Chapter 5: Who's the Baby Daddy?

Lucy POV

I've been in a daze since finding out that I'm pregnant with Luke's child. I didn't even listen properly to my counseling today.

My life is completely shattered. I don't know what way to go about this.

I can't abort my pregnancy because it's against my heart. As an upcoming pediatrician, I can't possibly kill an innocent fetus, I don't have the heart. But on the other hand, I couldn't possibly tell Luke or mom about this. I had to hide it from them. Because I don't want mom's wedding to be canceled because of this, everything has been prepared and it's only three days away.

I feel like my head is going to explode from all the problems I have to deal with right now.

I wiped away the tears that accidentally fell as I put on my coat to prepare to go home. Staying too long in this room isn't good for me because the memory replayed again. I had almost forgotten Matthew but in this condition he would definitely laugh at me. I can't see him again, I don't want him to accuse me of cheating.

But it’s too late now, Matthew is here. He stood behind me.

"I asked the nurse and she said you were almost home so I followed you here immediately."

I heard the sound of his footsteps getting closer. Right now for some reason my body is hard to move and I can only clench my hands into fists.

"Lucy, I regret my decision back then. I want you to know that it was the first time I did it with Doctor Rue, really. I never had any intention of fooling you or playing you. I love you so much and look forward to our engagement."

Engagement he said? He thinks I still want him after he slept with another woman? Don't even think about it! Cheating is a disease and it won't heal even if he promises.

I finally turned around to look at him. "You want to get slapped again? You said you didn't intend to? You slept with that woman goddamn it. Now you regret it? Why? Because you're afraid that I spreading the news of your cheating to everyone so you said you loved me when you slept with another woman? Did you even think about my feelings at that time? Didn't you? The answer is obvious, the mistake was yours so you deserve to regret it for the rest of your life, Matt. Get out of my way!"

"I won't let you go until you take my word for it." He grabbed my hand and gripped it.

I bit his hand with all my might and ran after him. The crazy thing was that he was chasing me.

I had no choice but to go to the emergency stairs because there was no way I was going to run in front of a patient like in a movie.

"Stop Lucy, you'll fall down if you keep running. Let's talk about it with a cool head."

Cool-headed he said? Only cowardly men have no stand and don't deserve a loyal woman who cheats on their partner. Does he expect me to listen to his excuses? That's impossible. Besides wasting time, I don't want to get involved with him again, I'm sick of it.

"Our relationship ended that night so stop explaining it because I don't need it!"

Right after saying that, I finally reached the ground floor, the basement for parking. So without thinking I ran straight to my car. Unfortunately Matthew caught me and he pulled me into his car.

Of course I rebelled because I know what he's like when he's mad. He can hit anything in front of him and I don't want to be his punching bag. So I made one more attempt to step on his foot.

He did let go of me, but only for a moment because afterward he pulled my legs until I fell down. Luckily I was able to protect my stomach with my hands.

"Don't make me an asshole, sweetheart. I've asked you to talk nicely but you keep running away as if we were never that close before."

"I regret ever knowing you, Matt! You're worse than the devil!"

He slapped me, making a very loud sound. My body froze instantly. My cheeks felt numb and sore.

"You fucking asshole!"

That's Luke's voice!

I don't know where he came from, but he saved me by pushing Matthew away.

They got into a fight that could not be prevented. Luke beat Matthew severely with great ease while Matthew lay on the floor with blood on his lips and nose.

"It's payback for slapping her!" Luke slapped Matthew's cheek with all his might which made a louder sound than Matthew's slap to me. Not just once, but he slapped him a total of 5 times.

"Stop, Luke!" I shouted. Fuck if I didn't call him politely, I just wanted him to stop because he could put Matthew into a coma if it continued.

Thankfully Luke listened to me. He finally moved away from Matthew's body and came over to me. He touched the wound on my cheek which made me wince.

"You rejected my offer just to end up like this? Next time listen to what I said. I'm saying this as your stepbrother, not as your senior. So take your brother's word for it, do you understand?"

I nodded unconsciously.

Luke, he.... I was intimidated by him. He's the only person who can make me obey that easily and I'm very curious why that's possible.

"Why are you nice to me? I know you don't like my mother but why not with me? It's not because we had sex right?"

"I like your analysis but it's wrong. I've already said why, I'm attracted to you, so I don't think I need to make up another reason."

"People can misunderstand and you can put me in a difficult situation. I've had enough of--" I almost let it slip. "I'm ashamed of my mother and my ex-boyfriend's behavior so don't add to my burden, do you get it?"

"From now on your burden is my burden. As brothers we have to help each other, right? I don't accept rejection, so just follow my play."

It's not like a game that can be repeated if it goes wrong. His thought was wrong because I didn't want anyone to know our status.

"Okay whatever you want to be interested in me or whatever, my only request is one, don't let the people in the hospital know that we're going to be a family."
