New Orleans was always beautiful in October.

Devyn stood in front of her childhood home with a lump in her throat. She hadn’t been back here since she was 17. This was at the height of her father’s abuse: she started looking more like her mother and he was looking at her differently. She hopped from shelter to shelter until she eventually turned 18 and started waitressing to earn her way through life - and she hasn’t stopped. Devyn walks up towards the house with her only luggage bag and poised her hand to knock.
