The party

The abandoned warehouse where the party was taking place was nothing special. Really, it was just a hiding place to get away from our parents. They didn’t care if we drank at home or not it was just their views that hurt us. I sit against the cold grey wall sipping a beer. This was my time to relax from expectations. I didn’t have to prove anything to anyone. The vamps and the werewolves were still very much separated but tolerant of each other. The vampires just had to have everything they wanted. I still hated them for what they did to my pack. I hate them for their prejudices and their know-it-allness, but I didn’t hate them for everything. As proven by the vampire queen, not her dick husband, they could be nice, but that didn’t rub off on Ethan. He had made one of his vamps scared of him. I swear he got off on making them scared and I hated that. A pack member shouldn’t be scared of his leader; he should respect them

I walk over to the corner where all the wolves were hanging out.

“ I heard that the vampire crown prince killed a werewolf once, “ I heard a wolf whisper.

Ethan’s head turned at his title. It was true vampires could hear a mile away.

He headed over to us. His movement was tense.

“ Excuse me, “ he said reaching for one of the beers.

“ Isn’t it like impossible for vampires to get drunk, “ Joline said very tipsily.

She might as well have the tolerance of a bare human.

“ It’s very possible, just hard to attain, “ he huskily said.

I could tell from the tone of his voice his mood had gone down. I wonder if it had anything to do with his mother.

He slammed the cooler shut and walked away.

“ Next time slam it a little harder, “ JJ shouted.

Why couldn’t he just shut up sometimes? One day, he was going to say that to the wrong person and get killed.

“ So, who do you think would win in a fight? Katherine or Ethan? “ Maya said brushing her ass against JJ’s pants.

JJ carefully shooed her away and she sat and pouted on the cooler.

“ Ethan, have you seen his muscles? “ Mabel swooned.

I had the urge to beat the shit out of her for betraying me. How could everyone think that I was weak? I’d beaten many, many people bigger than me. It was just my frame that underestimated me.

“ I’m right here, “ I growled.

“ Oh, I don’t mean you’re not strong you’re just small. “ She explained.

That pissed me off even more. I balled up my fist.

Just as I was about to swing my first punch someone tapped me on the shoulder.

It was Ethan.

“ I’m sure you would, sweetheart, “ he laughed sipping more of his straight vodka.

“ Don’t call me that, “ I warned turning around, “ I’ll hurt you, “

“ Sure, sure, “ he chuckled.

I stepped closer to him, our faces only inches apart.

“ Talk to me like that one more time and I’ll bleed you dry. Wouldn’t you like to see how it feels with your empty, dry vein rubbing against each other, begging for blood? I’m sure you’d turn into the real monster you are and drink a human’s blood, “ I smirked.

He leaned a little closer.

“ . . . but I know what happened last night. You are nowhere near capable of injuring me with your current injuries, “ he whispered into my ear.

His words made my heart race. My hands became sweaty and my mouth dry.

How did he know that?

I backed away.

“ I will beat you, “ I boldly said

“ I’d like to see you try, sweetie, “ he smirked

He would see otherwise
