I woke up to my blaring alarm clock ringing on the nightstand beside the bed where Anabel had slept. I still used an alarm clock - an old habit that smartphone technology hadn't managed to break. I stretched my arm over her and turned off that noisy little thing.

"Cell phones have alarm functions!" she commented without moving beside me.

"Hmm, I have some old habits." I kissed her face, and she rubbed her body against mine and turned over.

"It's a cute little gadget." She looked at me with half-closed eyes and a dazzling smile.

"Did you do what women do in those romantic comedy movies?" She looked at me as if she hadn't understood my question. "Did you wake up early and get up, comb your hair, wash your face, brush your teeth, put on makeup, and then get back in bed?"

"No," she answered, laughing.
