Episode 6

Episode 6: Dinner with the In-Laws.

I woke up the following morning and Christopher had already left; he didn't even tell me; maybe he didn't want to make me, and honestly, my time at the office has been hectic and somewhat stressful.

"Good morning, mom and dad."

I greeted my parents after getting dressed to leave for the office. Christopher was at the table across, and he grinned, unsure of my outfit.

"Nina, are you ready to go to the office?". Mom came; she held me from taking another step away and made me turn over to Dad.

"Is everything okay? What is the matter?". I glanced at dad's face as I directed the question to both of them.

Dad looked at mom and gave her the go-ahead to speak. I didn't know what my parents were about to say; however, deep down, I felt it had to do with my engagement with Drake.

"Nina, it's about your wedding.".

I said, Mom, as she slowly got a hold of my shivering hands.

"What about the wedding?". I asked her calmly; I didn't want to be too hasty, and in the process, I got into a tight spot.

"Baby, it's in a month," she tells me.

My heart suddenly stopped working for a second. How can I be getting married in a month?

Christopher oversaw everything, and instead of coming over to speak to his parents, he grabbed his cell phone and left me behind.

My entire day was ruined because of that announcement. I couldn't do anything at the offices, and even when I returned, I just went straight to my bedroom and went to bed.

The next day, I heard a knock on my bed. It was six in the morning; no one gets to wake up so early.

Just then, I heard from outside.

"Nina, please open the door.".

Mom voiced out.

Immediately, I came down from the comfort of my bed and went ahead and opened the door.

She breezed in, and she had some clothes in her hands.

"What is happening?" I couldn't help myself but to question her; she can't just barge into my bedroom with some expensive clothes without any reason.

"Nina! Today, we are having an important family dinner with Drake's parents.". .

She pulled me over to the huge mirror and passed me one of the gowns; it was blue, and it had a huge opening in the back.

Mom got me to fit into all the dresses she brought to my bedroom; she said she wanted me to dress elegantly for my new in-laws. As much as I'd want to send Drake and his parents straight to hell, I had no choice but to rethink my decision.

So, after I finally got something to wear, I took myself into the bathroom; thereafter, I went straight to my parents bedroom.

Today, being the weekend, I have to head to the office. We have an important guest coming, and our boss wants everyone to be available.

Mom didn't want to allow me to go, but thanks to Dad, she was compelled to, but I had to come back before the family dinner commences.

"Nina, thanks for coming; we have an emergency.".

Talia dragged me to the dressing room of the guests we were supposed to be having today.

I scanned the entire room, and I could not find the reason why I had been dragged here.

"What is the emergency?". I asked and turned my head to her.

"Seriously? " She went to the wardrobe, took out a very beautiful gown, and showed me the broken zip.

"Oops,". I exclaimed..

"Yeah! I accidentally broke the zip; help me, Nina." She brought the clothes and left them in my arms.

What was I meant to do with a dress that had a broken zip? It was almost time for the show to commence, and soon enough, the guests would be approaching.

There was no way I would go back home and come back to the office on time, and then suddenly I was compelled to call Christopher and ask him for assistance.

I called him the first time, but he did not pick up; however, when I attempted to call him the second time, he picked up, and his voice was dark and prickly.

Aside from noticing that, I had to beg him to take a few of the clothes Mom had given me. Christopher accepted to bring in the clothes for me, and afterwards the phone call was disconnected.

Christopher brought the dress with him to my office; he wore his usual sweatshirt and shorts. Regardless, the enter girls at the company could not stop staring at him, my boyfriend, which of course they didn't know.

"Thanks for this."

I rushed over with the dress to the dressing room, where Taila must be pacing back and forth.

"I got the dress," I said to her after getting into the room. She turned around and rushed over the moment she found me holding a replica of the same dress she had worn.

"Oh Nina! Thank you so much; I owe you," she expressed joyfully, and then took the dress away. She exchanged the one in that wardrobe and gave the one she had broken to Mr.

The price of the dress is almost a thousand dollars; mom doesn't care to even glance at the price tag. She is eager to pay it off, but despite the company not doing well, how can she still spend so lavishly?

Taila sent me to pick up the guests that had just arrived at the company. I came, holding a bouquet in my hand. Christopher was just leaving. We glanced at each other quickly, and when I turned to welcome the guests, a young lady came down from the big black Jeep with tinted glass. She took them off. Right there, I was facing Lisa Park. She's a top model who was once Christopher's girlfriend in college. They broke up because she got a contract, and despite how much Christopher was willing to get married to her, she wanted more—not to get married and definitely not to become a stay-at-home wife.

"Oh my goodness! Nina?".

She immediately rushed over, and we hugged. I tried not to give away the fact that her ex-boyfriend was standing in a corner, staring dumfoundedly at the both of us. Unfortunately, Christopher couldn't hold back; he came and presented himself to his ex-girlfriend.

"Lisa?". Christopher took my hand away and hugged her. I became unimportant to him, and immediately he set his eyes on her. His first girlfriend and the woman he adored, including his parents, Mom, loved Lisa as if she were her own daughter, but when Christopher and she broke up, it hurt her, but my foster brother was in a lot of pain.

Do I rejoice that destiny has brought the boy, whom I love, and his ex-girlfriend back, or do I freak out that his long-lost love for her might resurface again? ..
