MasukASHLEY
I slapped her hand off and staggered back in horror, my throat knotting.
“What are you saying?" I whispered in a grave tone, still trying to get out of the hold of confusion.
Lilian's smile never left her face as she pulled closer.
“You still don't get it, do you?” She muttered.
My head swerved to Alex's direction, and the smile on his face caused anger to wash through me. He and Lilian shared the same kind of smile. That evil, cunning smile that could throw you off your feet.
It slowly made sense to me as I stood there in the middle of accusers and haters. Lilian was never on my side.
I chuckled at the realization and raised my dropped head to look at her with eyes full of tears.
“So, it's been you all this time?" I muttered and staggered to her, ready to drag her down with me.
The moment I parted my lips to speak, a slap hit my face.
My eyes rolled up as gasps filled the air.
“How dare you! I trusted you so much, Ash, yet I never knew you'd leave your husband to come after my boyfriend!" She spat, and my eyes widened in disbelief.
I jerked my head up and growled loudly in frustration.
“Stop lying, Lilian!"
"I do have proof,” Alex spoke up, and I swerved my head in his direction, glaring hatefully at him.
He stepped forward, his phone raised.
“I saw you two hugging intimately just before the party began, so I took a picture to question you when the party ended, but it seems God…”
“God?" I scoffed loudly, shaking my head as tears blinded my vision.
“You have no right to mention him with that mouth of yours. Have some shame, Alex. Is this how you plan to get rid of me after everything I did to get you to the top?" I snapped at him, and his face paled.
He quickly darted his eyes to Lilian, then back at me.
“I guess you're hellbent on playing the victim card," he muttered and clicked on something in his phone, then raised it for everyone to see.
There, on his phone, was the photo of Simon hugging me when I stepped out of the house.
“Simon and I are just friends, and I don't see anything wrong with hugging a friend, do you?" I tried to defend myself, but the disgust on people's faces broke my confidence. But I wasn't ready to give up until I had cleared my name. I turned to the guest, my hands clasped together.
“You all need to believe me, please–”
“Enough!" Alex growled and smashed his phone on the ground, then marched towards me and gripped my shoulders.
My heart was crushed as I stared at his burning eyes.
“When will you give it up, Ashley! I tried so hard to save your reputation and our marriage, but you're hell-bent on ruining me. Yes, you were one of the reasons why I made it to where I am now, but did you have to take advantage of that to cheat and make a mockery of me with your best friend's boyfriend? I loved you, I trusted you, yet this is how you pay me back?” He growled, his nails sinking into my flesh.
I stared at him, dumbstruck.
He repeated the words I had told him when I found out he was cheating.
He had dragged me down to the point where there was no way I could ever convince these people.
Murmurs filled the hall, and sneers from the guests hit me from all sides.
Yet, I couldn't give up and let him win.
“You're lying," I whispered in a quivering voice.
He huffed and pushed me off, then wiped the fake tears that dropped from his eyes before looking around like he was searching for someone.
“Okay then, let's hear from your dear lover," he said, and my belly knotted.
Simon was dragged into the hall by the security guards, and my jaw dropped.
“He was trying to run away, sir," the head of the guards reported as they pushed him to the ground.
“I'm not surprised! It's over between us, Simon!" Lilian spat, and I scoffed.
The relationship had never been real anyway. I thought she was my friend, but she turned out to be my worst enemy.
“I'm sorry, Lilian, I really wanted to tell you…” Simon began, and my eyes widened.
“Tell her what?" I snapped.
"The truth!” Simon growled, and my jaw dropped.
“What are you saying?" I whispered, mortified.
Simon staggered up and faced the guest while faking a cry and guilt.
“It is true, Ashley and I are in a secret relationship," he blurted out, and the hall went into an uproar. I gasped loudly and gripped my tightening chest, filled with disbelief.
Simon betrayed me, too? He was also part of Alex and Lilian's plan to make me the cheater? It finally made sense to me why he pulled me into that hug. It was all a staged act.
“I never wanted to do this in the first place, but she promised me money and properties. We were supposed to keep it a secret…”
I couldn't take the lies anymore. I lurched forward and spun the bastard around, then slapped him hard on the face. His face scrunched up in pain, and he dropped to the ground, his hand on his reddened cheek.
“How much did your girlfriend and my husband pay you to destroy my life?" I growled.
"Shut up, Ashley, you have no shame!” One of the women spat at me.
“She is so disgusting."
"I can't believe I was comparing myself to a shameless cheater.”
“Her poor best friend must be regretting.”
My head swirled and I staggered back, gripping my dress and gasping for breath.
I kept staggering back while their words pierced me like two-edged, venomous blades.
I stopped walking when I got to where Lilian was and looked at her. She raised her brows and smirked sinisterly.
“You think you got away? You think you've won?" I whispered, and she chuckled.
She leaned close to my ear and whispered, "I've always won. Your career as an actress has become mine, and soon, your husband, wealth, and respect will become mine. You've lost Ashley, you've lost.”
I pushed her away from me, glaring hatefully at her while tears streamed down my face.
I looked at Alex and spat out without thinking twice, “I want a divorce!"
ASHLEY “Lilian Montgomery is facing massive backlash from fans following false accusations involving her best friend, Ashley Carter.”The entertainment news from the broadcast channel playing on my television forced me to look up, a sly smile on my face.“Cheers to that," I muttered as I raised the filled glass of wine.I gulped it down and got up, then grabbed my coat and shades to shield me from the camera flashes.Of everyone to help me escape that dinner that night, it turned out to be Skylar Morgan. He had come with his little sister for dinner when he called.I didn't know how he got my number, but I was grateful he had it at that moment to save me.I had muttered a thank you to him when I met him in the corridor and had promised his sister a dinner at my place tonight for keeping her waiting."Ugh!” I groaned and slapped my hand over my forehead.I had regretted my words the minute they left my lips, but what more could I do? I made a promise when I was happy, and now I have t
ASHLEY“You planned this, didn't you?" I asked.Chloe's smile fell, and she darted a knowing glance at Lilian, fidgeting slightly."Look, Ashley–”I scoffed, cutting her off.“You're so sly!" I spat and turned to look at Lilian, the anger still in my eyes.Lilian smiled wider, tilting her head to the side."I forced her to do it. It's not her fault,” she said, and my belly knotted. “So, why do you want me here? To continue from where you stopped at the party?" I asked. The people at the other tables were now staring at us, but said nothing or took photos. The smile on her face faded, and she took a step, her eyes staring deep into mine. I didn't look away or flinch from her gaze. I didn't care about what she would do next. She had done the worst she could do anyway. My heart skipped a beat as she gripped my hand, her eyes softening.“I never knew Simon would try to hurt you that way. Please, forgive me for the way I behaved with you and mistreated you. I had the wrong idea about you.
ASHLEYShe was giving off a complete Lauren vibe, but I knew it was not Lauren. Not even a miracle would have made Lauren call me this way, but part of me wished it were a miracle and that it was Lauren.“I'm sorry, I'm a mess in recognizing people," I muttered.“Ah, yes, the only thing you can ever remember is a movie script," she said.My eyes dimmed, and I tilted my head to the side. I was sure I had heard that taunt somewhere."Oh, come on, Ash!” She groaned. My eyes slammed shut, and I ransacked my mind for any memory of someone who sounded that annoying aside from Lauren, but came up with none."It's Chloe! Chloe, Ash!” She snapped and clicked her tongue. My eyes widened, and I let out a gasp.I slapped my hand over my mouth, my brows raised in surprise.“I was not expecting it to be you!" I gasped, slipping into a smile before I knew it.“I know. We had quite a bad history back in college, so I'm not surprised that you have no good memory of me," she said, and I chuckled.“I he
ASHLEY“You don't have to worry about anything else. I'll take care of the transfer, and since the paperwork isn't ready yet, you'll have to sign another day, but for now, we need to get her transferred," Jasper said as we walked down the corridor after getting Doctor Nicholas's approval."Thank you for helping, Jasper,” I said, and he hummed softly, nodding his head.We paused in front of the elevator, waiting for it to open. I rubbed my arm, suddenly feeling nervous.“Uhm…” Jasper cleared his throat, and my heart gave a skip.I gulped hard and fixed my eyes on the button on the elevator, avoiding his eyes, which were obviously fixed on me.I knew he wanted to say something. Something that would surely have to do with his relationship status and what the man had said in the office, and I wasn't ready to hear any of it.He drew closer, rubbing his feet on mine. My heart raced as I stared down at our feet.“Uhm… about what happened in the office–”The door to the elevator pulled open,
ASHLEYMy breath hitched at his words, and I slowly turned my head to look at Jasper. He was flushed red as he avoided my eyes.“He didn't tell you?" The man chuckled and leaned back into his seat."What a shame,” he clicked his tongue.I clenched my fist, staring at him while burning deep inside of me. I didn't know if I was more enraged that Jasper lied to me about his relationship status or at the man using it as a gotcha moment to mock me, even though he knew nothing about me.“I'm sorry, sir, but you seem to be mistaken," I blurted out, and his smile faded. He looked at me, brows raised in question."Ah, you're still not ready to accept–”“I don't care about Mr Jasper's personal life. I'm not even his friend to begin with,” I said, and he scoffed in disbelief."I am only here because of my friend, not for some relationship,” I said, my gaze hardening. He ran his eyes over my body, finally staying calm.He looked away and continued to sort files, embarrassed."Thank you,” Jasper w
ASHLEY“Jasper!" I gasped and didn't think twice before leaping into his arms. I wrapped my hands tightly around him and cried into his chest, letting out all my frustration on him.Jasper stiffened, not asking me what was going on or pushing me away. He just stood there, hands by his side, body as stiff as that of a log, but that didn't make me pull away either.I sobbed, my heart aching in pain and guilt as the doctor's words echoed in my head. This was all my fault. It was my fucking fault that Lauren was in there battling for her life.Perhaps, if I had listened to him and stayed at the hospital, this wouldn't have happened to her. I would have seen her call and picked her up myself. She would have avoided the accident.“Oh, Jasper, I'm fucked up," I whispered, hitting my fist softly on his chest."I knew that the moment I saw you,” he muttered, leaving a fake chuckle at the end of his words.Footsteps approached us, and he wrapped his hand around my waist and pulled me back into
