Divorce papers. My husband handed me divorce papers the moment he asked for a moment alone with me. It looked like a terrible joke. It had to be, because who the hell was that cold to hand divorce papers on the day of my mother's funeral. She was barely laid to rest and he was already doing this. I've used up all my tears for my mother, so I didn't know how to take it. My knees buckled before they hit the floor, numb and still shaking. My heart raced and it felt like any moment from now, I would have a heart attack. I slowly looked up at Julian. His dark cold eyes washing over me. When did they grow so cold, had it always been like this? We've been married for seven years and know each other our entire life and not even up to three years ago. I could tell his feelings towards me had changed. Not instantly but slowly they dimmed of light when pointed at my direction. I should have known, I shouldn't have held on this long. But I thought I could get him to love me again but instead, I watched the love of my life slowly come to resent me. I shake my head. "No." I utter in disbelief. "My mother was just put to rest Julian. You can't do this to me." I crawled all pathetic towards him tugging tightly to his pants as I look up at him with my hollow expression. "I need you, by my side. I can't go through this alone. I mean she was a mother to you too. How would you think she would feel about this if..." "Aren't you tired?" Julian hissed at me, exhaustion clouding his tone. His hand goes over to the bridge of his nose as he massages it. "What else do you want from me? I stayed with you the entire time after her passing. I saw through that you didn't lift a finger while I arranged for her funeral. I even stayed when you begged me not to leave you three years ago because of your mother's health. Don't you think you're beginning to look selfish?" He said as I looked down. His words like a dagger to my heart. I looked back up at him. "What's so selfish about being comforted by my husband?" I hissed. "It's the least you could do, it's what you vowed to do when you agreed to marry me. Don't you think you're the selfish one, you fell in love with another woman and for three years pretended to act like you love me just for my mother's sake. When all you could have done was cut her off and open your heart to me once again.." I sobbed still clinging on to Julian. Fearing that any moment from now, he'd disappear. "Don't leave me Julian." My voice broke. "Please don't do this... I'm begging you." "I promised to marry Veronica the moment I laid your mother to rest." He said and he might as well as gotten a gun and shot me. It explains how he barely had time to mourn, hell the moment my mother died it didn't take him more than three days to bury her. Everything was so rushed and this was his reason behind it. "So sign the divorce papers. I promise you'll get a hefty alimony." He said, without struggling shakes me off from his legs. He turned his back at me like he always had and began walking towards the door. My vision was a blur but I tried to put Julian in focus as I stood up immediately. "I don't want your alimony." I said, bending down to pick up the divorce papers, I tore it in half. "And I'm not signing anything." I said my chest rising. Julian turned to look at me. "You're lucky that there's more where that came from. And you'll need the money trust me. All I ask that you cooperate and sign. Besides I'm being generous here." He said. "Generous?" I hissed. "Does the company my mother entrusted you to run, fall under the alimony?" I said. "I'm glad you are aware that it was entrusted to me. I won't give too much details but I can't just give you company as alimony Rebecca. The only way you might have been entitled to it is if we had an heir. But then again for seven years you couldn't do just that." So now he was mocking me? For something that was entirely out of my control. For the entire seven years, I had four miscarriages. That the last one almost took my life and because of that I was depressed and I and Julian rarely had sex. Maybe it was my fault like Julian said, the day I caught him in Veronica's arms. He blamed me, be said I pushed him towards her and maybe I did. I go on my knees one last time. "Don't go through with the divorce. I'll give you a child. Please, just honor my last request." I said as Julian's eyes darkened. "Veronica is three weeks pregnant." He said as my entire face turned white. "Which is why I must marry her as soon as possible." He said as I staggered back on my bum in shock. "I'll have the driver take you home. Once you're there pack your things and leave. I've booked an hotel for you. Veronica will be moving in so please don't take your time. I'll find you a new house in the meantime. So do take care of yourself." He said turning his back at me once more and making his exit as I say down still trying to process his words. I shook my head. "Julian," I called out as he already reached the door. I struggled to get up and ran after him, but before I could reach him, the door slammed shut in my face.REBECCA My heart was racing. As I recalled my conversation with Dominic. I really did just agree to a contract marriage with this man and I was neither drunk or high. And it was all because of Julian, pissing me off about apologising to Veronica. My hand dragged at my collar and it felt hot in Dominic's car. I sat in the back with him while his secretary sat at front with the driver and neither of us said another word since our agreement.Soon, the car stopped right in front of my hotel and I instantly felt a bit of relief at least the awkward tension was going to end. My hand reached for the door."One moment." Dominic interrupted me, taking off his seatbelt as the strong scent of his cologne hits my nostrils and suddenly I was taken back to moments of that night. And instead of the drunken memory of Julian I could actually see Dominic. In that moment the atmosphere got hotter but I felt my seatbelt get unstrapped and my door unlock.I looked out to see the door opened a bit and ba
REBECCA "If it involves giving you my body. I'll rather not take this offer." I said as Dominic laughed letting go of my hair. “Don’t worry, Rebecca. You may not need to do that just yet perhaps later, if the need arises,” Dominic said, as my face contorted into a frown. The playful air around him faded almost instantly. “I need a wife,” he continued. “The Chairman, my grandfather is threatening my position of succession if I don’t get married and give him an heir. And you seem like the perfect candidate for my bride.” I couldn’t help but feel offended. “How desperate do you think I am, Dominic?” I asked. “What makes you think I’m not desperate as well? Are you even considering my offer?” he replied. “And that makes it all the more insulting. Do you know what people will say about me?” I spat, steadying my breath. “A gold-digging tramp who sold her body to the highest bidder. Your offer is surely tempting, but I can’t accept it, Mr. Hayes. I can get my mother’s company without
REBECCA There is this rumor about Dominic Hayes. He never brings his one night stands over to his apartment. He was one never to mix business with pleasure. Maybe that's why he was doing so well in the business world. I thought that rule applied to me and with the note I left behind, I shouldn't even be setting foot in this apartment. The loud stomping of shoes heading in my direction caught my attention, and slowly, I traced the sound to him, the man of the moment.Dominic’s eyes lingered on me, as if undressing me, and flashes of that night flickered through my mind.“Rebecca,” he said, taking off his jacket and handing it to the woman who brought me here. She accepted it with a small smile, tuckening it under her arm with a red string envelope, gracefully moving to loosen his tie.“No need, Ava,” he halts her with a flick of his wrist. She looked stunned—this was probably the first time he’d asked her not to bother. She paused for a moment, processing it, before retreating behind
REBECCA Crestwell Enterprises was passed to my mother by her father. She was his only child after all his sons died in a ghastly accident. The board members didn't want a woman running the company and almost took it from her but she fought for it, even when my father almost took it from her.And now, Julian was trying to get me to sign away my shares and my name as the proprietor for a meager 300 million dollars as alimony.I looked over to the lawyers at the table, their eyes eagerly waiting for me to sign it."Julian must surely take me for a fool." I hiss slamming the pen to the desk."Miss..""I don't want to hear it." I cut off my own lawyer. "This is ridiculous Benedict. Why should I sign this? When the bastard isn't even here to request such to my face." I hissed, irritation etch to my face."Miss Jillian, Julian is on his way." They've repeated this almost five times now.I get up from my seat and turn to Benedict."Benedict you handle things from here. Since the bastard can
