Messy

I cringed at the sound of the bottle shattering and cursed again.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to-“

“It’s fine, It’s just a little wine I shouldn’t have startled you like that-“

“Let me clean that up.” A waiter said, a barely hidden grimace on his face. I could feel a lot of eyes on us and my cheeks turned bright red as I tried to wipe the mess on the table.

Carter’s hand slipped over mine again and gave me a reassuring squeeze. When I looked up, he was smiling. “Let me do it.” He said and collected the table cloth from my shaking hands.

“That was a disaster.” I muttered under my breath as the waiter left to get a broom.

“It’s not that bad, a disaster would be someone slipping and falli-“

A waiter chose that particular time to walk by and I guess he did not see the dark liquid on the ground with the dim lights because he slipped, hovering in the air for a split second before his body came down, and the lobster dish he held, rained down on him.

“Oh my God!” I gasped and bent down to help, removing the lobster tail that slipped inside his breast pocket as it fell. This was all my fault, I was turning the restaurant to a circus. “Are you okay?” What a stupid question to ask, the man had bisque in his hair, he was far from fine.

While it smelled wonderful, it would be a pain to wash out.

Carter helped him to his feet while I tried to get the mess and glass shards onto the tray. The waiter from earlier returned with the broom, a very tired expression on his face.

“We should leave, before we make anymore messes.” Carter stated as he pulled out his wallet and dropped a large wad of money. The waiters’ mouth rounded into an ‘O’ as they gaped at the money next to our meals. “That’s for our food and for the damages.” He said as he pulled me to my feet. “You both can split the rest as a tip. Come on, Myra.”

“Sorry about the mess, the food was great!” I called out as he tugged me away.

It was only when we got out that I took my first proper breath, my arms prickling in the cold air. Between thinking about canceling this date and Pierce visit I had forgotten about bringing a jacket. Carter still held on to my hand or I would’ve wrapped it around myself.

I bit my lip, remorse on my face. I had ruined our date because I couldn’t keep Pierce out of my head for a couple hours.

I started to apologize again when I heard it. Laughter. It started quietly like he didn’t want me to notice, but one look in my direction and he was full on laughing, his eyes twinkling with tears. He let out a sigh finally and wiped the corner of his eyes.

“I’m sorry, I’ve just never seen something go that wrong in a couple seconds. That’s a gift, goddess.”

He grinned at me, and the situation felt less bleak in my head. If he could laugh that way after dropping cash that could feed me for weeks then maybe it wasn’t so bad. He guided me through the parking lot, a wide grin still on his face.

I let out an awkward laugh. “I’m pretty sure if we didn’t leave the time we did, they would kick us out themselves.”

He chuckled, squeezing my hand. “That’s why we always have a contingency plan.”

“I don’t think I can do another fancy restaurant tonight.” I admitted.

“That’s fine by me. What do you wanna do?”

Go home and make sure my daughter was in the house.

“Order burgers and maybe eat them in your car?” I waited for him to refuse. To tell me I was mental for thinking he would let us eat a ten dollar messy smash burger in a 100k car. Especially after I had just caused that whole accident in the restaurant.

“That sounds like fun. I actually know a good burger place around here.”

“What? you’re not worried I’m gonna mess you car up?”

“If that’s what it takes, goddess. I need to make my sacrifices after all.” He winked at me and opened the door, waiting for me to step in before he went to his own side.

I sucked in air into my lungs and blew out, thinking about Yvette. Pierce was a evil bastard, yes but he wasn’t cruel enough to take her with him right?

He wouldn’t do that to me. So there was no use worrying about it and ruining what was supposed to be a good time.

Even after my pep talk, I spent the rest of the ride to the drive through and to a quiet parking lot staying silent- except when I was asked what I wanted in my burger- wondering who on earth I could call to check on the house. I could not make Hannah drive all the way out there to make sure he was gone, I didn’t know of my neighbors yet, nor did I have any of their numbers. Maybe I could call my landlord? Yeah that made sense.

“I don’t want to call you out or anything, but you’re spacing out again.” Carter said after a while.

I grinned sheepishly biting back the apology at the tip of my tongue. I had said enough ‘sorry’s for one day.

“I don’t mean to, I’m just worried.” I eyed my burger and my lap, wondering how I would manage the feat of not spilling a sauce covered lettuce or pickle from the pile.

“What are you worried about.” He asked, placing his blazer over my lap. “There, get as messy as you want.”

“I can’t-“

“You can and you will. Either that or the car, your choice.” He sucked sauce from his hand and leaned against the door. “This is a good burger by the way.” I sighed and took a small bite, humming in satisfaction as flavors exploded in my mouth. He wasn’t lying about the burger. “So, what are you worrying about?

“Oh god.” “Oh god, oh god, oh god” I whispered in front of the mirror, hyperventilating. My skin was flush as I stared at my dress in the mirror, checking for flaws where there was none. “Oh god.” My hair was piled at the top of my hair in a mess of beautiful curls and pearl beads, it looked like it would fall off my head if I moved too fast but I had counted a lot more than twenty three pins as rhe hairdresser worked. She had also assured me it was secure when I refused to even turn my head, so did hannah, and Lily, and Bianca, but it’s not like the hair was the reason for my nerves. “All done.” Madame Camille said stepping back to admire the work of art that was on my body. She smiled, impressed at her own skills before she double clapped and the doors were open. The three women I had been thinking of earlier including Angie, filed into the room all in deep purple dresses and smaller bouquets in their hands. Heidi was holding a little basket filled with dried daisies “Oh

“Mum! I don’t like this hat,” Heidi tugged on my arm drawing my eyes from the painting I had been admiring. On her head was a muffler beanie hybrid that Angie had made her wear as soon as we entered the art gallery. “can you convince nana to let me take it off. It’s tickling my ears.” I glanced behind, where Angie was squinting at m one of the art pieces, not Pierce’s work though. She hadn’t noticed Heidi slipping away yet, and I knew she would definitely not like Heidi taking it off since the room was very cold. I gave Heidi a sympathetic look. “You know you just recovered from a cold, cut nana some slack she’s trying to keep you safe.” Heidi said something under her breath before she returned to Angie’s side, arms crossed and pouty. And I was certain that pout would stay on till Pierce joined us. I knew he was somewhere in the room talking to Gregory, his artisan friend who owns the studio and convinced him to display his art exclusively at this gallery. My patience was on it

  • He wants her back: The billionaire’s leading lady   Lobotomy

The next several weeks were a whirlwind in our lives. From being hounded by reporters about our relationship, to the near death experience at the halloween party. Not to mention all the personal questions. It seemed being associated with the Blackwoods meant the media felt they deserved all the information about my life. I had almost sucker punched a reporter when she asked if Heidi was a charity case. A few times I would catch Pierce with a regretful look in his eyes when it got too much. But it didn’t stop him from taking me to every party he was invited to, or from holding me, kissing me. The whole incident at the parking lot was still a secret. We figured it would be best to drop the whole bomb after Tami had healed and Heidi’s school was on holidays. That way we could dip for a few days to a private beach house and leave the media to run wild. Which it did. Of course I didn’t find that out till we returned. I then spent three hours binging on story after story and of cours

  • He wants her back: The billionaire’s leading lady   Three bullets

My eyes drew shot and I flinched, waiting for the pain that would come with the bullet. To face death twice in one night. This time I was sure this was it for me. Several seconds past. There was no pain. I peeled my eyes open. Her arm was hanging by her side, a red stain on her shirt that was spreading fast. That wasn’t right. She looked past me, anger and shock on her face. “Leo! You son of a bitch!” She spat, blood spurting out of her lips as she stumbled back. Leo stepped forward, the barrel of his own gun pointed at her. “You’ve done enough harm Ava.” He gritted out. “I’ll kill you!” She yelled one last time, rage on her face and raised the gun again. As she fired again, a large body knocked into her wrestling her to the ground. Pierce! I thought, fear pooling in my body. Sure he was larger than her but there was a gun involved! Another gunshot sounded before Ava went silent. Pierce shot her. I took a step forward, just as he rose to his feet. “Pierce!” I cried in

“Now I want you to really think about every answer you give me. The second it feels like I’m being lied to, I will walk out of this hospital without a backward glance, are we clear?” She nodded again. “I need you to use your words Tami, no matter how much it hurts, even if you feel like dying, don’t worry, I’m here to make sure that doesn’t happen. So… I’ll try to be quick. Uhh…when was the first time you tried to hurt me, like really hurt me?” They was that bob in her throat but she said nothing. I lifted a brow, waiting. When she remained silent I pushed my seat back and rose gingerly. “Wait…please!” She rasped, “I’ll t-alk.” I sat back down. “The first time…it was on set, the…pool.” “What happened at the pool, Tami?” Her eyes darted to me pleading. I gave no sign of sympathy. “the lights went off…I changed the signs in the cave to misdirect you…trapped you… I’m sorry.” “You did that yourself? Or you had help?” “…stunt director… he helped.” I nodded thoughtfully.

  • He wants her back: The billionaire’s leading lady   The confessional

When we reached the private hospital, we were directed straight to where Leo was pacing outside a room I assumed Tami was in. I felt a pang in my chest as I looked at the man who had fathered me. The grim set of his jaws, his shoulders hunched as he circled the hall. He looked like he had aged several years since the Dionet party. Pierce pressed his hand to my back drawing my attention to his face. He was staring at Leo, contempt on his face. Leo’s first words to me after ‘hello, it’s your father.’ Was ‘what is your blood type?’ I could hear his relief through the phone when I said the dreaded AB-. Then he asked that I come to the hospital to help save Tami.Pierce had decided then that he had heard enough. For Leo to call for me to save Tami when only few minutes ago, she had tried to kill me. It seemed even funnier seeing as Pierce had suggested ending her life a seconds before his call came in. When I agreed to come to the hospital, my response seemed to stun not only Pierce.
