Chapter 4 The Announcement

Jesse frowned again, but he left with Gina without thinking too much of my words.

I lightly held my grandmother's hand.

"Sarah…" Her lips trembled weakly, her voice barely louder than a whisper. "If I hadn't fallen sick, you wouldn't have married that scumbag."

I pressed her hands against my cheek and snuggled into it. "Grandma, don't be silly. Good days are coming soon."

The next day, the mansion was decorated lavishly for Douglas' birthday.

Jesse entered with the glamorous Gina on his arm, looking like a perfect couple. She wore an elegant white dress, with a teardrop diamond necklace resting against her collarbone.

The live chat was giddy once again.

'Isn't that necklace Sarah's? Why is this woman wearing it?'

'He's shameless enough to bring his mistress to his grandfather's birthday party?'

I took a slow breath and stepped into the ballroom. All eyes were on me. Gina spotted me first, and her expression shifted immediately. She whispered something into Jesse's ear before walking to me with a glass of red wine.

The next second, she splashed the wine onto my dress and covered her mouth in fake panic. "Oh no, Sarah. I'm so sorry. You suddenly walked in front of me."

Jesse strode over and stood protectively in front of her as though I would attack. "That's enough, Sarah. Get changed. Stop embarrassing yourself. Don't try anything funny. You're signing the papers today whether you like it or not."

I merely looked up and stared at him silently.

Soon, the party reached its peak. Douglas sat in the main seat amid thunderous applause, while guests raised their glasses in celebration.

Suddenly, Jesse placed his glass down and walked to the center of the stage with the mic. "I have an announcement to make since everyone's here."

He turned around and grabbed Gina's hand. "I am divorcing Sarah and marrying Gina, the wonderful woman beside me."

The crowd was stunned.

"He's nuts to do this at his grandfather's birthday party."

"What an ass! He publicly humiliated his wife at a party."

Gina leaned sweetly into his arms and shot me a triumphant look. Douglas' expression darkened visibly, but he did not say anything, considering the number of guests present.

Jesse pretended not to notice and slammed the divorce papers onto the stage. "Sarah, sign the papers now and leave."

I let out a soft laugh before going on stage.

He frowned immediately, disgust clear in his voice as he continued, "Don't just stand there. Sign the papers already. Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough?"

I ignored him and shoved a report into his arms. "Take a look."

His gaze landed on the report. The smug smile froze instantly on his face.

His eyes widened, and for a moment, he was paralyzed.

The live chat went dead silent.

Then, the comments exploded.
