After school was over.
"I don't understand why you're waiting for him," Mia said while leaning against the wall with Leah who was waiting for Igneel to come out of the class. "Because he is my friend now," Leah said with a shrug.
"You cannot make anyone your friend," Mia said, making Leah sigh. "Do you remember how we first met, Mia? You were just like him...well not scared but lonely." Leah said and Mia smiled.
"That's right. If it wasn't for you. I would still be lonely. You kept running behind me...kept meddling in my business. Never left my side no matter what others said." Mia said. Her eyes sparkled as she remembered the old days.
"Yes...he is worse than you...I do sympathize with him but he is alluring." Leah said while looking at Mia. "Well...I have to go to my aunt's house. I have to babysit my cousins today. I will get late if I keep waiting for him. I'll leave first." Mia said and Leah nodded. "See you tomorrow," Leah said while waving at Mia.
She looked back at the door and kept waiting for him until he finally walked out of the classroom. He paused upon seeing Leah. Her gaze was fixated on the floor and she wasn't aware that he walked out of the classroom. He decided to walk past her but she grabbed his arm before he could step any further from her.
"You done?" She asked him and he nodded while looking down. She let go of his wrist and stood beside him. "Let's go...what are you waiting for?" She asked and he slightly turned towards her.
"You don't have to do this....this for me." He said in a low voice. She heard half of it but understood what he was saying. She raised her brows at him while shaking her right hand in denial. "I'm your friend and friends wait for each other." She said with a smile.
"I never agreed to be your friend." He said. This time slightly louder. Her smile dropped as soon as she heard his voice. "Your voice....its...well uhh." She paused. He will surely give her a hard time but she ain't giving up.
He started to walk, leaving her behind. She kept staring at his back and decided to follow him closely behind. She started to walk behind him but a little far. He was making her act like a pushover. She surely has done this for Mia but other than her she never had a hard time making friends with anyone.
Her eyes sharpened once she saw fatty and his gang making their way toward Igneel. Without thinking twice she ran up to Igneel and threw her arm around his shoulder. He paused on his steps but she slightly pushed him forward, telling him to keep walking.
"You seriously don't have to do this." He said and she shook her head. "Friends protect each other." She said with a smile on her face. He kept staring down at her smiling face.
The fatty changed his path once they saw Leah with Igneel.
Those cowards only bully people like Igneel. People who cannot stand for themselves.
"Do you....pity me too?" He asked in a low voice as they walked out of the school. She pursed her lips in a thin line. She does pity him but that isn't it. "Well...I don't pity you." She said and all of a sudden he moved away from her. "Then...is it because I'm rich?" He asked. His voice is low as always.
She quickly shook her head.
"Then what?" He asked and she kept staring up at his face which she could barely see. He always hangs his head low. He thinks she either pities him or wants his money. Seriously, this sounds very bad. Does this boy don't know what affection means? What does friendship mean?
"I just want to be friends with you. Does there have to be a purpose?" She asked and to her surprise, he nodded. He is truly messed up. "Well...I..." She paused. Not knowing what to say. "Then...I'll leave." He said and turned his back towards her as he slowly walked down the crowded street, leaving her behind all perplexed.
"Ha...he will give me a hard time...but I won't give up." She said as she made her hand into a tight fist. He seems challenging and she will gladly accept it.
*********
"He rejected your friendship proposal," Mia said while chewing on her sandwich as both of them walked to school. "Well...doesn't matter," Leah said while taking a bite of her sandwich.
"Umm...I thought about it before but he is different." Leah said while chewing on her sandwich. "You mean weird," Mia said and Leah passed her a fake glare. "Not a word against him," Leah said and Mia shook her head in disbelief. "Already defending him. Oh, Leah...I hope you don't get yourself stuck in some bullshit." Mia said and Leah chuckled.
"This is real life, Mia," Leah said and Mia nodded. "That's why it's more dangerous," Mia said in a serious tone. Leah looked at Mia while taking a bite of her sandwich. I smile making its way to her lips. She changed Mia...she wants to change him too. She wants him to truly understand his value otherwise with this behavior and personality he will not survive long in this harsh world.
"I heard Tobias made a new girlfriend," Mia said and Leah rolled her eyes. "It's his everyday routine. He does this to get attention. Seriously...one rich brat craves attention and the other rich one runs away from it." Leah said while throwing the wrapper of her sandwich in the trash container they were passing by.
"You mean Igneel," Mia said and Leah nodded.
"Well...he sure is a mystery one," Mia said and soon they entered the school only to come face to face with a huge crowd. "A fight?" Leah said and before she could walk into the fight and have her tea, Mia grabbed her bag from behind and decided to drag her away.
"None of our business," Mia said and Leah chuckled. Her chuckle died midway when she saw fatty in between the crowd. Her eyes widened and she let go of her bag. Mia turned around and looked down at Leah's bag in her hand before looking up at Leah who was rushing in the crowd.
Mia's eyes widened once she saw fatty in the crowd. She immediately understood why Leah rushed in so she ran behind Leah, yelling for her to come back.
Leah didn't listen to Mia and rushed into the crowd. Pushing everyone behind she finally reached the spot where the fighting was taking place. Her eyes widened when she saw Igneel wrapped up in a ball. His arms on his head as he tried to protect himself from all the kicks fatty and his friends were giving him.
"You...bastard." Leah's jaw clenched in anger and she rushed up to them. She grabbed the fatty's collar from behind and yanked him back. Mia came rushing behind her and pushed all the boys away from Igneel with Leah.
Leah glared at the fatty.
"You fatso. How dare you hit him?" She asked him face to face. She was so angry. Hitting someone weak was totally wrong. Leah was furious. The urge to punch him in the face was too much. The fatty being an asshole raised his hand to hit Leah too but before he could Gordon rushed in and immediately saved his friends. Being the senior class president...he was slightly feared by students like fatty because the teacher listened to Gordon.
"You dare raise your hand against a girl," Gordon said.
It was one of the worst days in Leah's life until now.Gordon and Mia decided to handle the situation with fatso while on the other hand, Leah helped Igneel to reach the infirmary room. She felt extremely bad for Igneel as he limped beside her. Leah had his arm around her shoulder to support him. Only if she reached a little earlier he wouldn't be this beat up."I tried to fight back." He said in a low voice. Her eyes slightly widened before turning into sad ones in no second. He tried to fight back...just because she told him to stand up for himself. "I'm a" Before he could speak any further she poked in"You did great. You fought back against so many. It takes great courage to even talk against so many...who have no intention but just to hurt you." She said, Her voice was gentle as ever and so were her expressions. "You did too." He said and she paused. "What?" She asked while slightly raising her head to look at him. "You defended me too...yesterday." He said and her smile widene
Starting from that day...Leah did her best to make Igneel open up with her but he kept pushing her away. She felt like he wanted to be friends with her but he was hesitant. Probably trust issues? But she didn't give up. It became her habit to roam around him and Mia always was dragged along with her."God...what does he think he is? What's with this 'hard to get ' type of attitude?" Mia asked while rolling her eyes. "It's not hard to get. He is just hesitant." Leah said as both of them entered their classroom. "I'm telling you...stop wasting your time. If you put this much focus on your math exam...you will top the school." Mia said and Leah chuckled as both of them settled down on their respective chairs. "Oh, stop exaggerating," Leah said and looked behind at the empty desk. He was late today...so unlikely of him."Mia..." Leah called Mia as she put her head on the desk. "Hmm." Mia turned toward her once she heard Leah calling her. "What could be the reason for this attitude of his
"Igneel...do I look like a pushover to you?" She asked while taking a bite of her chicken sandwich. He slowly turned his head to his left side to look at Leah who just ate her sandwich, waiting for his reply. "No." He said. His voice wasn't low. She swore it was the second time today...she felt shivers running down her spine once she heard his voice again. She never knew a teenager could have such a deep voice. The girls here will fall for his voice. Is that the reason he doesn't speak? "You're not a pushover." He said and she smiled. "I'm glad to know that." She said and turned to look at him. Her eyes widened once she realized he was too close...in fact, she was sitting too close to him. She slowly moved away and took out the medicine from her pocket once she realized that he finished his sandwich."Here, have this medicine." She handed him the medicine and he quietly took it. "Thank you." He whispered under his breath and she nodded. Both of them flinched once they heard rustling
That day... was the beginning of their friendship. All three of them went to Mia's house. Her parents were at work and they probably came late. They plopped down in her living room and started to study as planned. It was the very first time Leah saw Igneel speaking more than a line. Because he was teaching her math. She was surprised at how good he was in math and she clearly understood him. "Ahh...I'm tired and hungry. Why don't we guys wrap up for today and cook something for ourselves?" Leah asked while packing her stuff. Mia on the other hand nodded in agreement. "Let's cook," Mia said and stood up. They both looked at Igneel. "What would you like to eat, Igneel?" Leah asked Igneel who was quietly sitting beside her. "Anything," Igneel said while looking up at Mia. Leah smiled and stood up too. "I knew, you weren't picky. Let's make sandwiches." Leah said while clapping her hands together."Do...you like sandwiches?" Igneel asked while looking up at Leah. His voice wasn't low an
It was another day but with each other...it didn't feel like torture anymore. They should have met a lot earlier. "Say...have you guys started preparing for the college entrance exam?" Leah asked while sucking on her popsicle as she walked between Igneel and Mia as usual. They were making their way out of the school. "Um...I told you before...I will be taking over my grandpa's cafe once I graduate." Mia said and Leah nodded. Both of them turned their heads to look at Igneel. "I'm...gonna take a year break," Igneel said in his usual low voice. Leah pouted and took a big bite of her popsicle. "I want a break too...my parents are so pushy." She said while shaking her head. "What major will you take?" Igneel asked and Leah rubbed her chin. "Probably psychology...I love psychology. Thank God my parents aren't against it." Leah said and Mia nodded. All of a sudden Igneel fell to the ground while grabbing his hand from behind. A basketball rolled down beside him indicating that he was hit
Today, the first period was PT.Everyone was changing into their PT outfit. "I'm waiting for you outside," Leah told Mia as she walked out of the changing room after changing into her PT outfit. She put her elbows on the railing and looked toward the basketball ground. She narrowed her eyes once she saw Tobias practicing among them."Loser." She whispered under her breath while eyeing him. She lashed her gaze away from him. Her expression lightened once she saw Igneel making his way toward the building. She was about to tell his name as she raised her arm to wave at him but she paused midway when she saw something in his hands. She lowered her arm and keenly looked at the bouquet-like stuff in his hand. Her eyes widened and her heartbeat fastened once she saw a bouquet of white Camellia in his hands.A BOUQUET OF CAMELLIA. He brought it for her.She couldn't believe what she was seeing. She put her hand on her chest to calm her heartbeat. Why was her heart beating so fast? He rememb
"I promise."He said and she smiled. He kept caressing her right cheek...his touch was so gentle and tender...she was at the peak of closing her eyes and leaning into his touch. "Are you confessing?" She snickered while joking and looked up at him. She paused once her hazel orbs met his gray ones. The look he had in his eyes forced her to gulp. She can feel her heartbeat getting faster. She lashed her gaze away once she realized they were staring into each other's eyes for quite a while now. "So...uh...we need to do something about that fatty. I've told Mia to take Gordon and go to the principal office. We need to complain about that fatso." As soon as Leah said that, Igneel grabbed her shoulders tightly. She frowned and looked up at him. He had a huge frown on his face. It was the first time she saw him frowning like this. Did she do something wrong?"You shouldn't have." He said and her eyes narrowed. "Why? So they can continue to bully you? It's enough." She asked and he shook his
Did she do something wrong? She kept standing there in the middle of the corridor, scratching her cheek with her finger trying to remember her fault. Was he still angry because of the principal scene? But the fatty, unfortunately, died. She shook her head and made her way toward the classroom. Upon entering the classroom she looked at her desk to catch Igneel but instead of Igneel, she saw Jack. She frowned and looked at the desk where Igneel used to sit before and to her surprise he was sitting on his old seat. She lashed her gaze away from Igneel once she heard Mia calling her name. She silently made her way toward her desk and settled down. "Did...did something happen? Why is he sitting there?" Mia asked Leah as soon as she sat down. Leah shrugged and shook her head. "I don't know...he just ignored me in the corridor and now he is not sitting behind me anymore. I'm sure nothing happened between us for him to act like this." Leah said with a gloomy expression on her face. Mia l
