Tricia

Tonight is a full moon. Time for hunting. Since I was young, my parents taught me everything I needed to learn, from hunting to defending myself against the enemies. Of course, they expected so much from me. Even Alpha William knows my impressive records for hunting.

I belong to the most savage pack, the Hunter of Hunters, aka the Bone-Reavers. Everyone fears us. They bow their heads when our pack passes by. Our alpha doesn't show mercy to anyone who refuses to bow their heads. He cut them off. Call it cruel, but this is what makes us famous and respected, and because of this, our pack thrives.

“Behold! One of the most amazing hunters of our pack: Tricia Spruce. It's your time to shine!” James announces at the rostrum.

I looked at my parents; they are both betas of the pack, and so am I. They showed a proud smile, and I returned it. I promise I'd never disappoint them.

Walking towards the platform, I couldn't understand why my heart was pounding in my chest as if it were going to explode. Usually, I feel calm about my transformation, but tonight's different. I'm not calm at all, as if something's going to happen.

As the full moon came out from the clouded skies, I felt the beasts inside of me trying to get out. I released it. My bones cracked and my flesh expanded. I endured the pain for a while until I fully transformed into my animal form.

But I lost control over myself. I'm seeing everyone from a bloody lens. It reeks of menace. My bestial instincts made me growl and leap toward the spot where Luna Asfara was sitting. Everyone stood up and screamed, “Oh no!”

Oh shit! Oh shit!

I cursed in my mind repeatedly, trying to regain control over my body. I indeed got it back, but it was too late when I returned to my human form. I have killed the Alpha's wife by cutting her head off with my claws.

“What the fuck!” Alpha William cursed, his brown eyes filled with fury. “What did you do to my wife?”

“I... I'm... I'm sorry.” My lips quivered. Fear grew within me.

Alpha William clenched his fist and threw a punch to my face. The bone on my neck cracked, and blood streamed down my nose. I don't have the courage to look at Alpha William's eyes. I'm such a failure.

“William, no!” My mother rushed towards us. She stood up between me and Alpha William.

I don't really know what she's doing. Standing up for me against the alpha means she can get herself killed. Alpha William looks at me with clenched chin; the veins on his neck seem to expand, then at my mother.

“Are you trying to betray me, Melina?” Alpha William asked.

“Ple... please... Spare my daughter…” My mother begged.

“Don't tell me that after she killed my wife. An eye for an eye, Melina,” Alpha William affirmed. “Now step aside if you don't want to die.”

But my mother didn't move. She spread her arms to protect me.

Infuriated, Alpha William raised his clenched fist. But before he could throw it at my mother's face and send her flying a hundred meters away, my father arrived to our rescue.

“Don’t do this, William…” my father said, standing beside the alpha, touching his arm. “They are my family.”

Alpha William remained in that position for a while. Then he took a deep breath and seemed to calm down as he moved his fist down and turned to face my father. “Henry, your daughter killed my wife. What do you expect me to do?”

Although we are just betas, my father is known for his prowess as a punisher of the pack. Some of the pack members say that he's even better than Alpha William. That's why everyone fears him.

“Let's talk about this, William,” my father said. He didn't give me a glance, but I knew he was very disappointed with me.

“There's nothing to talk about, Henry. You know the rules. Your daughter has to die,” Alpha William replied.

“I understand your rage, William, but there must be an alternative. Rules are made to be broken, and I don't want my daughter to die,” my father said.

My heart melted in my chest when I heard my father say those words. He might be strict, cruel, and overprotective sometimes, but now I realize how much he loves me. He wouldn't go against Alpha William if he didn't care about me. My mother loves me too. I'm such a failure to my parents. They did everything they could to raise me well, but all I did was disappoint them.

Alpha William remained silent for a while as if thinking. Then he finally said, "I think there is. But you'll have to fight me, and whoever wins has the right to decide what to do with your daughter."

My father didn't reply right away. We all know how strong Alpha William is, and going against him would be like a suicide attempt. I was shocked when my father accepted the challenge. I don't know why he had to do that when he could have just let me die.

Our pack members have gathered around the rostrum to watch the duel. My father and Alpha William stood on the opposite side of the platform, blood boiling, ready to kill each other. I could see how angry Alpha William is at my father for defending me against him.

James stood between them. “Alright, so let the duel begin,” he announced and moved down the platform.

My father and Alpha William growled as they lunged toward each other. Everyone screamed as Alpha William threw continuous killer punches to my father's face, who returned the punches at full speed and strength. Blood sprinkled everywhere until my father fell to the ground.

“What's up, Henry? Are you giving up already?” Alpha William asked, wiping the blood from his nose. “Don't you want to save your daughter? Come on! Get up and fight me!”

My father kicked Alpha William's leg so hard that he fell down on the ground face first. Then they wrestled against each other. Alpha William got my father cornered and punched his face, blood splashing everywhere.

“Oh my! Henry…” My mother put her hands on her mouth.

We arrived at the city before midday. My eyes felt so heavy as if they were going to fall, and my stomach was growling from hunger. I didn't sleep well last night because of those mosquitoes and ants. I'm sure Aaron's also starving. There are a lot of moving things around, resembling a buckwagon, but they are more advanced. "Those are cars," Aaron said, giving me a slight nudge. "Come on, we should sell this horse first. We can't keep it with us if we want to stay here. We'll have to pay for a farrier and vet."There are a lot of new things around I haven't seen before. The streets are busy with cars. Many people are moving back and forth on the sides of the tall buildings. It's so noisy, and the air is thick with pollution.I followed Aaron to the horse buyer's house. He negotiated with the man while I waited for him outside. Finally, Aaron stepped out of the door with a bag full of cash."Good grief, he finally agreed with the price. Come, let's grab something to eat." Aaron held my

I lost control over myself again. My body ran and leaped towards Aaron. I'm seeing him from a bloody lens. He's dangerous, like how I saw Luna Asfara before I killed her. I needed to stop myself before I could make the same mistake again, but I felt so powerless over my wolf. I don't want to see Aaron die in my own hands, but I can't even close my eyes.Even though we've just met, Aaron is the first man who made me feel this way. It is as though I've found home after being banished from the pack. I can be who I am around him. He might not be perfect and acts like a kid sometimes, but I like him for who he is, and I never thought I'd be the reason for his death.Thoughts stopped racing in my head when my wolf jumped above Aaron and attacked those wolves who were trying to kill Nathan. Fiercely, my claws scratched and threw them away one by one while growling until they all ran away and escaped. Then I turned towards Aaron. The blood from my vision is already gone, as if there's no long

Aaron's question made me feel guilty. I want to do what Hellen asked me to do, but I don't want Aaron to hate me and distance himself. He already felt betrayed that his mother didn't tell him the truth. I shouldn't make it more difficult for him, so I decided to spill the beans."It's not that I'm hiding something. I'm just respecting your mother's request," I said."Tell me about it. I won't be mad," he replied."You really want to know?" I asked, thinking about what Hellen told me: how Aaron acts when he's mad. It's not that I'm afraid of him; I just don't want to cause trouble."Of course. She's my mother. I have the right to know whatever is going on," he said.I sighed before saying, "Your mother asked me to take care of you once she's gone. She's going to pay me her savings instead of using it to cure her illness.""What?" Aaron exclaimed. "How could she do that? I'm not a child anymore who needs a nanny. She should have thought about herself first.""She loves you so much that

Hellen was right. I know nothing about how she felt. Also, my parents did the same. Even though I've disappointed them, they still think about my safety. They did everything they could to save me.After eating our food, Hellen and I went back home. On our way, I've been thinking about what she asked me. I don't really know if I can do it, but I think it's worth a try. I can not only earn money to support myself but also experience how it is to be human.I sighed as I lay down on my bed. Looking at my palms, I remembered what I did to Luna Asfara. I don't know how I could kill her. I've never done such a thing before. Something must be wrong with my wolf. All I know is that it's dangerous to transform, for I might not be able to control myself again. I don't want to hurt innocent people.I held the pendant that my mother gave me before I left. It made me remember the memories I had with my parents when I was young. How time flies by. One moment we were happy together, then in just a bl

I swung my legs off the bed and tidied up my bedsheets and pillows before going to the kitchen. The woman was sitting by the table, having coffee. She's so kind. A lot of things happened last night, and I forgot to ask her name."Good morning, ma'am," I said, approaching her."Morning, Tricia. How's your sleep?" she asked."Great. Thanks for the soft bed," I replied, though her question made me remember the wet dream I've had."I'm glad to know that. Want some coffee?" She asked, standing up. "By the way, I'm going to the market today to buy some things, and I'll need some help. Can you come with me?""Of course I can. That's the least I can do." I sat down in the chair. "What's your name, by the way?""Just call me Hellen." She offered a warm smile, stirring the coffee in a mug with a spoon. "Here's your coffee.""Thanks." I sipped the black coffee. It smells incredible and tastes great, though it's the first time I've tasted it. Werewolves aren't fond of coffee, and I only drank tea

I guess they are right. I did not expect it would be this hard to lie to someone you find attractive, especially when he looks into my eyes. I feel like he is undressing me. All the facade and walls I have put around me crumbled down, and I lay there helplessly naked.Come on, Tricia. You can't let a stranger do that to you. You're a beta; you should have the power to resist, especially with a human, and yet... Yet I felt so vulnerable no matter how much I reminded myself."The truth is, I came from the world of werewolves. I've done something unforgivable, and they banished me," I said, giving up all my inhibitions. I don't care if he would laugh or make fun of me anymore. I have nothing to lose anyway.Aaron didn't say anything but looked into my eyes, as if trying to find any signs of lies. "You don't seem to be lying," he said, still holding my eyes. "And you look pretty despite what you're wearing."Wait. Did he just compliment or insult me? I looked at my arms. I'm wearing this
