Chapter 4: Please Stay in Your Place

Lucy POV

I never expected the family gathering that night to end up with me meeting Luke at the hospital so often, even though we'd never crossed paths at work before. It made me think that he was deliberately doing something to make us meet at every opportunity.

The problem was that this was not normal, my fellow residents had noticed that I was getting special attention from Luke just because he greeted me while being indifferent to others. Not to mention the several times he'd asked me where I was at the nurse station when I was off.

"Lucy, you were looked for by Dr. Luke yesterday. I don't know why the surgeon was looking for you but you should see him," one of my colleagues said.

I was going to see him, but not to have a nice talk because I was sure it wouldn't work. I wanted to emphasize my boundaries to him.

Luckily there was no one in his room so I was able to enter. He was staring at his computer screen when I stepped in.

"Why are you being weird? Stay like your old self who doesn't know me."

His gaze slipped from the computer screen. "I can't, I knew you already."

I chuckled, "I mean pretend that we don't know each other. Besides, the entire hospital staff won't know that our parents are getting married so it should be safe. You don't need to be nice to me to make a good image so you can be labeled as a good brother."

"I don't do things because of other people's judgment. You've misjudged me, Dr. Lucy."

"Then what are you trying to do? Explain it to me so I can understand your purpose."

He stood up and walked behind me, then turned the chair I was sitting on around to face him. "I think I'm attracted to you, I like you."

I was silent for a while before finally laughing. It was the funniest line I'd heard all day. "So?"

"I'm just telling you."

"And I'm not responsible for your feelings. If you love me though, that's your business."

I wanted to stand up but he didn't move. Instead, he leaned his face forward until there was only an inch of distance between us. "Do you have a boyfriend again? Or did you get back with your ex who was such a jerk? What exactly happened that night with you guys that made you so angry?"

There was no way I was going to tell him that the psychiatrist and human resources director was having sex with my boyfriend and I had caught them. As embarrassed as I was, he didn't deserve to know. So I just let out a long sigh.

"Really I don't care what you do in this hospital, but please don't bring up my name. I just want peace by working here. So please help me have that peace, Dr. Luke.”

He finally stepped out of my way. I was supposed to be happy but when I stood up and inhaled the scent of his shampoo, I suddenly felt extremely nauseous so I ran straight to the sink in the room.

I threw up all the food I ate today. Honestly, it's so disgusting especially when Luke is watching my vomit while rolling my hair up to avoid getting splashed.

"Are you sick? What are you feeling?"

I also don't know why I'm suddenly vomiting and nauseous when I was fine before. I ate three meals a day and I got enough sleep. So I could conclude that I was fine. "None of your business, doc."

"It is now my business. I'm a doctor and you vomited in my room all of a sudden. It wasn't like the night you got drunk, now you're vomiting for no reason. I tried to analyze your condition, so don't tell me it's none of my business. You might be poisoned or something happened to your intestines and stomach."

"Maybe I'm exhausted," I replied as if I could get away from him. "I'm going home to rest."

"I'll take you home."

"No need to try to get along with me, I'm used to being alone." Then I ran straight out.

Surprisingly, after that I didn't feel nauseous anymore. I thought it might have been the air freshener that I didn't get along with until one of the nurses from the mother and child department hurriedly ran up to me.

"Doctor, what date is it?"

"January 11, why?"

Oh shit! I just realized that I haven't had my period for a month. Oh this can't be what I thought, right? There's no way I....

"You have a scheduled consultation with a senior doctor. You told me to remind you."

I ran back. Not to see the senior doctor but because I had to confirm something. So I left the nurse and took one of the pregnancy test kits then went to the bathroom and locked it.

My hands were shaking so much waiting for the results to come out.

God, please don't give me this kind of hardship. Father going into rehab, mother having to remarry, and boyfriend betraying me is enough, please don't add to it by getting pregnant with my future stepbrother.

But my body went limp when I saw the test results. It turned out that I was positively pregnant.
