“You have no choice but to mate with her. You will not embarrass the family by mating with some healer’s daughter. Over my dead body!”
Those words struck like a million thunderbolts into my fur and skin.
This was it. The end of my childhood dreams of marrying my fated mate,
“But-“
“No buts or ifs, Bladen. The decision is here and your soon to be mate, Luna Viana is already here and she is in the chambers, getting ready for her wedding with you.”
“Wedding? Why do i feel like i have been set up?”
“Set up? No darling, this is just tradition. You know how marriage here in the wolf village, the heir to the blood moon pack must get married to woman from plain moon pack. Your father followed the tradition, his father followed it and crazy of you to think that you can change it.”
“So my future is already a setting stone based on traditions?”
“Yes, Bladen. I would no longer exchange words with you. Your father and his beta would help put you into the suit and scent, this wolf pack party is not just a party for you, it is your marriage day.”
She patted my head and squeezed my cheeks, leaving the room with her ling cheesy laugh that enraged me.
“I cannot belive my pup is getting married today, oh my days! They grow up so fast!”
Her voice faded into the room she entered.
This was a shocker and as much as i did not want to break Mia’s heart, i had to accept the fact that somethings are just not meant to be.
I dashed into my father’s chambers, stumbling against the obstacles in the room. They were boxes that littered the floor, boxes with with different male outfits all over the place.
“Welcome our newest groom.”
My father smiled at em, moving closer to embrace me and getting the attention of his Beta who was staring at himself in the long mirror that stood by the side of the room.
“You and mother set me up. I am very angry and filled with so mush resentment. How did you both think you can dictate my life for me?”
“Oh, poor son! Hold your horses, your parents know what is best for you. We did this for your own good, Bladen. Soon , you will understand. Whatever you do, always make sure that you remember that the family’s reputation comes first.”
“I have heard that sentence almost everyday of my life, i just felt like my time would be different. I am in love with Mia Heather not Viana.”
“Well, you are going to get married to Viana so start transferring the feelings to Viana. My Beta and I would help prepare you for the party today where your wedding would be announced.”
I gulped hard, yhis was a nightmare. I just pray that Mia was not attending the party. I cannot bear to stand her facial expression when she finds out that everything i told her since we were fifteen.
“Who is attending this party?”
I finally broke the silence within when my father adjusted my green bow tie, that complimented the white shirt that was properly tucked into my trousers.
My hair was laid down in curls, matvhing with my curly mustache.
“Everybody who is part of the Blood Moon Pack and the Moon Bound Pack. This is the party of the century.”
“Your father is right, i have other Betas coming from other Packs who insisted we prepare hotels for them to spend the night, and just incase they find a mate…after all it is mating season.”
My father’s Beta concurred with my father and my geart skipped more beats.
“That is true, i almost forgit this was mating season. Bladen once you get married to Viana, you are going to mate with her in your bedroom, fulfilling marriage rites.”
“What?”
My eyes dimmed, the green amber colour hid and my lens overpowered.
“The guests are here.”
My mom said loudly from the opened door.
The room was filled to thr brim, the party continued in the other room. Different wolves were all over the place, either eating, wining, talking, dancing or just singing along to the song playing.
Maybe there was a possibility that I won’t see Mia, was all that was in my head when Viana came close to me and grabbed my hand, her long flowing gown making heads turn and her gloved hands pinching my fur.
“Bladen? Trust you are doing good? I am going to be your new Luna. I am not as excited about it as you think. I never intended getting married to you too, but our family has traditions and we have to followed them.”
“I do not want to get married to you either, my heart belongs to someone else but we have to make this work.”
“Hey everyone!”
There was a loud strike of glass that spiked the sense of hearing of every wolf in the room.
“Welcome to the party of the century, welcome everyone to the Blood Moon Pack Territory. Today is not just for bringing wolves together but also to bring the heir and heiress of the Blood Moon Pack together, Alpha Bladen and Luna Viana.”
My hands went cold and as we stepped up the podium hand in hand, i mentally searched for Mia in the crowd.
“Is that the girl of your dreams? She is the only one crying in the crowd.”
Viana said to me and i turned my head to the beautiful girl beside the podium, her eyes were filled with tears and her lips were inside her teeth.
I gave up on the love i have for her.
I ran down from the podium to where she stood but she ran out, and i chased after her.
“Mia-please wait! I can explain.”
She stopped running and turned back, her face swollen and her eyses lookimg drained from pouring out a lot of tears.
“Explain? You promised me three years ago that we would get married. We made an oath under the full moon.”
“This is not my-“
She did not wait for me to finish talking before storming into the woods, her scent disappearing because she was no longer here.
She gave up on the love she had for me.
Mia’s POV Room 14.Me.Brin.Liora.For a second, I just stared at it, making sure I wasn’t reading it wrong. Around me, students kept crowding forward, voices overlapping, people calling names, laughing, complaining, dragging bags across the polished floor. But for that moment, all I could see was that one line.Room 14.“We are together,” I said, looking up at them.Brin let out a dramatic gasp so loud that two people beside us turned to stare.“This,” she said solemnly, “is fate.”Liora leaned closer to check the list herself and smiled softly. The pathway buzzed with restless excitement around us. Some students were celebrating because they got their friends. Others were already trying to negotiate switches. Few looked like they regretted coming at all. There was something strangely comforting about it.“Come on,” Brin said, grabbing her bag. “Before someone steals my future bed.”“You think people are waiting to fight you for a bunk bed?” I asked.“Yes.” She said.“She might be
Mia’s POV This morning felt different. My exams were over and it was time for the tournament.I stood in front of my mirror, staring at my reflection while my fingers hovered over my packed bag. Everything inside felt unfamiliar in a good way—folded clothes, a few books, small things that I forgot that I owned. We were leaving the academy environment and going into the heart of Sablethorn.I tightened the strap of my bag and let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.I was a little bit excited. Not because of the tournament. But because it meant movement.I was going to change my environment and the endless cycle of classes, pressure and silence.I left my room and made my way to school. The corridors already felt alive in a different way. Students moved faster than usual, voices louder, laughter spilling into spaces that were usually quiet. Bags were swung over shoulders. We were not wearing our uniforms today. Just normal clothes.Large school buses were in the compound waiti
Alpha Bladen's POVI woke to silence. Not the peaceful kind. The heavy kind—the kid that sits on your chest before you even open your eyes, as if your body already knows something your mind hasn’t caught up to yet.For a long moment, I stayed still.Breathing.Listening.My body felt wrong.Heavy. Weak. Like every bone had been taken apart and put back in the wrong places. Even lifting my hand felt like a decision I had to think about first.I frowned and forced my eyes opened. The ceiling above me looked familiar.Mine.But something about the room felt strange.I stared for a second longer, trying to make sense of it through the fog in my head. Then I realized. The room was upside down.Well—not literally. But close enough. The chair near the table had been knocked over and pushed back into place carelessly. The curtains hung unevenly. One side half torn from where someone must have grabbed it too hard. Glass still glittered faintly near the window despite someone’s attempt to clean
Viana's POVI turned slowly, my breath caught somewhere between my chest and my throatAnd there he was.Bladen.For one lone second, I couldn’t move.He stood in front of me in his wolf form, half shadowed by the moonlight spilling through the broken window. His dark fur looked rough, uneven in places, streaked with dirt and blood. He looked bigger now and yet smaller than I had ever seen him—like strength trying desperately not to collapse. He looked weak. Not the kind of weakness that came from exhaustion alone. This was something deeper. Something that looked like pain forced into silence. His chest rose slowly, each breath heavy, uneven, like breathing itself had become work. His body trembled faintly beneath the effort of standing, and for the first time since I had known him, he did not look like someone impossible to break. But it was his eyes that held me still.Golden.Bright even in the dark.Locked on mine. There was no rage there, just exhaustion and something that looked
Alpha Bladen POV We began slow preparations for the invasion that morning, while servants and staff arranged for a wedding, soldiers prepped for a day that would either make or break Bloodmoon.By evening, I could already feel the weight of the decision pressing down on me. A loss was not somethin
Alpha Bladen POVA sharp sting rang across my head, forcing me awake.I groaned softly, pressing my palm against my temple as the ache pulsed like a war drum inside my skull. It wasn’t new, it never was, nights had become battles of their own, ones I never seemed to win. I stared up at the ceiling
Loren’s POVI stood in the doorway longer than I should have, watching Mia curled beneath the blankets, her breathing slow and even.I was sure she'd have a long first day and a part of me wanted to stay and guide her through, protect her from the ravaging wolves in Aetherion but I thought against
Mia Heather’s POVClasses ended early that day. It wasn’t announced with ceremony or relief, just a quiet dismissal from Master Eryn after a long lecture on preservation techniques."That’s enough for today. Leave," was all he said in a tone that itched colder than the frostbite I had that morning.
