The list

I sit downstairs in the kitchen on the bar stool. The kitchen was relatively small compared to the size of the pack and very empty. It had fancy white marble counters with white brick as the background. It was early in the morning and I was the only one awake. I sip my warm coffee staring out the window as I once was yesterday. Sipping my coffee in the morning helped me to relax before it all went crazy in the morning. I did this every day since I was twelve.

“ Katherine, “ My father said sitting beside me.

It was a common occurrence for this to happen since my father was busy all the time as the alpha of the pack.

“ Hey, dad, “ I said

“ I heard that you all went out last night. Did you have fun? “ he said looking as if something was wrong.

“ No, not really, “ I said honestly.

Meeting vampires at your favorite hangout spot was exactly fun.

“ Oh, “ he said expecting me to say yes.

My father wasn’t much of a deep or emotional person. My mom was always there for that.

“ I have a favor to ask, Katherine, “ he grunted standing up so I could see his full figure.

He was a very short man with a muscular build. He wasn’t old enough to have grey hairs, but somehow he did. I assumed it was because of the stress he faced every day. He didn’t even have time to sit around like me. He was constantly spending time on the vampires’ shenanigans that he could barely be a father, let alone a father figure to the entire pack. Maybe if the vampires could forgive our pack my father would be able to be there.

My mother was a submissive who took care of the children and she was exceptional at it. On the other hand, my father was bad with kids but great at work. They balanced each other out, but now since she was gone the pack had taken a downward spiral. God, I’ve taken a downward spiral since my mom left, but that was beyond the point. I missed my dad as much as I missed my mom and that was bad,

“ Yes, sir, “ I said

“ I need some help with my work today. I’m a little, um, drained from these past months, “ he lied mumbling under his breath.

My father would never admit when he needed help, ever. I knew something was up, but I didn’t push it.

“ Sure, “ I said cocking my head and smirking.

“ What is it? “ he said defensively

“ Oh, it’s nothing bad, “ I fib drinking my last bit of coffee.

“ Ok, “ he said, “ Well, I need you to work with the vampires today, “ he said crossing his arms.

He knew I wouldn’t want to do this. I hated the vampires for what they did to his pack. I couldn’t say no. I wanted to figure out what was happening with him and of course, he was the alpha.

“ Really? Do you want me to deal with something as important as that? “ I questioned

“ I trust you, Katherine, but if you let me down I will make sure you will be put on pup duty, “ he threatened.

“ I won't let you down, Dad, “ I smiled trying to get out of this situation so I could snoop on him.

“ Ok, I’ll be out all day. Here’s a list of what you have to do today, “ he quickly said.

I could tell he was trying to get somewhere, but where? That was what I was going to find out today along with getting all the stuff done.

The List

Take care of the vampire business

- Were meeting at their place to discuss pack territory

and punishment for the vampires crossing into our territory

Get someone to grocery shop

Don’t let anyone come into my office

Make sure everyone gets all meals

“ It’s almost breakfast time so get to cooking, bye! “ he said rushing out the door.

The door slams shut.

It opens again.

“ . . . and I’ll remember if you don't do well—” he said

“ I get pup duty. Got it! “ I interrupted

It was a lot more than I thought I was going to be doing, but this was a perfect time to prove that I was dominant and that I could be a Luna in the future.
