ANMELDENMarcus waited at the secret cottage for a long time, expecting Adriana, but no Adriana came. The second bell had been rung minutes ago, and he still waited for her, even when he already knew she wasn't going to be coming. The third bell would soon be rung, and it would be foolish to come now.Marcus came out of the cottage and paced around, and the third bell was rung.Adriana wasn't coming. He felt disappointed, but she must have a good reason why she hadn't come.Marcus waited for a few minutes before he finally gave up and turned back to the palace. He saw the patrol officers moving out of the palace gates for their usual routine, and there were twice as many as before. The papers were already out, but there hadn't been much of an uproar as he had expected. He walked back to his chamber after making a mental note of finding out what went wrong.Marcus pushed the door open, and he paused at the door as he stared into his room. There were flower petals on the ground, and scented cand
"Hello, sister. Long time no see." Adriana clenched her teeth as Tari came forward.Tari glanced at the soldiers standing in awe."Be gone. You are no longer needed here." They knew who she was because they were Rossi's men. They bowed and left the alley. Then she glanced back at Adriana."You really have some nerve coming back. If I were you, I would have hidden away in the dark like a little puppy."Adriana clutched her ribs, waiting for her wolf to heal her. "That's what you are," Adriana said through the pain. "You hid like a little puppy all those years in the palace, working as nothing but a slave."Tari's expression cracked for a second, but the smirk came back on."You really think I hid myself? You all were just too blind to see what was right before you. Well, look at me now. I am the High Chancellor.""Not for long." Adriana stood up from the ground. Her ribs were already healed. "Let's get done with this, okay? I have somewhere else to be." Adriana flexed her hands.Tar
Maxwell and Xavier were in the war room when a guard came in with the paper."Your Majesty, we found this spreading around the realm." The guard handed him the paper. "They had been delivered last night."Maxwell narrowed his eyes. "Last night? Why didn't anyone report it or catch anyone?""We didn't see anyone, Your Majesty.""So how were the papers delivered?""The people said they found the papers in the house, and we were stationed outside their doorsteps.""So you are saying these anonymous people were able to outsmart all of you."The guard bowed his head. "My apologies, Your Majesty.""What does the paper say?" Xavier asked, and Maxwell finally read the contents of the paper. He had expected words of Kallias. Maybe something that could push up his plan, but it was entirely different.|A WOMAN WAS CONDEMNED FOR BEING A SORCERESS A YEAR AGO, BUT ANOTHER WAS ACCEPTED, EVEN WHEN WE ALL KNEW HER POWERS WERE OBVIOUSLY DARK MAGIC. By the time Tari arrived at the scene, Adriana was long gone. But Tari could still feel her energy; it surrounded the place. No one was there, and only the bones and scraps of clothing remained as evidence of what had happened.Tari went over to the bones and crouched down. She picked up a bone and sniffed it.It smelt like fire. They had been burnt alive. It seemed Adriana was merging with Aurora. This was one of the powers she had envied in her sister. The flames that came out of her hands were captivating and powerful, but back then their mother had wanted to bind it.She had done it, but Aurora had unlocked it to save a boy. A boy that later turned out to be her mate.Tari tossed the bone back to the piles of bones, and her head turned as her eyes darted around. She stood up and walked around the place, but she couldn't sense the energy anywhere else, only the place where the bones were.Tari came back and stared at the house in front of it. She walked up to the house and knocked.
Adriana sat beside Kallias' bed. She squeezed the water from the towel, then used it to gently wipe his face. She wiped his brows, his closed eyes, down to his nose and his chin. Then his parched lips.It was always hard for her to keep her emotions in check whenever she gave him little baths. But she wouldn't let Silas or Sonya do it.She wanted to be the one to take care of him.Her hand drifted down to his neck, then further down to his bare chest. Adriana's eyes lingered on the scar at the left side of his chest, and she remembered how the sword had been driven deep into his chest.Adriana's hand went still, and her fingers tightened on the towel. The memory was still fresh in her mind, and anytime it replayed, she had felt a blind rage, but also mingled with guilt.Guilt that she was the reason he was here in the first place."If you could just wake up..." Adriana said softly, her voice laced with pain and regret. "I need you, Kallias." But as always, her words were left hanging
"Did you see the troops of men pouring into the palace today?" Rad asked the royal aide and Marcus. They were in Marcus's room. He had sneaked them in after his night meal was served, and they had all eaten together.Maxwell had made a rule that Rad, the royal aide, and a few others could not eat more than once a day, and Marcus had been secretly feeding them his meal for a while now."I heard Prince Maxwell called for a meeting." The royal aide replied. They had all chosen not to give Maxwell the title of King.Kallias was their one and only true King."Alpha Xavier is also here. Ella overheard Maxwell telling his guard to send a word to him. The paper must have really shaken them." Marcus grinned."What about the next plan?" Rad asked him."In progress. By tomorrow it should be out." Marcus answered him."But won't this put Adriana and the King in danger? Maxwell would definitely be looking for them now." The royal aide said worriedly."I'm sure Adriana has something up her sleeve.

Alpha Raymond stared at his soon-to-be son-in-law like he had grown two heads.Xavier's lips quivered and he repeated the exact words he had spoken a moment ago.“Adriana is dead.”“How foolish of you to say that about my daughter!” Alpha Raymond snapped.“I didn't want to believe it as well, but i
