LOGINASHLEY
I slapped her hand off and staggered back in horror, my throat knotting.
“What are you saying?" I whispered in a grave tone, still trying to get out of the hold of confusion.
Lilian's smile never left her face as she pulled closer.
“You still don't get it, do you?” She muttered.
My head swerved to Alex's direction, and the smile on his face caused anger to wash through me. He and Lilian shared the same kind of smile. That evil, cunning smile that could throw you off your feet.
It slowly made sense to me as I stood there in the middle of accusers and haters. Lilian was never on my side.
I chuckled at the realization and raised my dropped head to look at her with eyes full of tears.
“So, it's been you all this time?" I muttered and staggered to her, ready to drag her down with me.
The moment I parted my lips to speak, a slap hit my face.
My eyes rolled up as gasps filled the air.
“How dare you! I trusted you so much, Ash, yet I never knew you'd leave your husband to come after my boyfriend!" She spat, and my eyes widened in disbelief.
I jerked my head up and growled loudly in frustration.
“Stop lying, Lilian!"
"I do have proof,” Alex spoke up, and I swerved my head in his direction, glaring hatefully at him.
He stepped forward, his phone raised.
“I saw you two hugging intimately just before the party began, so I took a picture to question you when the party ended, but it seems God…”
“God?" I scoffed loudly, shaking my head as tears blinded my vision.
“You have no right to mention him with that mouth of yours. Have some shame, Alex. Is this how you plan to get rid of me after everything I did to get you to the top?" I snapped at him, and his face paled.
He quickly darted his eyes to Lilian, then back at me.
“I guess you're hellbent on playing the victim card," he muttered and clicked on something in his phone, then raised it for everyone to see.
There, on his phone, was the photo of Simon hugging me when I stepped out of the house.
“Simon and I are just friends, and I don't see anything wrong with hugging a friend, do you?" I tried to defend myself, but the disgust on people's faces broke my confidence. But I wasn't ready to give up until I had cleared my name. I turned to the guest, my hands clasped together.
“You all need to believe me, please–”
“Enough!" Alex growled and smashed his phone on the ground, then marched towards me and gripped my shoulders.
My heart was crushed as I stared at his burning eyes.
“When will you give it up, Ashley! I tried so hard to save your reputation and our marriage, but you're hell-bent on ruining me. Yes, you were one of the reasons why I made it to where I am now, but did you have to take advantage of that to cheat and make a mockery of me with your best friend's boyfriend? I loved you, I trusted you, yet this is how you pay me back?” He growled, his nails sinking into my flesh.
I stared at him, dumbstruck.
He repeated the words I had told him when I found out he was cheating.
He had dragged me down to the point where there was no way I could ever convince these people.
Murmurs filled the hall, and sneers from the guests hit me from all sides.
Yet, I couldn't give up and let him win.
“You're lying," I whispered in a quivering voice.
He huffed and pushed me off, then wiped the fake tears that dropped from his eyes before looking around like he was searching for someone.
“Okay then, let's hear from your dear lover," he said, and my belly knotted.
Simon was dragged into the hall by the security guards, and my jaw dropped.
“He was trying to run away, sir," the head of the guards reported as they pushed him to the ground.
“I'm not surprised! It's over between us, Simon!" Lilian spat, and I scoffed.
The relationship had never been real anyway. I thought she was my friend, but she turned out to be my worst enemy.
“I'm sorry, Lilian, I really wanted to tell you…” Simon began, and my eyes widened.
“Tell her what?" I snapped.
"The truth!” Simon growled, and my jaw dropped.
“What are you saying?" I whispered, mortified.
Simon staggered up and faced the guest while faking a cry and guilt.
“It is true, Ashley and I are in a secret relationship," he blurted out, and the hall went into an uproar. I gasped loudly and gripped my tightening chest, filled with disbelief.
Simon betrayed me, too? He was also part of Alex and Lilian's plan to make me the cheater? It finally made sense to me why he pulled me into that hug. It was all a staged act.
“I never wanted to do this in the first place, but she promised me money and properties. We were supposed to keep it a secret…”
I couldn't take the lies anymore. I lurched forward and spun the bastard around, then slapped him hard on the face. His face scrunched up in pain, and he dropped to the ground, his hand on his reddened cheek.
“How much did your girlfriend and my husband pay you to destroy my life?" I growled.
"Shut up, Ashley, you have no shame!” One of the women spat at me.
“She is so disgusting."
"I can't believe I was comparing myself to a shameless cheater.”
“Her poor best friend must be regretting.”
My head swirled and I staggered back, gripping my dress and gasping for breath.
I kept staggering back while their words pierced me like two-edged, venomous blades.
I stopped walking when I got to where Lilian was and looked at her. She raised her brows and smirked sinisterly.
“You think you got away? You think you've won?" I whispered, and she chuckled.
She leaned close to my ear and whispered, "I've always won. Your career as an actress has become mine, and soon, your husband, wealth, and respect will become mine. You've lost Ashley, you've lost.”
I pushed her away from me, glaring hatefully at her while tears streamed down my face.
I looked at Alex and spat out without thinking twice, “I want a divorce!"
ASHLEY “Cheers!” Our glasses clinked and everyone gulped down their glass of wine. Lauren had thrown a small party on my behalf to celebrate my success and the inheritance of the company. I had only invited a few of my actor friends and other people I got close to after my return. I had also sent an invitation to Lillian but she rejected it. I was glad she did, though, I was planning to embarrass and mock her in front of everyone. “Congratulations, sweetheart,” Chloe stepped forward with a wrapped box. My lips twitched up in a smile as I took the gift from her. “Thank you,” I muttered. “You're about to become a billionaire,” she said as she tilted her head to the side and watched me. I chuckled at her words, my cheeks staining with pride. “You're flattering me, Chloe,” I muttered. She laughed and gave a hug before walking off to chat with her friends present. My gaze shifted to my brother who was standing in front of the cellar, a glass of whiskey in his hand and his ey
ASHLEY The room went silent the moment I walked in.Margaret had insisted on having my father's will read out tonight. Since no one would listen to me, I had no choice but to silently agree.I knew everything was going to go in their favor and I would have to move out of the family house completely. It would be my last night stepping into this house.I took a deep breath, returned the glares of everyone in the large room, and sat down at the far end of the room, away from everyone.I could hear Margaret chuckle mockingly under her breath when I sat down.I was sure she had a party prepared to be launched after the company and all of father's property would be announced to be her son’s“I didn't expect you to show up after the embarrassment you made our family face,” Aunt Jessica blurted out.My lip stretched into a smile as I turned my head to look at her.“You mean the embarrassment my father's son made your family face?” I muttered, stressing the word ‘your’.She frowned deeply alo
ASHLEY My chest tightened when the voice of my father's son filled the garden. I stood frozen, staring at the entrance of the garden while murmurs and shrieks surrounded me. My fist clenched as he staggered into the garden, a grin on his face. He staggered fully in, his eyes narrowing and his feet trembling. He looked like a tout in those stupid, colorful clothes, and his hair was a mess, a spiky mess. I clenched my jaw, glaring hatefully at him as he staggered deeper into the garden, his grin widening when his eyes shifted in my direction. “Hello everyone! Inam back!” He growled and my face heated in embarrassment. “Is that your brother?” Lauren whispered, mockery evident in her voice. I sighed out, closing my eyes as anger roared through me. Margaret walked briskly towards her son and gripped his arm, whispering words to him. The grin on his face faded and he looked at me. Our eyes locked and I could swear I saw hatred dash across those eyes. I wasn't surprised. That was al
ASHLEY I didn't know what to do as I stood there, dumbstruck and confused. My heart was racing in my chest, my belly was twisted in horror and I felt a sinking, weakening feeling enveloping every part of me. I gulped hard, my throat still dry and tight as I stared at the necklace. She was the one who had bought the second one. How was that possible? Why didn't I know all this while? I gasped and began to draw closer, slower this time. Before I could get closer to where she stood so I could question her, someone grabbed my hand from behind and dragged me out of the place. My heart dropped into the bottom of my belly and rage sparked through me as I struggled to get the hands of whoever was holding me off my wrist. From the corner of my eyes as I struggled, I saw Margaret turn in the direction of the place I once stood. “Let go of me!" I spat and jerked my hand away from his grip. The person turned and it turned out to be Skylar. I scoffed, disappointed that it wasn't Michae
ASHLEYMichael let go of my hand when his friends came over to greet him. We were back at the funeral party being hosted in my father's garden. That was his favorite part of the garden. It irritated me that that was the part Margaret decided to throw her stupid party. I knew behind those black dresses and small talk, there was happiness and excitement. All I'd heard since I was standing here was the possibility of the inheritance becoming Margaret's and her children's.Everyone at the party had pretended like Michael and I didn't exist. Even though Michael wasn't interested in things like that, he was obviously pissed to see the direction of every conversation we decided to be part of.I sighed and rubbed my wrist, glancing at the flowers my father was watering the day I came to see him. The last day I saw him alive and smiling.“Miss Carter." I turned when someone mentioned my name behind me.The smile that I was about to throw onto my face disappeared when my eyes fell on Mrs. Morg
ASHLEYI watched silently with a heavy heart as they lowered the gold coffin into the ground. Margaret wailed loudly beside me, and Karen followed along with their false cries.I pinned my blurry gaze on the casket, barely batting an eyelid over the people who gathered to console their fake cries. If I should bat an eyelid, tears would definitely slip out of my eyes and expose the weakest part of me.I sighed and closed my eyes, feeling that pain-filled sting in my chest.“To ashes we come, to ashes we return," the priest said, and the people chorused a quivering Amen.I sucked in a deep breath, gripping the hem of my black dress as they began to lay him down in a place I would never see him again. My throat burned in pain and rage, and my heart ached so badly that I feared it would burst out in flames. I shouldn't have stared, but I did anyway. I wanted to watch as they buried him. I wanted to feel that pain, that rage. I wanted to taste that unquenchable thirst of vengeance.I stood
ASHLEY My heart clenched when he said those words, but slowly my lips slanted into a smile, and my shoulders stiffened so hard that I felt pain hit me there. I composed before spinning around to face him. The man's eyes were still on him, pleading silently that I don't bring out that phone to ca
ASHLEY “Are you even listening?" Lauren's voice broke through the thoughts in my head and I looked up. "Yes,” I muttered, nodding to the obvious lie. Her lips thinned and she shot her head back, her eyes narrowing. "When did you start to lie so shamelessly?” She spat and my throat knotted. My
LILIAN I screamed for the fourth time, shattering another glassware I could get my hands on.I ruffled my hair and slumped down to the ground, puffing out air while trying to calm down the anger boiling in me. All the maids had disappeared from my sight to avoid my wrath.I just needed that bastar
ASHLEY I slowly looked down from where I was standing and saw Skylar but he wasn't alone. His mom was standing right before him."I don't know what you're talking about!” Skylar spat at his mom.Her lips twitched up in anger and she released a scoff."Really? Did you fall in love with her so much
