is my mind and I couldn't help but compare the past and the present.

Jessica would always follow my instructions, but now she seemed to be forcing things to go her way.

With my mother's backing, she does everything she wants.

But, my mother has always supported her, and she was always obedient.

Is this caused by Grandpa's approval?

Why can't she take things slowly?

After driving for hours, I pulled over in front of a place I'd promised never to come back to.

But I could do with any kind of distraction at the moment. All I want is to just get rid of these frustrating thoughts.

Luckily it was already evening and the sky was dark.

Nobody would see me enter or exit the bar.

“Right. Our friendship will never end.” I smiled, returning my gaze to the sky. “But wait… don’t you have other friends as well?”“We’re not very close,” he replied. “You’re the only one I feel comfortable to share everything with. To put it simply, you’re like my best friend.”“Oh…” Warmth enveloped my heart. My smile widened. “Reminds me of Bonnie. She might be tough and crazy sometimes, but she’s the sweetest person I’ve ever met. She helped me overcome most of my challenges. Without her encouragement, I might not be here today.”“Mm,” Theo hummed in agreement. “I can tell that she’s very protective of you as well. She’s indeed a true friend.”Yeah. Bonnie is very protective of me. She’d stood up for me most of the time and even got into fights for my sake. How did he know, though? As if reading my thoughts, Theo continued. “Remember Mike Kensington? She once stormed our booth at a bar and threatened to end his life if he didn’t stop stalking you.”Oh, Mike! How could I forget that

Is he really okay with it? I didn’t expect him to agree so easily, after all, he wanted a different thing. Somehow, I felt pity towards him. But this is the best solution for both of us. If I cannot push him away, we’re better off being friends. “So, my friend.” His smile widened. “What do you say we go shopping? Dave needs new clothes.” He actually, didn’t. I bought him everything some days ago. But it would be a good idea to go shopping. Mom and Dave won’t return soon, and it feels so awkward staying alone with him in the house. “Sure, my friend.” I smiled back. “Let me get ready.” We not only went shopping for clothes, but also stopped at the mall to buy groceries. It was a lot more fun than I’d expected, causing me to lose track of time. And contrary to my expectations, Theo blended in quite well. But despite wearing a simple shirt and trousers, he stood out among the sea of people inside the mall, and most of the ladies gawked at him shamelessly. “Oh, he’s so handsome. I’v

  • Divorced To Steal His Heart    288. Being Friends

Theo once stated something similar. Am I really afraid of falling for him? There’s no doubt that I hope Ethan returns someday. But how long will it take for him to come back? What if he never returns?“Anyway, I gotta go. Need to speak with my designer about changing the wedding dress’s color to red. Have you seen a red wedding dress before, Olivia?” Bonnie cackled as if cooking up a sinister plan. “Adios. Will talk to you later.” She waved her hand and ended the video call, leaving me contemplating what she said. I can’t deny it. She might be right. Maybe those are actually my fears. Why am I afraid of falling for Theo? Is it because I have a strong feeling that Ethan will eventually come back?“Olivia, are you in there?” A knock sounded from the door, interrupting my thoughts. Hearing Theo’s voice, I put the phone away and stood up from the bed, wondering what he wanted. Maybe he finally needs my help with something he couldn’t handle and wouldn’t admit that he could not. But

Theo looked a bit disappointed as I stood up from my chair. “This is my first time making pasta. You should have a taste.”“Hehe,” I snickered. I’m not ready to die yet. “Pasta? Is this pasta?” Mom scooped some of it with a fork, staring at the thread-like watery black thing. “I never knew pasta could be made this way.”Despite realizing it was pasta and not some weird food from another planet, she still went ahead and tasted it–“Bah!” Mom spat it out, her expression turning dark. She dropped the fork and slammed her fists on the table. “This is clearly poison. Are you planning to kill me so you can escape your punishments!?”“Does it taste bad?” Theo asked, looking confused and worried. “No, it tastes like heaven! Why don’t you have a try?” Mom pushed her plate towards him, and Theo hesitated. He picked up a fork, scooped some of the black thing in it, and tasted it. In the next second his expression twisted and he grabbed a tissue and spilled it on it.“I’m sorry, Mrs. Barton. I

  • Divorced To Steal His Heart    286. Making Dinner

“Great. You'd better get started, because I’m starving and there’s no food in the house. Go to the kitchen and make dinner!”At Mom’s instruction, Theo’s eyes widened for a split second. “Hurry up!” She added. “I give you ten minutes to get the food ready.” With that said, Mom picked up the broken wall-clock and went to her room. Theo stood up as well. He didn’t waste a second and was already rolling up his sleeves. “What are you doing?” I frowned. He wasn’t going to enter the kitchen to make dinner, was he? Besides, Mom and I ate at a restaurant before coming home. Dave also had something to eat because there was leftover food which he must have microwaved. “We’re not really hungry. Mom didn’t mean what she said.”“It’s okay. I still have to cook to make her happy,” Theo replied, his expression turning calm as if he’d figured a way out. Does he really know how to cook?“You don’t have to do those tasks, Theo.” I stood up, blocking his path as he turned for the kitchen. “You know w

  • Divorced To Steal His Heart    285. Her Conditions

“Uhmm, Mom…” I butted in. “Actually, Theo and I… We’re just– We’re just starting over. Is it necessary to–”“Stop trying to stand up for him. Even if you beg, I won’t give you guys my blessing easily.” Mom cut me off. “And don’t be naive. This is for your own good as well. If he doesn’t prove to me how much he deserves you, forget about gaining my approval.”My helplessness increased. I stared at Theo, signaling him to do something. But while I’m worrying about saving his damn ass, he ignored me and dived right into Mom’s trap.“She’s right, My Love. I should prove to my Mother-in-law how much I deserve you.” He smiled, his eyes glinting with mischief. Urgh! Seriously, I just want to punch him in the face.“I’m not your Mother-in-law yet!” Mom snapped. “First of all, you have to gain my approval before addressing me that way. And if you fail, promise you’ll leave my daughter alone if I ask you to.”“I won’t fail–”“Just promise me!”Theo sighed resignedly. “I promise if I fail, I’ll
