Chapter 2 I Want To Stay by Your Side

Author: Explosive King
'She's listening to her husband sleep with his mistress and still buying him herbal tonic? Have some self-respect!'

'The pathetic perfect wife act she has is exactly why she deserves what's coming when she gets HIV from him!'

I lay on the stiff guest room bed with a faint smile and thought, 'Curse all you want. I can wait.'

The next morning, Jesse went down the stairs with dark circles under his eyes, exhaustion from last night written all over him.

He looked irritated to see me cooking in the kitchen and threw a stack of bank statements at me. "I've cancelled the supplementary cards under your name. Let's see how long you can pretend to be the perfect wife without my money."

The live chat celebrated instantly.

'Serves her right! Let this lovesick fool go broke.'

'You let go of the 50 million yesterday. Now you get nothing.'

I merely smiled and carried the herbal tonic to him. I looked at him with pained devotion, "Jesse, even without money, I'd still serve you for life. You must be tired after last night. Drink some tonic to replenish your energy."

Jesse frowned. He probably couldn't understand why I was still smiling. "What do you want?"

"I just want to stay by your side."

He sneered, took a few careless sips, then slammed the unfinished tonic onto the table. After that, he left with Gina without another glance.

I watched his car disappear beyond the gates before leaving for the office. However, I realized my access card had already been deactivated by the time I reached the office lobby.

"There she is. Mr. Fleming's replacing her."

"Tsk. She climbed to the top the dirty way. Guess she's falling the same way, too."

The live chat was also rubbing salt in my wound. 'Serves her right! She lost the man and the money.'

Right then, the elevator doors opened, and Jesse walked out with an arm wrapped around Gina. When he saw me blocked outside the door, the contempt in his eyes was impossible to miss.

"Have you finally realized your mistake? If you sign the papers now, I might still throw you a bone."

I stayed quiet.

He then turned around and announced to everyone, "Starting today, Gina will replace Sarah as project director."

Silence fell over the lobby. Shocked murmurs spread through the crowd.

A street girl who had not even finished middle school was about to take over the project team I had built from scratch.

My nails dug into my palm. My eyes reddened as tears slid down my cheeks.

The live chat paused for a moment before flooding the screen even faster. 'Stop crying over spilled milk! We told you to take the money. You brought this on yourself.'

Jesse once again threw the divorce settlement at me. "This is your last chance. Sign it and get lost. Otherwise, you're fired."

I wiped away the tears and shook my head. "I won't sign it. If you don't want me here, I'll just be a housewife. As long as I can stay by your side, I'll gladly serve you… and Gina."

Jesse's expression darkened completely, and the live chat went completely mad. 'Are you a masochist, Sarah? What is wrong with her? If you don't leave now, you'll die when the HIV hits him!'

"Sarah…" Jesse's voice was dangerously low. "Don't push your luck."

He tilted his chin slightly, and two bodyguards dragged me out of the building. It was pouring, and I fell on the wet steps like an abandoned stray dog.

Even the live chat seemed furious now. 'This is frustrating! What are you doing, Sarah?'

Just then, my phone vibrated.

A nurse's panicked voice came through, "Ms. Fulton, Mr. Fleming ordered us to stop your grandmother's ventilator. Please come now. She may not have much time left."

"Sarah, you vicious woman…" Jesse used the last of his strength to curse me. His voice was low and hoarse. The live chat remained as active as ever, clearly amused by the scene.'Jesse is ruined at this point. What's the point of taking care of him? He has nothing left except a failing body!''You don't understand sunk cost, do you? Since things can't go back, she might as well keep playing the good wife and build herself a perfect reputation."'Come on, girls. Sarah won't get much money even if he dies. The Fleming elders transferred most of their assets long ago.'At that moment, a message in bold font appeared in the chat room.'Friends, I have inside information. There's an offshore trust fund worth thirty billion under Jesse's name. He's the only person who knows the one-time password. Every wrong attempt burns ten percent of the funds.'I paused at the revelation.'Thirty billion, they say?'I looked at the mess on the bed and approached him with a smile."Are you havin

At that critical moment, my phone rang. It was a call from the ICU."Ms. Fulton, Old Mr. Fleming had a heart attack earlier. He didn't make it."The police sealed off the area and arrested Jordan and Gina for causing intentional harm.As Gina was escorted past me, she glared at me with venom in her eyes. "You did this, didn't you? You set us up!"I didn't even bother to look her way. I focused on wiping the blood from Jesse's face; my voice remained as gentle as ever. "I don't understand what you're accusing me of, Gina. But don't worry. I'll hire the best lawyer to make sure you have plenty of time to reflect in prison."Before Jesse slipped into unconsciousness, his lips parted slightly as if he wanted to say something to me.I leaned down close to his face and whispered, "Rest assured, Jesse. Your time isn't up yet. I'll claim you've developed a mental disorder and take the right to dispose of property from you. "Then, you'll spend the rest of your life in the most luxurio

My suggestion stunned them both. The live chat was laughing.'Sarah put two disasters in the same room. One wants a son, and the other wants to climb the social ladder. She turned the hospital room into a battlefield.''Damn, Sarah. That's ruthless. She's making sure they torture each other until they fall apart together.'Jesse stared at me in disbelief. "Don't you mind?"Tears welled in my eyes within a second, impressing even myself. "I can endure everything as long as you get better and your family has a successor."My words moved Jesse. He turned to yell at Gina. "Did you hear Sarah? She's kind enough to tolerate you. Don't you dare to try anything funny, or else I'll strangle you myself."Despite the threat, greed won over Gina's fear. She quickly put on a smile and flattered me. "You're so kind, Sarah. In that case, I'll accept the kind offer."I left the room and closed the door.…What happened in the room over the following days was more entertaining than any soap

After leaving the Fleming residence, I headed to the company.I tossed the termination letter on Jesse's most trusted special assistant's face.Silence enveloped the room. The executives who had once looked down upon me didn't dare to say a word."Sarah, you're only Mr. Fleming's substitute. You have no right to fire us!" His face was flushed with indignation as he protested.I toyed with the fountain pen in my hand. I almost laughed when I remembered that Jesse had given it to me on our wedding anniversary last year."Why not? He has given me the carte blanche and the official seal." I smiled at him.I made a gesture at the door. The new team I had personally promoted walked into the room and replaced the old executives one by one.The live chat was discussing my decision.'Sarah slays again! She eliminates the root cause to avoid trouble.''This is expected from an apex predator. She took advantage of the situation and reaped the benefits.''It's too early to celebrate. Di

In the isolation room of a suburban private hospital, the smell of disinfectant filled the air.Jesse curled up on the bed. His usually immaculate hair was now a mess. In just a short time, he had lost a frightening amount of weight, and even his eyes looked sunken. When he saw me enter the room, he scrambled to his feet and threw himself at the window."Help me, Sarah! The doctors lied to me! They said I only have a few years left to live! But you know so many top doctors. You must have a way to save me, right?"I looked at the pathetic man behind the glass and put on a sorrowful expression.I said nothing. Instead, I raised a trembling hand to the glass, tracing his features from behind the barrier. The live chat disagreed with my behavior.'I can't believe it! He's still playing victim at this point! Run, Sarah! You need to stay away from him!''Come on, Sarah. Don't let him fool you! Don't you remember that he threatened to end your grandmother's life? You should just leave

The report crumpled in Jesse's hand."Are you out of your mind, Sarah?" he accused in a low voice, forcing the threat through gritted teeth. "Did you forge this disgusting report just to spite me? Just to stop me from divorcing you?"Then, he tore the report apart. Shreds of paper scattered across the stage.Gina finally snapped out of her trance. Her face turned pale, but she quickly found security in Jesse's arms."Jesse, it's only because Sarah loves you deeply that she stooped so low and took such an extreme measure. There's no way you can get such a disease! She's trying to embarrass you!"The guests began to exchange whispers among themselves and shot us judgmental looks.I stood on the stage and stared at the devoted lovers. A ghost of a cruel smile curled my lips. "Do you think I forged it?" I let out a chuckle, retrieved the remote controller from my purse, and turned on screen mirroring. The massive LED wall blinked to life.Soon, a complete medical record appeared.
