“You have no choice but to mate with her. You will not embarrass the family by mating with some healer’s daughter. Over my dead body!”
Those words struck like a million thunderbolts into my fur and skin.
This was it. The end of my childhood dreams of marrying my fated mate,
“But-“
“No buts or ifs, Bladen. The decision is here and your soon to be mate, Luna Viana is already here and she is in the chambers, getting ready for her wedding with you.”
“Wedding? Why do i feel like i have been set up?”
“Set up? No darling, this is just tradition. You know how marriage here in the wolf village, the heir to the blood moon pack must get married to woman from plain moon pack. Your father followed the tradition, his father followed it and crazy of you to think that you can change it.”
“So my future is already a setting stone based on traditions?”
“Yes, Bladen. I would no longer exchange words with you. Your father and his beta would help put you into the suit and scent, this wolf pack party is not just a party for you, it is your marriage day.”
She patted my head and squeezed my cheeks, leaving the room with her ling cheesy laugh that enraged me.
“I cannot belive my pup is getting married today, oh my days! They grow up so fast!”
Her voice faded into the room she entered.
This was a shocker and as much as i did not want to break Mia’s heart, i had to accept the fact that somethings are just not meant to be.
I dashed into my father’s chambers, stumbling against the obstacles in the room. They were boxes that littered the floor, boxes with with different male outfits all over the place.
“Welcome our newest groom.”
My father smiled at em, moving closer to embrace me and getting the attention of his Beta who was staring at himself in the long mirror that stood by the side of the room.
“You and mother set me up. I am very angry and filled with so mush resentment. How did you both think you can dictate my life for me?”
“Oh, poor son! Hold your horses, your parents know what is best for you. We did this for your own good, Bladen. Soon , you will understand. Whatever you do, always make sure that you remember that the family’s reputation comes first.”
“I have heard that sentence almost everyday of my life, i just felt like my time would be different. I am in love with Mia Heather not Viana.”
“Well, you are going to get married to Viana so start transferring the feelings to Viana. My Beta and I would help prepare you for the party today where your wedding would be announced.”
I gulped hard, yhis was a nightmare. I just pray that Mia was not attending the party. I cannot bear to stand her facial expression when she finds out that everything i told her since we were fifteen.
“Who is attending this party?”
I finally broke the silence within when my father adjusted my green bow tie, that complimented the white shirt that was properly tucked into my trousers.
My hair was laid down in curls, matvhing with my curly mustache.
“Everybody who is part of the Blood Moon Pack and the Moon Bound Pack. This is the party of the century.”
“Your father is right, i have other Betas coming from other Packs who insisted we prepare hotels for them to spend the night, and just incase they find a mate…after all it is mating season.”
My father’s Beta concurred with my father and my geart skipped more beats.
“That is true, i almost forgit this was mating season. Bladen once you get married to Viana, you are going to mate with her in your bedroom, fulfilling marriage rites.”
“What?”
My eyes dimmed, the green amber colour hid and my lens overpowered.
“The guests are here.”
My mom said loudly from the opened door.
The room was filled to thr brim, the party continued in the other room. Different wolves were all over the place, either eating, wining, talking, dancing or just singing along to the song playing.
Maybe there was a possibility that I won’t see Mia, was all that was in my head when Viana came close to me and grabbed my hand, her long flowing gown making heads turn and her gloved hands pinching my fur.
“Bladen? Trust you are doing good? I am going to be your new Luna. I am not as excited about it as you think. I never intended getting married to you too, but our family has traditions and we have to followed them.”
“I do not want to get married to you either, my heart belongs to someone else but we have to make this work.”
“Hey everyone!”
There was a loud strike of glass that spiked the sense of hearing of every wolf in the room.
“Welcome to the party of the century, welcome everyone to the Blood Moon Pack Territory. Today is not just for bringing wolves together but also to bring the heir and heiress of the Blood Moon Pack together, Alpha Bladen and Luna Viana.”
My hands went cold and as we stepped up the podium hand in hand, i mentally searched for Mia in the crowd.
“Is that the girl of your dreams? She is the only one crying in the crowd.”
Viana said to me and i turned my head to the beautiful girl beside the podium, her eyes were filled with tears and her lips were inside her teeth.
I gave up on the love i have for her.
I ran down from the podium to where she stood but she ran out, and i chased after her.
“Mia-please wait! I can explain.”
She stopped running and turned back, her face swollen and her eyses lookimg drained from pouring out a lot of tears.
“Explain? You promised me three years ago that we would get married. We made an oath under the full moon.”
“This is not my-“
She did not wait for me to finish talking before storming into the woods, her scent disappearing because she was no longer here.
She gave up on the love she had for me.
Mia’s POVThe sky had eyes. That was the only way I could describe it.Two enormous silver eyes stared down through the cracks in the First World. They weren’t attached to a face. There was nothing behind them.Only darkness.Yet somehow—they were looking directly at me.My body went cold.Kael stepped in front of me.“Mia, stay behind me.”I grabbed his arm.“That’s not going to help.”“I know.”He tightened his grip on his sword.“But I’m still doing it.”The woman stared upward. For the first time since she appeared—she looked afraid.“That’s impossible.”The stranger looked at her.“You said the First Light was the source.”“It was.”“Then what is that?”She shook her head.“I don’t know.”The older Mia whispered,“I do.”We all turned toward her.She was staring at the sky.“It isn’t the First Light.”I swallowed.“Then what is it?”She looked at me.“The First Shadow.”The Hollow’s words suddenly echoed in my memory.Light couldn’t exist without balance.Neither could shadow.
Mia’s POVThe woman stood behind the stranger. She had my face.My eyes.My hair.Even the small scar near my eyebrow. But she wasn’t me.I knew that immediately.Because when I looked into her eyes—I felt nothing. No recognition. No warmth. No connection.Only something ancient.Something that made every instinct inside me scream to run.The stranger stepped aside.“Meet the original.”My mouth went dry.The woman smiled.“Hello, Mia.”I tightened my grip around Kael’s hand.“Who are you?”She tilted her head.“You already know.”“No.”“You’ve been carrying my memories your entire life.”My heart pounded.“What memories?”She took one step forward. The Makers immediately lowered their heads. The older Mia moved backward.Even Kael looked unsettled. The woman noticed.“You’re afraid of me.”Kael’s voice was cold.“I don’t trust you.”She smiled.“You shouldn’t.”The stranger looked at her.“You said you’d wait.”“I did.”“Then why reveal yourself now?”Her eyes moved toward me.“Beca
Mia’s POVI couldn’t breathe. The Makers were still kneeling.Every single one of them.Their silver masks reflected the light pouring from the Crown inside my chest.I stared at them. Then at Kael. Then at the older version of myself.“The Maker…”My voice barely came out.“That’s me?”The older Mia didn’t answer.I stepped toward her.“Tell me the truth.”She looked at me with tears in her eyes.“I don’t know all of it.”“Then tell me what you do know.”She hesitated.“You were the first.”My stomach tightened.“The first what?”“The first consciousness created from the First Light.”I shook my head.“No.”“You existed before the First World.”“That’s impossible.”“You existed before the First King.”I looked toward Kael.He didn’t deny it.Instead, he looked down.I turned back to her.“Then why don’t I remember?”“Because they erased it.”“Who?”“The Makers.”I looked at the kneeling figures.“They erased my memories?”“They were afraid of what you’d become.”A cold silence settle
Mia’s POVDarkness swallowed me.There was no ground beneath my feet.No sky.No sound.Only darkness.I reached for Kael.My fingers closed around his hand.“I’ve got you.”His grip tightened around mine.“Mia…”His voice sounded distant.Too distant.I pulled him toward me.“Don’t let go.”“I’m trying.”Something pulled at him again.A force I couldn’t see dragged him deeper into the darkness.I held on tighter. Then—light exploded around us.I screamed.Kael disappeared.“Kael!”I reached for him.Nothing.I spun around. There was no door.No chamber. No Liora. No Hollow. No First Flame.Only an endless white space. My breathing became uneven.“Kael?”No answer.I turned again.“Kael!”A voice whispered behind me.“You shouldn’t have followed him.”I froze.I knew that voice.I turned slowly. The older version of me stood several feet away. Her clothes were torn. Her face was pale. And there was blood on her hands.I stared at her.“You said I wouldn’t come back.”She nodded.“You
Mia’s POV Morning came too quickly.I barely slept.Everytime I closed my eyes, I was back at the overlook, standing beside Loren with the city lights below us and his voice is too steady, too honest, saying things I had been trying hard not to think about. When something happens, you are the firs
Alpha Bladen POV I wake up already knowing something is wrong. It isn’t the pain. The pai. Has always been there—constant, dull, buried beneath everything else like something waiting its turn. I’ve learned to exist around it. To ignore it when I need to.This is different. This feels like…. absenc
Loren POV“It was you,” he whispered again. The words did not sound loud, but they seemed to travel further than they should have, settling heavily in the air and in the cell.No one moved at that moment.Mia stood beside me,her posture straight but tense, as though something inside her had locked i
Mia Heather POVThe moment the door clicked shut behind the last student, Liora stepped closer, eyes filled with concern. Brin hovered beside her, fingers nervously twisting the hem of her uniform."Are you– Are you really okay?" Liora asked, voice low, almost a whisper, as if speaking louder might
