Chapter 2

Getting Mary and everything back in the car really wasn't as easy as I thought it would have been with everything still mostly packed as we hadn't gotten to the unpacking part as of yet. It had taken a little more time than I had wanted it to take but we were still able to leave before any wolves showed up.

Keeping my eyes in the rear view mirror I saw some shadows of wolves just as we were turning from the dirt road onto the paved road. I hope and pray to the Moon Goddess that they do not give chase and just let us leave peacefully and without a fight.

I might not have seen anyone following but being on the run for the last five years have definitely taught me that not seeing someone following doesn't mean that they aren't following behind you. I drove around taking random turns and making random stops just to be sure that I wasn't being followed and that they had just wanted to install a false sense of security by staying a little back making me think I am not being followed at all.

Deciding that it would be best to pull over and get some rest for the rest of the night before continuing somewhere again tomorrow I went to the nearest town that should have a bed and breakfast.

As I was driving I saw a 24 hour local store and stopped getting all Mary's favourite foods and snacks as she will be one hangry little girl when she finally wakes up from her nap. She fell asleep almost immediately after we started driving which was good because I don't like her seeing me so worried and looking over my shoulder.

After I got the needed groceries and supplies I drove further till I saw a bed and breakfast that had their ' rooms available' sign shining brightly.

This is definitely not a life of lap and luxury as some people are led to believe. Some days you really barely get any sleep in or you stay in crappy places just to get some sort of rest to be able to continue running for your life.

I had successfully booked a room for the two of us and was just in time back to the car for little Mary to start stirring and waking up.

"Where are we daddy?"

She rubbed the remains of the sleep from her eyes and looked at me with her green and blue mix eyes. Those eyes are really beautiful.

"Just at a place to sleep tonight. We are leaving tomorrow again as soon as I have found a new place for us to live in and go to. I promise we won't be sleeping here longer than tonight and..."

I fetched the bag of goodies and showed it to her. She was so excited that she squealed.

I unbuckled her from her seat and gave her a little light bag to carry up the stairs to the room where we will be spending the night. After we ate and had some snacks and hot cocoa as tradition is I put Mary to bed.

Once I was certain that she was fast asleep I snuck out and went to go for a run in the forest. Ares was happy to be let out as I had to keep him on a tight lease the last couple of days because of the constant moving around and with Mary being sick there just wasn't the time to let him out.

I let him take the lead so I could sit back and think of what to do tomorrow and where to go. Usually I do a lot of research about the small place and the people of the place as well as the packs in or near the new town.

When I arrived back to the motel I quickly slipped on my pants and the shirt I left out for me in the tree and ran back to the room as I didn't want to leave Mary alone for too long. Opening the door slowly I see that she is still in dreamland and quickly get my laptop before moving to the couch as to not bother her.

It was just before ten when I started working and when I looked up it was already four am and I knew I needed to go and lie down and get at least that little three to four hours of sleep before getting back on the road.

I was awoken by little hands trying to tickle me. I pretended not to be feeling her little hands when I heard her sigh and climb on top of me trying to tickle me even better. I had her right where I wanted her and trapped her in a giant bear hug tickling her all over and hearing that little laughter of her that I have grown to love over the years. After our little tickle fest we just laid in bed, giggling and cuddling until I heard her stomach start growling.

"Is someone hungry?"

I poked her stomach and asked her. She giggled and nodded her head yes. I knew she would be hungry. She is always hungry. After another few tickles I got up and went to get breakfast ready while Mary got dressed. I can't wait to see what combination she comes up with for today. Thinking back to the ones the last week her choice is definitely going to be funny.

I had gotten quite a lot of work done last night and even had the whole trip planned out for the next few days. I was thinking that we could go along the paved road and see where it leads us. The only packs in the area is one peaceful pack a couple of hundred of kilometres away and we will not be heading in their direction either way just to be safe.

After breakfast we got on the road and drove the most of the way to the room that I had booked for the night on the way to the little house that will probably become home for a little longer than the normal two or three months we usually stay.

Only time will tell I am afraid.
