Abigail had seen men like Daven. It wasn't strange.
In fact, wasn't all men like that to hybrids? Most of them looked at them like an abomination, and the few who spoke to them, all made it seem like they were something important.
She took out her card at the payment terminal. A hybrid stood there, looking at her with enough disgust. She had definitely seen a lot of hybrids walk into the masks, living the life she couldn't just because she wasn't pretty enough to dare. And this one even wore her hair down in curls.
“Five hundred dollars,” she said.
Abigail stretched her card. As the lady swiped it, her head told her age could have used that money for something else.
But going out on a solo date was good, wasn't it?
She had never done that before.
She stepped out of the mall, a new owner of a five hundred dollar gown clutched to her body like a second skin.
As she stood out, waiting for her can who was supposed to arrive in less than a minute, Daven sat in his father's car watching her. From the moment she stepped out of the mall in the evening gown, she had stolen his breath.
Abigail was carelessly beautiful.
And he was determined to have her that night even more.
He contemplated going to offer her a ride. But he knew girls like Abigail. He had dated quite a handful of them abroad. Fierce, beautiful, and witty.
Her cab arrived and she got in. The moment the driver smelled her wolf, his fake respect vanished. She was a hybrid like him and couldn't save him from his wretched state.
Abigail, unaware of the driver's thoughts, leaned against the door, ears plucked, and listening to her favourite library of songs. Like Crescent mall, 247 was a restaurant attended by the hybrids who could afford it. Some pure wolves graced it occasionally. But it was always with the sole aim of causing trouble. She arrived at her destination and stepped out.
Tonight, she was going to have some fun.
When Daven saw her stop at 247, he was disappointed. For someone so audacious, he had thought she was going to one of the five star restaurants meant for pure wolves. He killed his car engine and stepped out.
Of course, they could tell that he was a pure wolves. Most of them kept their distance. Even if he had been away for four years, they knew he was Alpha Makael’s son. Some of them, however, tried to start a fight. But a growl was enough to remind them that he could shift at any time and consequences never fell on the pure wolves.
He swaggered in like he owned the place, scanning around for the lady in a blue evening dress. He found her seated in a corner, head buried in her phone.
No date.
Or was he late?
Five minutes was all he gave Liam. A gentleman never keeps his lady waiting.
He waltz up to a table where a lady and her date sat. Leaning against the table, he declared.
“I need this table.”
The couple, sensing he wanted trouble, they stood up, cursing silently. Daven settled on one of the chairs and stared at the half eaten plates.
“One…two…three.”
That was enough grace
He lifted the table cloth off the table, flinging it and the dishes to the floor. Abigail was too engrossed in the music blasting through her ears and a budget for money that wasn't hers to notice the rukus.
She only raised her head from the table when her meal arrived. If she were to ever go out to eat, she could only order for a plate of lamb pasta. She stared at the meal with a satisfying smile. Two plates of lamb pasta in a day was a treat.
Daven, disappointed that his little show of power didn't attract anyone's attention, turned his attention back to Abigail.
Liam was seated with her and she had ordered a meal.
Was Liam standing her off?
He stood up and walked over to her side.
“A gentleman shouldn't keep a lady waiting, you know?”
Abigail raised ber head to find the guy she had met at the mall. The lamb pasta soured in her tongue. Was he stalking her now?
He occupied the other chair uninvited and Abigail wished she had asked the waiter to take the empty chair away.
“Liam says I could take his place,” he said as he signalled for a waiter. “But I'm bent on also taking his place in your heart.”
Liam? Abigail thought.
Of course. Why was she surprised? Didn't be exhibit the same character as Liam?
She dropped her fork. “You must be mistaken,” she said. “This is a solo date.”
Daven grinned. “All the even better. What's that saying again? The more, the merrier. A pretty face like yours should be merry and I'm here for that.”
He signalled for a waiter who hurriedly came to his side. Pure wolves were never left waiting. One tick and they could unleash their beast and ruin everything. Who lost in the end?
The poor hybrids.
“I'll have what she's having,” he said.
“On a different table,” Abigail added before the waiter turned
But he didn't acknowledge her request. She dug her fork into her meal. Maybe she should have just stayed at home, ordered lamb pasta, and have a good time indoors.
Why did she even think there wouldn't be some sort of interruption?
Daven was studying her. The way her lips were curled as she frowned. It even made her more irresistible.
“You look beautiful,” he said. “A face like this shouldn't be in a place like this. Why would Liam choose this place for a date? Has he no taste?”
Abigail dropped her cutlery down, angry.
“I've told you before,” she spoke under restraint. “I'm here alone.”
He could have been planted by Pa Frey to provoke her so he could finally have a reason to get rid of him.
“Don't you know what a solo date is?”
His meal arrived.
Abigail rolled her eyes. If hybrids could not protect each other's interests, they would keep being the second class citizens.
Daven pushed the meal after a single taste. “You know what?” He said, eyes darkening with desire. *How about we ditch this place and I take you to my house?”
Ethan took Abigail's hand.“I really want to show you in every way that you're my choice,” he said. “So, I'll stay with you tonight.”“And tomorrow?” She asked, teasingly. “Every other night…till forever.”It felt good hearing that. Ethan figured he would deal with Bianca's problem by morning of the next day. He was so sure that she wasn't pregnant and after the test result had confirmed that, his would send her away, a mistake he wouldn't make again. He pulled her to himself, just to taste the sweetness of her lips. “I've missed doing this,” he confessed. “I've missed your laughs. You have no idea.”Abigail slapped his chest with mock annoyance. “You left me all alone.”He wrapped her with his arms. “I'm sorry, my pigeon.”“Pigeon.”“‘cause you're cute and smallish.”Abigail smiled. “It was you, wasn't it? The person who did my job.”“Stayed all night for you.”Her smile widened. Then she raised her head. “Oh my gosh! It was you. You sent me that money.”Ethan didn't affirm but hi
Bianca's heart had been racing erratically ever since Ethan requested for a proof of pregnancy, and worse, Alex, his over keen assistant was right there with her to ensure she didn't doctor the result. She sat there, hoping for an escape. If Ethan found out that her pregnancy claim was a lie, he would be mad at her deception and lock her out. She played with her fingers nervously while Alex sat there, waiting for her to go in. He had received clear instructions from his boss to follow through the process. And seeing how nervous she was, he knew she was hiding something. But for the life of him, he would never understand why his boss had decided to go back to his ex wife. Alpha Ethan had been barely alive until he found Abigail. He had seen how much he changed and he didn't care about the age difference. And the past few days without her had been torturous for him.He could never understand Alpha Ethan.“Why are you here anyway?” Bianca barked at him. “Isn't Ethan coming?”She was des
Ethan held her hand and moved dangerously close to her. She felt his warm breath against her ears. It spoke of burning desires, a call that awakened hers. But Abigail wanted so badly to resist, yet, she wanted more badly to give in, to forget about everything even for the moment and fall into the arms of the man she was still obviously in love with. “Why are you doing this to me —to us?” Ethan's voice, laced with deep desire, croaked into her ear.She shut her eyes and held her breath. With him so close, it was difficult to decide, to remain angry, or to say no.She moaned with need. Even her body couldn't deny that she missed him, and more than ever, she wanted him, yet there and now.Ethan took cue from her moan and found her lips. They crashed into each other, each touch, a reminder of the passion they ignited in one another and a testament that they were meant for each other. Abigail didn't remember Bianca and her pregnancy and Ethan didn't think of Daven and what relationship h
It was too late for regrets, Abigail knew that. So she didn't apologise. She glared at him like how she wished she could glare at every wolf who had called her a hybrid or looked down on her. He was bearing the brunt because he couldn't mind his business.Despite the gravity of her words and the way it made him feel initially, Daven realised he wasn't really mad. It soothed him, strangely.Wasn't it the truth?Besides, he had never had never had anyone speak to him that way. Even abroad, the ladies always kept their thoughts to themselves because of what they could gain from him. And back here, he was the Alpha's son.“You insulted me first,” Abigail declared. “Do you not realise it? You don't respect my decision because I am a hybrid.”Daven nodded. She was right. He had overstepped. He started the car and took the opposite lane, returning back to the office. Abigail didn't want this ride home. She didn't want to be in the space of someone who constantly ridiculed her existence. Wa
It was a relief to Abigail. For one, she had thought she had been set up. And she really needed a new card after Daven rudely broke hers. She was actually on her last cent and she knew how excruciatingly difficult it was to get a card at the bank.Well, unless your blood screamed pure wolf. She could afford to frown now.“You made me beg for nothing.”It was infuriating being around someone who enjoyed making fun of others. But for now, Abigail kept her cool. She needed him to help her sort her card issues. After then, she would tell him to stay the hell away from her. She wasn't a hybrid that needed some pure wolf’s shadow to navigate her way around. She had been doing just fine before every one of them.Daven chuckled and led the way. “I didn't know you had a tear in you,” he said as he turned towards the bank. He owed Abigail a new card. But that was now really the reason he had decided to help her. Truth was, he couldn't stop thinking about her and desiring to hold her. And his
Daven held the steering, feeling proud. He had the woman he wanted, seated beside him. And even though her face was moulded into a scowl, a win was a win.Abigail sat quietly, wondering where Daven was taking her to. The day was bright and a public place was a huge no. She didn't want to be in another scandal. Mia had told her straight. She would abandon her. She couldn't even survive another scandal, being looked at as she walked the street and hated by even the unloved - the hybrids. She faced Daven. “Lunch break is thirty minutes,” she reminded him. He probably had never worked, she thought. And had no regard for time. “Where are you taking me to?”Daven flashed a smile that grated on her nerves. “Chill. Will ya? And don't worry, it's my company. No one can sack you.”“It's not yours if you're not CEO,” she shot quietly. She understood boys like Daven. Always having things done for them their whole life and even too lazy right now as a grown adult to reason with their brains. The
