Chapter Three – Nicholas’s Shock

(Nicholas’s POV)

I had expected drama. Tears, pleading, maybe even anger. Anything but calm.

But when Celeste signed the papers without a single word, I froze. My mind couldn’t process it. She didn’t yell, didn’t cry, didn’t try to fight me. She just… signed it. Smoothly, carefully, almost… deliberately.

I rubbed my face, trying to calm the shock. My pride stung. I had imagined her falling apart, begging me to stay, proving to me how much she loved me. But she hadn’t. Nothing. Just a quiet submission that didn’t feel like submission at all.

“Isn’t that what I wanted?” I muttered to myself, trying to rationalize it.

“Fine. Let me grant Isabella her last wish. Then I can come back to her. After she’s gone, everything will be perfect again.”

That thought calmed me slightly. If I married Isabella, I could do right by her and, in return, become the son-in-law of the wealthiest CEO in the country. Everything I had been planning… it was still possible. Everything was still within my control.

I picked up the food Celeste had cooked. She had made it so perfectly — her attention to detail, the flavors just right. Part of me felt guilty for taking it away from her. But part of me told myself it didn’t matter. It was just food. It didn’t carry her heart anymore.

I drove to the hospital. The roads were empty in the late night, my mind buzzing with thoughts. Celeste had been calm, unnervingly calm. I couldn’t stop thinking about the precision in her actions. She had packed her suitcase, signed the papers, and given me no reason to doubt her obedience.

As I parked outside the hospital, I took a deep breath. I was prepared for the usual Isabella: frail, tired, and waiting for me like a patient who needed saving. I had rehearsed every word I would say, every gentle gesture I would make. I would make her feel safe, comfort her, and reaffirm that I would do everything for her.

But the moment I stepped inside, everything shifted.

Isabella… she was moving around. Playing. Laughing. Active. Full of energy.

I froze mid-step. My mind couldn’t catch up. What… what is this? I had seen her only as sick, barely able to leave her bed. And now, she was completely different — lively, strong, vibrant. Was she pretending all this time? Or… had she suddenly recovered?

She didn’t notice me at first. I stepped closer, still in shock. My chest tightened. This wasn’t what I had planned. None of this made sense.

Then she looked up and saw me. Her eyes widened in surprise.

“I didn’t expect you to come,” she said softly. Her voice carried no hint of weakness. “As… as she signed the divorce papers…” She stammered slightly, as if realizing what she had just said.

“Yes,” I said, trying to steady my voice. “She signed it. I just… saw you playing so well. What’s going on?”

Her expression froze. She blinked rapidly, as if trying to find words that made sense. Then she stammered again:

“Well… well…” Her cheeks flushed slightly, but there was something else there. Confidence. Control. “The most important thing now is that we are together. Let’s go get our marriage certificate.”

I blinked. My mind stalled. Did she just… say that?

Marriage certificate? Together? She was… healthy? Active? Completely opposite of the frail, helpless woman I had prepared to marry tonight. The image I had carried in my head for years — the sick, delicate Isabella — crumbled in an instant.

I swallowed hard. My throat was dry. This isn’t the Isabella I know. Something is wrong.

Her sudden vitality, the boldness in her voice, the way she carried herself… I didn’t recognize it. My control was slipping, and for the first time in years, I felt uncertain.

I wanted to speak. To question her, to demand an explanation. But the words caught in my throat.

She smiled at me — confident, radiant, unbothered. And I realized that every calculation I had made about her illness, her fragility, and her dependence on me… might be completely wrong.

The room spun slightly, and I forced myself to take a step forward. “Isabella… what happened? You… you’re so… lively. Are you… really okay?”

She looked at me, her eyes sparkling with an unreadable emotion. “I’m fine. Better than ever, actually. The important thing is that we are together now.”

My mind raced. Questions, doubts, and suspicion collided. Was she pretending all this time? Had she been hiding her true condition? Or… was this some kind of trap?

Well, whatever it’s, I am going to have her and also if I become the son in law of the wealthiest man, the wealth, company and everything will totally become mine.

  • Good-For-Nothing Husband   Nicholas’s Uneasy Silence

Chapter Seven – Nicholas’s Uneasy Silence (Nicholas POV) I stood frozen near the boutique, holding Isabella’s hand, but my mind wasn’t on her. Every sound, every movement around me seemed distant. All I could think about was Celeste. Why… why would Isabella suddenly have her arrested? Even though I knew I shouldn’t interfere — even though deep down I had promised myself to support Isabella for the next year — a part of me ached. A part of me wanted to run to Celeste, to stop this madness. I hated that I couldn’t. My pride, my plan, the promise to Isabella — all of it stopped me. But my stomach tightened with every second that went by. Something inside me screamed that this wasn’t right. I watched the officers lead her away, her calm face unreadable. She didn’t panic. She didn’t cry. Not even a flicker of fear. That calm… it was unnerving. Then I heard murmurs in the crowd. Flashing cameras. Whispers spreading faster than wildfire. And then… I saw them. Isabella’s parents. The

Chapter Six – Collision at the Mall (Celeste POV) The mall was bustling, full of weekend shoppers, the smell of fresh coffee and luxury perfume mixing in the air. I walked through the main corridor with Bean by my side, calm and collected. My heels clicked on the marble floor as I glanced at the high-end stores, casually pretending to browse. But then… I saw him. Nicholas. And not just Nicholas — Nicholas with Isabella, holding her hand, laughing softly, looking completely at ease. My stomach twisted. For a moment, I thought about turning around and leaving, slipping quietly back into the shadows. But it was too late. He had already seen me. His eyes widened, and that familiar, complicated look — the one that used to haunt my dreams — flickered across his face. He started walking toward me, his expression a mixture of surprise, confusion, and something darker I couldn’t name. “You…” he said, stopping just a few steps away. “It’s just a few days after our divorce… and you’re alr

  • Good-For-Nothing Husband   Nicholas’s Conflicted Heart

Chapter Five – Nicholas’s Conflicted Heart (Nicholas’s POV) The marriage certificate felt heavy in my hands, heavier than I had expected. I sat at the small desk in Isabella’s hospital room, staring at the crisp paper. This was it. Proof that I had done what I needed to do. That I was finally fulfilling Isabella’s last wish. And yet… my mind kept wandering. Celeste. Even after all this — after the divorce, after she had calmly signed the papers without a single tear, without a single word of begging — I couldn’t stop thinking about her. That calmness, that control… it haunted me. I could still see her face in my mind, the way she had handed me the papers, eyes steady, almost defiant. Why did she not fight? I wondered. Or was this her way of fighting? I exhaled slowly and reached for my phone. I had to know where she was, what she was doing. Maybe just to hear her voice would calm this restless tension gnawing at me. I dialed her number quickly, hoping for a simple answer. But no

Chapter Four – Celeste’s Arrival Celeste’s POV The car slowed to a halt in front of the mansion, and I stepped out, letting the cool night air brush against my face. For a moment, I just stood there, taking in the place I hadn’t set foot in for years. It was magnificent, sprawling, and everything I had imagined in my quietest dreams. But it was more than that, it was mine now. Every corner, every stone, every detail was a part of the life I had been preparing to reclaim, far from the shadows of Nicholas and his betrayals. As I walked up the grand marble stairs, the staff began to notice me. The moment I entered, the maids, guards, and assistants all stopped their tasks. Their eyes widened briefly, then fell into perfect composure. “Good evening, Miss Celeste,” the head maid said with a respectful bow. “Welcome back.” “Thank you,” I replied softly, nodding once, a small smile touching my lips. I could feel the shift in energy, the atmosphere acknowledged my presence, my return. Th

  • Good-For-Nothing Husband   The Night I Finally Broke

Chapter Two – The Night I Finally Broke (Celeste’s POV) The papers shook in my hand, but I didn’t let them fall. For a long time, I just stood there, staring at the words printed in black. Divorce Agreement. I wanted to cry. I knows I did. But the tears refused to come. My chest felt tight, my throat dry. It was as if my body had forgotten how to feel. I slowly raised my head and looked at Nicholas. He stood there like a stranger — expressionless, detached, as if he’d just handed me a delivery, not the end of our marriage. “Celeste,” he said quietly, “don’t make this harder than it already is.” I almost laughed. Harder? What could possibly be harder than being replaced by a ghost of his past? I swallowed the bitterness burning my throat. “Do you have a pen?” He frowned. “What?” “I said, do you have a pen?” He hesitated for a moment, then reached into his pocket and handed one to me. His hand brushed mine briefly — that familiar warmth that used to mean somet
