When her cab stopped in front of Crescent shopping mall, a smile tugged at the end of his lips.
He watched as she stepped out with a grace foreign to her type. It was always easy to spot the hybrids. They walked with heads bowed, hair tied, and steps uncertain.
But her?
She was different and he could smell the deviance in her from a distant.
Who would see her and think that she's only a hybrid?
And even now, with the air she carried, he wondered who she truly was. And why she was in a photo with Alpha Ethan.
Was she his mistress?
That was the only thing capable of giving hybrids half of the confidence she wore.
He stepped out of his car and followed her. He was suddenly lost in the mall, attracted by things he loved but couldn't afford. No thanks to Ethan.
He was drooling at a Rolex watch, his charm, the only thing that kept the shop attendant to his side, when he heard an angry voice.
He turned to find it was Cassie. Cassie was his high school girlfriend for barely three months. He got bored and moved on to the next one. But it wasn't because of her he kept staring. Cassie was speaking angrily to Abigail and demanding something —the dress that she held.
She frowned and abandoned his Rolex. Wasn't this providence? A damsel in distress and the knight in shining armour? This was the perfect time to get Abigail's attention.
Abigail held onto the dress while he walked towards the, determined not to give it up. She had seen the dress first. And this was Crescent shopping mall. Why was she here anyway?
“I can't,” she voiced out. “I was sent to purchase it.”
Cassie scoffed. “You can't fool me,” she said. “I know your type. Destroyers of the perfect homes. In fact, I know you personally. Aren't you the one dating Liam Frey?”
Abigail decided not to say anything again. She was simply going to pay for the gown and leave. No one had the right to ruin this night for her.
She turned to go but Cassie grabbed her hair, pulling her backwards.
“I'm still talking to you!”
Abigail's scalf screamed with pain. It wasn't enough that she couldn't buy good conditioners for her roots, now her hair had to go through a traumatic experience.
Cassie snatched the gown away and was attempting to run away with it when she tripped.
Daven appeared from the corner without looking at her. His gaze was planted on Abigail.
“I got you something,” he said.
Cassie was still livid and embarrassed that she had been tripped. She was trying to lift herself from the floor and ready to rain hell on the individual, when she felt a force ripping the dress from her grip. She threw a glare at the person but when she saw his face, her face softened.
“Daven?”
He didn't look at her or lifted her with an apology like she expected. Instead, he lifted the dress towards Abigail.
“Your dress. You'll look good on it.”
Cassie big her rage and stood up. “Hey! What's wrong with you Daven.”
It was Daven, sure. Even if she hadn't seen him in a thousand years, she would recognise him easily. Daven had left her heartbroken twice. When he broke up with her and when he traveled abroad without letting her know.
Daven faced her now.
“Cassie,” he said. “It's great to see that you still look miserable.”
Abigaill stiffked a laugh. Whoever this guy was, he was amusing, and she loved the way he handled Cassie.
Cassie nervously checked herself, straightening her dress. Daven moved towards her and picked a dirty on her hair.
“You still can't shampoo your hair well, Cassie?”
She reddened with embarrassment. “Daven. You know I picked that up when I fell.”
“You were the one who weren't looking at where you were going. Is it my fault?”
She shook her head with a smile.
“You know what? Let's forget about all that. It's great to see you again. When did you return?”
“Soon enough to stop you from bullying her. Tell me, is it because she's prettier than you?”
Cassie scoffed. “Pretty? She's just a hybrid.”
Daven leaned forward. “But you know I love blondes. Didn't you dye your hair after I broke up with you?”
Cassie griited her teeth. Why was Daven embarrassing her in the presence of a hybrid? Abigail, now possessing the dress, thought it was time to leave the scene. Even though Daven had helped her, he wasn't any different from Liam.
Liam had treated her like thrash. And Daven was doing the same to Cassie.
She turned away and was leaving when a grip stopped her. Daven was holding her wrist like he owned her and staring at Cassie.
“What do you want?” Abigail demanded.
He didn't respond. “Didn't you, Cassie?”
Cassie scoffed, angry at the way he treated her. “Why are you even defending her?” She asked. “She's Liam Frey's girlfriend.”
Liam Frey, Ethan thought.
They had been a year apart in school. While he had been the bad of his set, Liam had been the exact same in his set. There had been no way to really establish who had more power. Maybe this was his chance.
“His girlfriend?” He asked.
“Yes,” Cassie responded. “So, don't think you can get anything from her.”
He smirked. “Leave that to me, Cassie .”
Even now, his resolve strengthened. He was going to take Abigail as his.
Maybe that was why she met with Alpha Ethan. No pure wolf, especially Alphas, would want their children associated with hybrids.
“They only stain you and give you hybrid pups that become slaves,” his father used to say.
But Daven thought Werewolf city needed some new lessons.
“I'll see you around, Cassie,” he said, turning away to meet Abigail's gaze.
“Thank you,” she said. “I should have thanked you earlier. Can I go now?”
Daven felt his heart racing. Liam's girlfriend in his arms would be the perfect way to establish the pecking order now that he was back.
“You don't need to say thank you,” he said.
He pulled her closer. “Act it.”
Abigail frowned now. She had seen him roughly handled Cassie. She wasn't going to allow him do the same to her.
She pulled her hand from his grip and backed away.
“You can't treat me the way you treated that lady. I won't allow it.”
Her audacity surprised her and it amused Daven even more.
“I'll let you go,” he said. “But we'll meet again.”
He walked away.
Abigail watched him for the longest time, and when she was sure he had left, she turned away, ready to wear her gown and spend the night happy. Even for once.
Ethan took Abigail's hand.“I really want to show you in every way that you're my choice,” he said. “So, I'll stay with you tonight.”“And tomorrow?” She asked, teasingly. “Every other night…till forever.”It felt good hearing that. Ethan figured he would deal with Bianca's problem by morning of the next day. He was so sure that she wasn't pregnant and after the test result had confirmed that, his would send her away, a mistake he wouldn't make again. He pulled her to himself, just to taste the sweetness of her lips. “I've missed doing this,” he confessed. “I've missed your laughs. You have no idea.”Abigail slapped his chest with mock annoyance. “You left me all alone.”He wrapped her with his arms. “I'm sorry, my pigeon.”“Pigeon.”“‘cause you're cute and smallish.”Abigail smiled. “It was you, wasn't it? The person who did my job.”“Stayed all night for you.”Her smile widened. Then she raised her head. “Oh my gosh! It was you. You sent me that money.”Ethan didn't affirm but hi
Bianca's heart had been racing erratically ever since Ethan requested for a proof of pregnancy, and worse, Alex, his over keen assistant was right there with her to ensure she didn't doctor the result. She sat there, hoping for an escape. If Ethan found out that her pregnancy claim was a lie, he would be mad at her deception and lock her out. She played with her fingers nervously while Alex sat there, waiting for her to go in. He had received clear instructions from his boss to follow through the process. And seeing how nervous she was, he knew she was hiding something. But for the life of him, he would never understand why his boss had decided to go back to his ex wife. Alpha Ethan had been barely alive until he found Abigail. He had seen how much he changed and he didn't care about the age difference. And the past few days without her had been torturous for him.He could never understand Alpha Ethan.“Why are you here anyway?” Bianca barked at him. “Isn't Ethan coming?”She was des
Ethan held her hand and moved dangerously close to her. She felt his warm breath against her ears. It spoke of burning desires, a call that awakened hers. But Abigail wanted so badly to resist, yet, she wanted more badly to give in, to forget about everything even for the moment and fall into the arms of the man she was still obviously in love with. “Why are you doing this to me —to us?” Ethan's voice, laced with deep desire, croaked into her ear.She shut her eyes and held her breath. With him so close, it was difficult to decide, to remain angry, or to say no.She moaned with need. Even her body couldn't deny that she missed him, and more than ever, she wanted him, yet there and now.Ethan took cue from her moan and found her lips. They crashed into each other, each touch, a reminder of the passion they ignited in one another and a testament that they were meant for each other. Abigail didn't remember Bianca and her pregnancy and Ethan didn't think of Daven and what relationship h
It was too late for regrets, Abigail knew that. So she didn't apologise. She glared at him like how she wished she could glare at every wolf who had called her a hybrid or looked down on her. He was bearing the brunt because he couldn't mind his business.Despite the gravity of her words and the way it made him feel initially, Daven realised he wasn't really mad. It soothed him, strangely.Wasn't it the truth?Besides, he had never had never had anyone speak to him that way. Even abroad, the ladies always kept their thoughts to themselves because of what they could gain from him. And back here, he was the Alpha's son.“You insulted me first,” Abigail declared. “Do you not realise it? You don't respect my decision because I am a hybrid.”Daven nodded. She was right. He had overstepped. He started the car and took the opposite lane, returning back to the office. Abigail didn't want this ride home. She didn't want to be in the space of someone who constantly ridiculed her existence. Wa
It was a relief to Abigail. For one, she had thought she had been set up. And she really needed a new card after Daven rudely broke hers. She was actually on her last cent and she knew how excruciatingly difficult it was to get a card at the bank.Well, unless your blood screamed pure wolf. She could afford to frown now.“You made me beg for nothing.”It was infuriating being around someone who enjoyed making fun of others. But for now, Abigail kept her cool. She needed him to help her sort her card issues. After then, she would tell him to stay the hell away from her. She wasn't a hybrid that needed some pure wolf’s shadow to navigate her way around. She had been doing just fine before every one of them.Daven chuckled and led the way. “I didn't know you had a tear in you,” he said as he turned towards the bank. He owed Abigail a new card. But that was now really the reason he had decided to help her. Truth was, he couldn't stop thinking about her and desiring to hold her. And his
Daven held the steering, feeling proud. He had the woman he wanted, seated beside him. And even though her face was moulded into a scowl, a win was a win.Abigail sat quietly, wondering where Daven was taking her to. The day was bright and a public place was a huge no. She didn't want to be in another scandal. Mia had told her straight. She would abandon her. She couldn't even survive another scandal, being looked at as she walked the street and hated by even the unloved - the hybrids. She faced Daven. “Lunch break is thirty minutes,” she reminded him. He probably had never worked, she thought. And had no regard for time. “Where are you taking me to?”Daven flashed a smile that grated on her nerves. “Chill. Will ya? And don't worry, it's my company. No one can sack you.”“It's not yours if you're not CEO,” she shot quietly. She understood boys like Daven. Always having things done for them their whole life and even too lazy right now as a grown adult to reason with their brains. The
