As I fastened my gold watch on my wrist, a notification chime from my phone invaded my thoughts, forcing me to look away from the vanity.

My gaze traveled to my phone on the bed, and I picked it up to see that it was a text from Dahlia.

“Hello, Sebastian. While you're still considering your decision, I've decided to reschedule our date to tomorrow night. Be sure to pick me up by 7.”

I scoffed lightly, shaking my head as I tossed my phone back onto the bed. It seemed she was still grappling with the rejection, huh? Even though it had been nearly twenty-four hours since I spelled it out for her that I was going to call off the wedding.

After Dahlia left the previous date, I reconsidered my choice for the umpteenth time, and I finally arrived at a conclusion to reveal everything at dinner tonight—dinner at Grandfather's.

Everyone would be gathered at Grandfather's residence in about an hour, hence the reason I was getting ready.

I checked myself out in the mirror, pushing aside my though

~LYDIA~"Are you ready? I'm almost at your place," I heard Elizabeth's voice through the phone pressed to my ear with the aid of my shoulder.Doing my son's shirt button, I replied tersely, "Yeah, we're almost ready. By the time you get here, we'll be out waiting.""Good, 'cause I don't want you to waste my time. His flight is scheduled to depart by 10 AM."I exhaled heavily, reconsidering my decision to leave with Elizabeth. I mean, this is a mad idea. She was basically coercing me to leave everything I've ever known—except my son—all for her stupid game of revenge."Noted. But Elizabeth..." I called out hesitantly. She answered sharply, "What?""Don't you think this is kind of... absurd?" I asked, avoiding my son's prying gaze."You want to know what's absurd?" she retorted, "it's you lying to the whole fucking industry about who you really are."My heart sank, twisting with despair at her comeback. What was I expecting? Of course, I knew she'd always bring this up—my very secret sh

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    102 ~ A momentary escape

"What's this, Amelia?" I asked, a half-delightful chuckle escaping my lips as I opened my eyes to the beautifully decorated space I could barely recognize as my living room.I glanced around in awe at the transformation Amelia had orchestrated. The old couches had been pushed apart, replaced by a cozy loveseat accommodating three. The area between the couch and television was awash with an array of snacks; popcorn, freshly baked croissants, ice cream, you name it. Everything was perfectly arranged for a romantic evening.Amelia beamed beside me, absorbing my admiration for her handiwork. "I thought, with everything that's been happening, you deserve an escape from reality, even if it’s just for tonight. So... movie night?"My heart melted at her words, and I turned to face her. A smile danced across her lips, her gaze locking with mine."You really didn't have to do this," I whispered, warmth flooding my chest at her thoughtfulness. She was right; I desperately needed a reprieve from

Murmurs of shock and disbelief passed through the room, widening the eyes of each individual whose gaze was now directed at me.A thrilling sensation coursed through me, not because I was now the center of attention, but rather because I had successfully managed to wipe that stupid grin off Jamie's face. His gaze was fixated on me, though his expression remained unreadable. I needed no soothsayer to spell it out for me; he was inwardly processing the truth I had just revealed."What?" My mother was the first to react verbally. "Are you joking?"My sister also interjected, "Yes, Sebastian, is this some sort of joke?"I expelled a whoosh of air, regarding them with a slight smile. "Why, you don't believe?" I asked tauntingly, pleased that I had stirred their emotions tonight."For once in your life, be serious, Sebastian. Is this the truth or not?" my mother snapped, her patience wearing thin.I turned to her and shrugged, carefully delaying my response as I awaited Grandfather's reacti

"Sebastian, welcome! When did you get back?" Auntie Leah, Mom's sister, asked as she pulled me in for a light embrace.I had just entered the dining room and was sure to say it was already filled with my family members, some of whom I was unfamiliar with.Grandfather sat at the head of the table, while my brothers occupied the left side.Mother walked up to me just as I was about to reply to Auntie Leah."Son," Mother threw her arms around me before pulling away. A smile was etched on my face as I regarded them."He got back a few days ago," Mother replied to Auntie Leah instead."Oh, really?""Yes.""Your brother mentioned you went on a business trip. I guess you're back for good then," Auntie Leah pointed out, but I shook my head."Not really—"Mother chimed in, a grin spreading across her face. "He came back because of his future wife."I felt discomfort at her words, but my expression gave nothing away. I merely stood there and watched them converse, with Mother clarifying all of

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    098 ~ Rejecting a rejection

~SEBASTIAN~My car rolled to a halt outside the Douglas mansion. It was Monday evening, so you can easily guess the reason I was there. Our wedding was already scheduled for this Saturday, just five days from now. But I didn’t panic when I had received the news from Mother this morning. It was because that was more than enough time for me to figure things out and call off the wedding.Killing the engine of the vehicle, I gave myself one fleet glance in the rearview mirror. Not that I cared about how she would perceive my appearance when she finally joined me, I was simply ensuring I looked as good as ever.My reflection stared back at me; dark hair slicked away from my forehead and eyes as icy as ever.I wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about this date. I was simply honoring this meeting for grandfather’s sake and also because I held a considerable amount of respect for the Douglas family. Aside from that, I certainly wouldn’t be here at this hour of the evening, 8 PM, to be exact.I leane
