Chapter 5

I didn’t know why he was calling me to the office, but I quickly nodded. I did not want to make the situation worse.

Hopefully, it wasn’t to talk about all the mistakes I had previously made today. Did the customers complain?

We walked into his office. I stood awkwardly, looking around. He nodded his head toward the chairs.

“Take a seat.” I hesitantly sat down as he sat on the front of his desk looking at me.

“Mr. Alber. Tell me. What is your problem today?” I looked everywhere but his eyes, trying to come up with a good excuse. But my mind once again betrayed me as it went blank.

“Is it perhaps because of yesterday’s event?”I snapped my head up looking at him in surprise. Did he know? Did he see me yesterday? Or am I just overthinking it?

“What do you mean?” I asked, acting dumbfounded. He smirked.

“Don’t play me for a fool. You were at the club last night.”

He saw me!

“You must have mistaken me for someone else Mr. Dome.” He shook his head.

“No. I know I am not mistaken. I smelled your scent.” I raised an eyebrow.

“My scent? What are you talking about?” He stood up walking closer to me til he was right in front of me. I sat back in the chair, as he leaned over me.

“Oh, I’m sure you know very well what I’m talking about?” He breathed out, putting his fangs on show. I gasped with wide eyes.

He smirked again. Ok, that smirk was starting to become a little irritating. What should I do? Should I continue trying to play dumb or should I tell him the truth? I sighed heavily. I guess there is no point in me continuing to keep lying.

“Alright, fine. I was there, ok. What are you gonna do now? Eat me? Bite me?” He scoffed, standing up straight, and looking down at me.

“You do know we don’t pierce our fangs into every living thing with blood.” I chuckled angrily.

“Well, evidently my best friend was an exception. He was admitted to the hospital because of you.” He rolled his eyes.

“I didn’t do anything! I haven’t even been to that club for a couple of weeks. I just own the place.”

“Well, as the owner, don’t you think you should keep your PEOPLE in check!”

“You don’t know anything! That's the only reason why I was even there yesterday. To check up on the place. There had previously been an attack from rivals of mine. I was there to make sure they wouldn’t try anything again. So stop assuming!” I froze.

“Rivals?...An attack?... When?” He glared at me.

“It happened the day before yesterday. A lot of people died. And now that I think about it. Tony did mention a human man helping us. He saved a lot of people.”

“Tony?” I asked.

“Do you know him?” I looked up at him again.

“No. Not really. John just mentioned him to me.” He nodded in understanding as his anger seemed to simmer down a little. We sat in silence as neither of us knew what to say next.

“If there isn’t anything else, I would like to get back to work.” I stood up to leave his office.

“Wait!” I turned back looking at him in confusion.

“Are you going to the hospital?”

“Umm, yes. Why do you ask?.”

“I want to accompany you to see your friend.” I looked at him in surprise.

“What?! No.”

“Please. I just want to explain the situation and thank him. I promise I’ll leave right after.” I eyed him suspiciously.

“Yeah, no. I still don’t trust you.” He scoffed.

“What! Come on. I already told you my people didn’t do it. It was my rivals ok?” I turned around ignoring him.

“No,” I muttered one last time before walking out of his office.

I finally finished my work shift. I was heading to Crown Ridge to check up on John.

He had been in a lot of pain lately. The nurses still give him pain meds to numb most of the pain, but it takes a while for them to take effect. I stopped by the Mexican restaurant down the street first. When I got there, I went straight to the receptionist's desk to sign in.

I walked down the hallway and entered room 138. I quietly closed the door behind me, dimming the bright light. Still being mindful of his sensitivity.

“I brought your favorite. One burrito loco, two tacos, brown rice, and a Dr.Pepper.” He smiled at me.

“Thank you”

I sat all his food on the bed table in front of him. Helping him sit up comfortably.

“Of course no problem. “

We sat there making small talk while eating our food. Until there was a knock on the door. I looked at John.

“Is it the nurse?” He shrugged.

“I'm not sure. The nurse came in to give me my meds just before you came in.”

I slowly walked to the door. Opening it to see the one person I didn't want to see.

“What are YOU doing here?!”.
