His audacity didn't surprise her, it only angered her. Here she was, with her hopes of having a good time out, but being a hybrid, there was never a good day. 

And the person sent by the universe to ruin her day was a stranger.

She smiled. Wasn't it what they told them in ethics class? Always smile. Be polite at all times to the wolves. They are the reason you're still in this community. You're no different from a rogue. In fact, you're rogues with home training and that is why you're in ethics class. 

Abigail hadn't forgotten her lessons.

“What do you suppose we do there?” She asked as politely as she could.

Daven sensed the sarcasm in her statement. She was indeed fiery, and the more she showed him that fire, the more he wanted to feel the heat. 

“A lot more than Liam has ever done.”

Pure wolves. Abigail hated them because they would never know their place. 

She ignored him. That was the best she could do. So, she grabbed her fork and dug into the lamb pasta that was already getting cold. 

Daven watched her as she ate with growing interest. He thought about the photo he had seen on his father's desk. 

“Liam's a coward, you know,” he said, grabbing his phone. 

Abigail didn't respond. He put on the camera and stretched the phone enough to capture them.

“Say cheese…”

Abigail raised her head and he caught a picture. She frowned. He was crossing too many boundaries.

“Delete that,” she said firmly. “I mean it.”

He slapped the phone on the table. “Make me…” a smile played on his face and Abigail wanted so much to slap it off. Daven leaned forward. “Maybe if you do what I want,I won't let Liam know about our little secret.”

If Abigail hadn't spent good money on the plate of lamb pasta, she would have walked out already. She returned to the plate, eating as fast as she could, so she could leave the restaurant. 

Daven saw she was ignoring him but he enjoyed provoking her even more.

“You don't stand a chance with Liam,” he said. He stared at the picture he had taken. It was perfect. He immediately uploaded it online with a provocative caption. He returned the phone to the table and faced her.

“Alpha Ethan hates hybrids and my father doesn't have a say over my choice…unlike Liam.”

Abigail gritted her teeth. It took all the willpower she could surmount to stop her from either throwing the table at him or cursing him. 

Hybrids were not commodities.

And she was so mad at what he said about Alpha Ethan. He had no idea of anything about him. Ethan had saved her that night without caring whether she was a hybrid or not. He was the first man who had shown her so much care and attention. As an orphaned hybrid, it was something she had never experienced. And that was why she had fallen in love with him.

Hearing Daven say what he said felt like soiling the true image of who he was 

But she kept her anger locked and focused on eating.

Eat up, Abby. Then you can get out of here.

Daven hoped Liam saw the picture. He was back and it felt great that Liam was the first person he was picking on. A beautiful girl like Abigail didn't deserve to be by his side, he concluded.

He grabbed his phone again and dropped a caption.

Pretty, hot hybrid.

He smiled as he dropped the phone. 

“What do you say?” He asked. He didn't expect an answer from her. But no way was he returning home without her. If she didn't accept him as a gentleman, she would have no choice when she reminded her of her place. And his place above her.

“You don't have to answer,” he continued. “You don't have a choice if I ask you to.”

That was it. Abigail had had it enough. She dropped the fork and pushed the plate away. Staring at him with enough disgust, she said, “I'm not a mistress…and was never one to Liam. We dated—”

“Dated?” He leaned back. “Now, that's even interesting. He got tired of you?”

She bit her cheek. “It doesn't matter who did. All you need to know is I was never a mistress to Liam. When we were together, it was nothing but love.”

“You thought he would be your mate and Alpha Ethan would embrace you as his daughter in law? You must be the most disillusioned person I've ever met.”

“You know nothing about me,” Abigail maintained. She signalled for the annoying waiter who had ignored her earlier and served her with the stranger that was getting on her nerves. 

She took out her card. “I'd like to pay and leave now,”she said. 

But as he turned to leave, Daven stopped him. He stood up and stretched his hand. 

“Give the hybrid her card,” he demanded. 

Abigail got up too, reaching her limit. “I'll pay for my meal. Thank you, sir.”

He glared at her. “How dare you?!”

She had gone overboard. “Don't you know your place?”

The attention of the others in the restaurant was beginning to get drawn to them. This was the last thing she wanted. Phone cameras were already flashing in their direction. Daven enjoyed the attention. 

Abigail pursed her lips and reached for her card. But he snatched it and broke it.

“This is what happens when you don't remember your place.”

“I'm sorry,” she apologised even when she wanted to slap him and tell him to fuck off.

Maybe in a different world.

She watched as her card fell to the floor, now in two. How was she going to get a new card?

Daven flashed his card. “It's unlimited,” he said. “Use it. She probably cannot pay her bill. Isn't that what hybrids do? Come up here with nothing in their account, hoping for some generous pure wolf to save them.”

The waiter collected the card and hurried to make the transaction while he watched her, satisfied that he could put her in her place. When the waiter returned, he pocketed his card and said. 

“Now that I've paid for your dinner, you have no choice but to follow me to my place.”
