Chapter 3

When the maid had moved away from me, I sighed in relief. I could not wait any longer. I threw myself on top of the bed. I took a nap for at least 5 minutes before someone knocked on my door. I was irritated as hell.

"Oh its you." I said.

Miguel smiled.

"I just disturbed you, didn't I?"

"Kind of."

"What can I do to make it up to you?"

"Let's see. I don't have any ideas for now."

"I have an idea."

Miguel walked toward me. My heart pounded fast as he ran his fingers through my hair.

"Your hair needs more conditioner." He said.

I chuckled.

He then stood there with his eyes fixed on me.

"Thorne will take you to a beauty parlour tomorrow morning."

"Oh. Okay."

"If you are feeling hungry, you know who to dial. I will be in my office, working on some paperwork. I'll check on you again later."

I nodded.

Miguel leaned closer then sniffed me on the neck.

"Pink Rose. Is that your favourite odor?" He asked.

I blinked twice.

"Yes it is."

"Do you want to use it forever or would you ever change it?"

"I love anything that smells rosy."

Miguel chuckled.

"Well bye." He said. Then walked away quickly.

I felt slightly confused. Did he want to kiss me? I wondered.

I began to undress. Then took a bath before finally sleeping on my new bed.

The following day early in the morning. I heard a knock at the door. It was the housemaid.

"Oh Cecilia."

"Morning Mam. Would you like me to prepare breakfast for you?"

"Not really but you can bring the food I was supposed to eat last night."

The maid had a disappointed face.

"I am so sorry mam. But leftover food is usually taken to the furnace room where it will be burned to ashes."

"When did you burn it?"

"I burn every leftover from 10pm."

"Why when you could eat it or give it to the homeless?"

"The staff is not allowed to eat any leftover's nor give it to anyone outside the residence."

"Oh."

"If you need any breakfast well please dial the number and it shall be done."

"I will do that. Thank you."

The house maid walked away.

I changed into my regular clothes then later went with Thorns to the beauty parlour.

When my hair had been finished, Thorns kept me company while I tried to eat brunch in the garden.

"Tell me. How long have you been working for Miguel?" I asked.

"Honestly, it has been quite for some time "

"How long?"

"I've been working for Miguel for 15 years now."

"What has his attitude been, I mean does he treat you well?"

The Porter chuckled.

"He is strict, but good." He said.

"Oh.."

"He's also loyal. You never have to doubt him. He knows how to commit himself to a woman."

"I think you really care about Miguel. I do admire your loyalty towards your superior."

"I wouldn't lie for him even if he paid me. I only told you the truth because I think you deserve it."

I smiled.

"Which pack do you belong to?" I asked.

"Definitely not the same one as that of Miguel. I come from the Hoziah pack."

"The peaceful wolves."

Thorne chuckled.

"Who said so?"

"No one. I sort of guessed it, seeing how kind you have been towards me."

"Well the Hazier are far from being kind, just as Miguel they are vicious and enjoy killing. That is not however the reason why i was recruited for this job."

"How did Miguel find you?"

"He saw me multiple times in the company that I was working at before and recruited me as I was part of the Hoziah pack.”

“So do you ever get dirty as in help him kill sometimes?”

“He kills and I help with the cleaning up. We don’t ever leave any mess behind.”

“Who does he kill mostly?”

“I don’t ask many questions about his killings, I only do as I am told.”

I sensed fear from the Porter’s words. He knew more than what he was admitting. But why was he protecting Miguel, I wondered.

“You must be wondering where I even met Miguel.”

“Not really no. My job is not to ask many questions. What or who my superior meets is absolutely none of my concern.”

“Has he met with many women?”

Thorne eyed me for a few seconds.

“As I said before, who Miguel sees is not any of my concern. Should I interfere in his private affairs, he will not hesitate to kill me and my family.”

Even the most dangerous feared Miguel. I began to regret my decision of leaving home in the first place. Perhaps it was time that I left.

“You say you have family. Does this include children?” I asked, trying to be polite. Perhaps speaking about the now trembling man about his loved ones would ease down his fear. I thought.

“I have three daughters and a wife back at home.”

“Not even one boy, my sister needs a man.”

Thorne chuckled.

“I love my children as for your sisters I think she will have to be careful around men. Its almost too hard to find the right match. Fortunately my daughters are still very young to be matched.”

“You can say that again. If only one could stay young forever. Growing up is hard work.”

“Yes it is.”

“So how did you and your wife meet?” I asked.

“Our parents were close friends, they arranged for our matching.”

I was startled.

“Your parent’s must have loved you.”

“Well that kind of arrangement is not for all of us. Especially if you have always been more independent and willing to step out of your family pack.”

“Why would anyone want to leave their pack?”

“To start their own. Some of the bravest wolves I once knew did that for themselves.”

“Why didn’t you do it?”

“Because I love family and I think if I am still part of my old pack, it will be easier to gain full respect from other tribes.”

I felt pity for Thorne.

Suddenly, a call came through on the Porter’s phone.

“Can you please tell Zelda to come meet me in the garden.”Said the voice on the phone.

“Of course sir.”

“Its him isnt it?” I asked.

Thorne nodded.

“He is in the garden and requests your presence.”

“Thanks for the company. I hope we do this again sometime.”

“Of course.”

I waved the Porter goodbye and went straight to where I was called to come.
