Chapter 021

Ethan was boiling with unfathomable rage as he drove to the family house..

He was Alpha of the Frey's pack —the strongest pack around. How could he issue an order and his father canceled it?

Even if Ariana had given him a piece of vital information, he knew all too well that she was only doing that for her personal gain, and only he had the right to release her from prison.

And even worse, her father hadn't the courtesy to call him to apologise for what his daughter did. 

He was still rummaging over the thought when the shrill noise of his ringing phone cut through the silence and his thoughts. It was Alpha Damien so he knew it was something important. 

The sound of moans filled the car's atmosphere as soon as he picked the call. Damien was with his girls again. It was wolves like Damien that made hybrids hate the pure wolves. He changed them and even treated them like whores. And as much as it disgusted Ethan, the sound of Damien drowned in pleasure made him miss Abigail even more..

“Damien?” He called out. “Are you there or are you busy?”

Damien's voice was raspy from pleasure. “Ethan? I didn't know you'd even pick.”

Ethan heard him command the girls to leave, waited another few seconds before Damien settled.

“I'm sorry,” Damien apologised. “I thought you'd be too busy to pick.”

Everyone knew Alpha Damien was a Casanova and if his wife couldn't stop him, his friends didn't bother. It was pointless. 

“I've got news about the rogues,” Damien said, settling down. “Not much. But you should know.”

Ethan straightened in the car, waiting to hear what Damien had to say. 

“They're after your pack, Ethan.”

“My pack? Why?”

As far as Ethan was concerned, the werewolf community was in order. The rogues knew their place. Why were they now targeting his pack 

“They want to destabilise the werewolf community so they're starting by attacking the strongest pack.”

Ethan gritted his teeth. He wasn't scared of a bunch of rogues. They stood no chance against the Frey's pack or the werewolf community. 

“I need more information, Damien. I want to know their leader. Who dares to imagine that they can fight against me.”

“I'm still looking into it, Ethan. I just needed you to know this.”

Ethan nodded. “Thanks, Damien.”

He tossed his phone back to his pocket with a grim determination that he was returning to Dark city to put an end to the rogues. If they couldn't live in peace with the wolves, they would be cast away completely. 

But as the ride took the route towards the family's house, his thoughts returned to how he would deal with Pa Frey. 

His heels clicked with determination as he stepped out from the car and took the marbled floor that led to the guest parlour. Pa Frey was always there. He was basically the Alpha because Ethan was never in the family's house. He preferred to be on his own or out there, protecting the pack. But Pa Frey was like the figure head —always present. 

Maybe he had allowed it too much that the old man didn't realise that he was no longer Alpha. 

But as he stepped into the guest parlour, it was empty. 

Strange for the old man not to be seated there thinking of one mischievous thing to do. Unless he was already doing it. 

“Pa Frey?” Ethan called out. “Where are you?”

Ethan, figuring the old man was probably in his room, started towards the stairs. But he heard the angry voice of someone calling his name..

He knew who it was before he sounded around. But it was his state that left Ethan amused. 

Liam looked like he had been run over by a truck, and by luck's chance, he had survived. His hair was dishevelled and even from afar, Ethan could smell the alcohol he reeked of. 

Ethan had decided not to be involved in whatever Liam was going through. He was now an adult and a disrespectful one. Abigail wasn't his birthright and she had the right to choose who she wanted. Even if she was just a hybrid. 

And she had chosen him.

But discontent Liam wouldn't be placated. 

“Ethan!” He called out again. “You thief!”

Ethan fisted his hand in rage. He was mad enough and Liam could easily be a victim of his rage if he wasn't careful enough. 

Liam wore a smirk on his face as he stepped towards his father, his knees wobbling but moving all the same, as he was swayed from side to side by the effect of alcohol, yet still moving by some sheer luck 

“First, you never treated mum right. All my life, I grew up without a mum just because you couldn't be responsible to your wife!”

Ethan lowered his brows. Liam was only drunk talking. He had no idea about the details of his divorce with his mother. But wanting to stir up shit, he was saying lies, scratching the surface desperately, so he could act on his rage. 

“You no nothing,” Ethan spoke with a calm that angered Liam more. 

As he turned away to go, Liam spoke again. 

“I know everything, Ethan . I know enough to call you an irresponsible husband and father. How could you be so irresponsible that you would dare steal your son's girlfriend?”

His frown broke into a smirk and a bitter laugh escaped from his throat. “Isn't that the same way you were irresponsible towards Abigail, my girlfriend? You stood there when the building exploded. You couldn't even go in there and save her. I saved her!”.

“Good job, Liam. Were you expecting an applause from me?”

He slapped his hands against themselves rhythmically. “Satisfied, son?”

Liam fisted his hand and raced towards him. “I am not your son!” he screamed. 

Before he reached Ethan, his wolf, angry and malicious, tore out from him, ready to shred Ethan into pieces
