LOGINI followed Daphne out of the dining room and she sighed.
“You have some dangerous guys on your tail” she stated as we walked.
“What do you mean?” I was confused.
“Cillian, he's royalty among vampires, a pureblood at that” she explained but I still stare confused.
“He's strong and deadly, students have gone missing because of him” she narrated and I swallowed.
“Raphael?” I asked and she paused.
“So you do know him” she stated more than asked.
“We're not friends, he sits behind me in class” I admit.
“He's one creature we don't fully understand afterall, he's the only one of his kind” she replied.
“He's different” I stated and she nodded.
“I want to show you something” she said walking towards a side of the school I had never been to before.
It's an entirely different building, situated at a hidden place.
We walk to a large door and there's a guard standing in front, he has a pale complexion and there's a stoic look on his face.
“Students aren't allowed here” he states, glaring down at us.
“We just want to see the hierarchy,” Daphne explained.
“You'll need a signed letter from an authority” he replied and Daphne sighed.
“We won't take long, just a few minutes” she added and I noticed the guard clench his fist.
“Leave, now” his stoic expression becomes even harder and I can't help but notice the hostility coming from the guard.
Daphne stared at him hard and she began singing.
“Leave or I'll use force” he warned, coming closer
“Daphne let's leave” I grabbed her hand to pull her but she suddenly sang louder. Her voice was piercing and sounded ethereal. She raised her hands to my ears and continued singing.
I notice the guard stagger back like he was in pain,
Daphne released my ears and I found the guard on the floor trembling and rolling as blood dripped from his nose.
“Let's go” she said but I stared at her in fear, and her ice blue eyes looked even sharper and I noticed the slits in them. She was a creature I would have not expected to see. She was a siren.
I seemed to have forgotten that she was also a monster. Then what was Phoebe?.
“Avery” Daphne called out,I stared for a while still spaced out.
“You don't have to be scared, I won't hurt you” she sighed and began walking forward. I walk past the convulsing guard and follow after her.
We walk through the door and we're immediately met with darkness. The lights of the room came on one by one, in an odd way. Portraits of different people rested on each side of the walls, arranged in a certain manner.
Daphne moved forward and I walked behind her noticing the portraits of different people I believe. We came across one very large tree that seemed to be a form of family tree.
“The dragons are the oldest” Daphne began, raising her hand to point at the picture of a dragon head which stood above the rest.
“They were the first creatures and the only ones naturally created, the rest of us were born out of something”
She moved her hand to the second picture of a creature with red eyes and long fangs.
“Next comes the vampires, they've been alive for centuries, if not a millenia.” she explained scanning the images.
“Then come the werewolves, although most believe them to be on equal footing with the vampires, but not the purebloods” she narrated and I listened in awe.
“What of Dhampirs?” I asked curious about my fake identity.
Daphne stifled a laugh and lowered her hands to the bottom of the chart like portraits. “Second to the last on the hierarchy, the last are humans”
I rolled my eyes in annoyance, as I realised why people always laughed when I said what I was.
Daphne walked past the tree, moving deeper into the halls, skipping many pictures and portraits I wanted to ask her about. I'm staring at the oddly human faces as I walk by and I swear one of them turns to look at me. I squeal and rush to Daphne's back.
“Hush, some of their ghosts are locked up here” she announces and colour drains from my face.
“What do you mean?” I drowned in fear. They were ghosts in this room?
“Don't think about it, they won't come for you if you haven't done anything wrong” Daphne waved off like she had just said the most normal thing.
We came in front of a larger frame picture.
“The Royal family” Daphne declared and I'm about to admire but I noticed her eyes narrow and there seemed to be an emotion written on her face that I couldn't Identify.
“They rule and head over all the monsters, the King and Queen and their two children” Daphne narrates and I turn to the picture, observing with a shocked look as I stare at the figures in it.
Ember…… I had known she was the daughter of the dragon King but the other person had caught me off guard.
Lucian.
Lucian was Ember's brother, he was royalty.
I thought back to the non-chalant bad boy and envisioned him as a prince.
I turned to Daphne about to speak but the look in her eyes made me step back. She glares down at Ember who has her creepy smile in the portrait as she stands next to her father.
Daphne's eyes hold one emotion—hate.
“D….Daphne” I called and she shut her eyes and slowly turned back to me taking a deep breath.
“What's wrong?” I asked, the look on her face a moment ago, looked like she was capable of murder.
“Nothing, let's go” She replied and walked further down. I still stare at the picture as I pass and observe Lucian in it. He's dressed in classic gold and red royal clothing, his warm Amber eyes match the rest of his family's and he's wearing his usual bored look like he doesn't want to be there.
I suddenly remember Ember telling me about her younger brother also being here and a class ahead of her. I had wanted to ask her more before Daphne had dragged me away. So they were siblings.
Daphne stopped before another set of pictures but these people were not together, they were arranged in a different order, they all had one thing in common, their red eyes. I noticed only one familiar face there, it was Cillian. He was dressed in an attire that didn't seem like our time, his hairdo was also different. I began to wonder if it was him or his great grandfather.
“Cillian is an old vampire, he has been alive for some centuries” Daphne said casually and I raise my eyes to meet hers
“He’s in the 5th generation of vampires” Daphne informed me and I tried to wrap my mind around the handsome young guy being centuries old.
“Why are you showing me all these?” I asked Daphne and she turned to me, she looked at me for a few seconds and I swear I noticed her pupils change to slits before reversing back completely.
“Someone is coming”
“Wouldn’t that make things harder” Someone asked.“On the contrary, it would make things faster” Another said.“We’ll split up in twos” Raphael said with a dull tone.“Perfect” Jenna smiled clinging even closer to him.“If you were smart enough, you would realise there are specifically different creatures on our team and of course that would have to do with the clues, so I refuse your suggestion, happy?” Cillian asked and this time Raphael narrowed his own eyes.“Let’s try to decipher what this means” Cillian said turning to the rest of us.“What if the two means second floor?” I asked and heard a snot and then full blown laughter.“How does that even make sense” Jenna laughed.“Go on” Cillian said ignoring her.“I mean, the second floor is usually isolated and all” I shrugged.“Let’s check it then” Cillian said and the house members grumbled but still moved forward.“Look at you using your little brain sweet apple” Cillian praised patting my head and I glared at him making him laugh.
The next week it was finally time for the Founder’s festival which was apparently lasting a whole week, the school had been seriously decorated and there was a large banner declaring the start of the festival. They had even gone as far as erecting a statue and when I asked Daphne she said they only erected the statue during the festival and always took it down, apparently it was the founder’s wish.I was currently reading what was on the statueEldric ValdarisFounder of Bridgeford highFounded in 1810Birth- 1415-1912- DeathThe man lived over 400 years and then died, I wondered what kind of creature, he had been. I stared at the statue. It was of him when he looked to be in his forties had he been human.I raised my hand to touch the statue and I immediately pulled back and winced. I looked at my palm and noticed it was red, almost like the statue was too hot to touch.I stared at the statue again and began to walk away.I looked at the school building in awe.“So bridgeford high wa
The next morning as I brushed my hair to go for assembly, my room door slammed open causing me to drop my brush and squeal a bit.“What the hell!” I shouted thinking it was Phoebe who came back drunk again but when I turned around my eyes widened.“Daphne!” I screamed and jumped on her, she caught me in a hug but almost immediately dropped me down.“You’ve caused me some serious trouble” She said with a small smile and her voice was badly cracked.“I’m sorry, what did they do to you?” I asked while examining her, in just a few days she had slimmed down, she had bruises and she reeked but I wasn’t telling her that yet.“Let’s just say, I wouldn’t be able to sing for a while” Hearing her say that made me frown deeper and I genuinely began to wonder what they had done to her.“Go for assembly, I need to have a deep bath, I’ll see you later” She said and I nodded, I squeezed her in a hug again and left the room.I quickly head to the assembly ground, where everyone is lining up. My mind g
When I come to, I’m in my room on the bed. I looked around the room and discovered that I was alone. My mind travelled back to what happened as I tried to recall how I ended up here.I remembered the solitary confinement and then the headmistress’ warning, my eyes widened again as I realised she had threatened to kill me much earlier than she planned, had I continued provoking her.Ember, I was about to enter the dining room after her when my vision became blurry, someone caught me before I fell, someone…Raphael?I remembered his face being the last thing I saw but the image was blurry, or was that a dream, how did I end up here then or did he carry me here?I was asking these questions to no one in particular. I had a slight headache and as I adjusted my position, my stomach began to grumble. I was still yet to have dinner, I had a feeling it was very late. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and stood up from the bed.Daphne was in solitary confinement and I never knew where Ph
“Avery, you’re safe okay” she assured, “Here” She handed me her gold key.“You can hold onto it, until we return safely," she said and I nodded and without thinking, I took a deep breath and jumped inside. Not long after Ember jumped inside too, closing the door and we were met with total darkness.“Hold on” I heard Ember moving but couldn’t see her, suddenly the place was illuminated as fire spewed from her mouth until a torch lit where we were. The place looked like some medieval dungeon. We walked down and saw different metal doors where we couldn’t even see who was inside.Ember touched each door closing her eyes and stopped at one.She opened her eyes and turned to me, “She’s here”I made my way to the door where Ember was and slotted in her golden key and sure enough the key opened the door.Ember held the torch at the door and I entered, I found a figure crouched down on the dirty ground and noticing the lights and footsteps, she looked up.A frown marred my face as I took in t
Lucian sat at the front seat and dropped his back on the desk, not even bothering to greet anyone. Didn't he have friends or his friends weren’t the type to be in detention.I hear footsteps coming from the back and Marie passes me and heads towards the front seat, particularly towards Lucian. She stops in front of him and plops down on his desk, pushing his bag aside, her uniform had ridden up and her fair thighs were showing.I couldn’t really make out what she was saying but he was responding and there seemed to be a whole conversation. She eventually nodded and left, walking back to her seat but she wasn’t smiling. The rest of the detention went on quite boringly and the teacher never came back, making me wonder who’s homeroom teacher was.I packed my things and my book of doodles which was all I was doing for the past three hours into my bag. Immediately after the time elapsed, Lucian walked out of the class and people began to leave one by one.I walked out of the class and some
It's darker now and I become more conscious of my environment, what if those girls came out of the shadows again?Thankfully we safely made it to the end of the halls and unto the stairs.“Thank you sir” I said with a curt nod and he stared at me, then turned to look at the top stairs before walking
I successfully made it to the second floor, the sun had already gone down and the evening breeze was cool. I stared down the hallway, a feeling of ptsd hitting me. But I knew I had to move, I already had classes here this morning, how hard could it be?I heard the clicking of a door and I froze, th
“Take a seat anywhere, Avery” he said gesturing with his hands and I moved glad to be away from the spotlight and try to decide on the three empty seats. I spot one towards the window and hurry towards it. I recognised the face of the person sitting behind the seat, it was the guy with stormy eyes
After dinner, my roommates and I began heading to the other block, along with some students, while others stayed behind. As we climbed down to the second flight of stairs, I couldn't help but stare into the hallway, all the lights were back on.“Walk fast” Daphne called in front of me and I doubled
