Chapter Forty-three

Alina’s POV

I met Clara when life had pushed me to the edge when I didn't have any reason to live anymore. I had no money, no friends, no prospects for my future, no family, nothing.

It was after I ran away from Sebastian Wolfe for the first time.

The world had ended and left behind a young woman and I was left in a dead end. No one wanted me anywhere.

I was stuck in a place I didn't know existed, a dark place in my head, where I lived alone and didn't exist. It was lonely, frightening, but most importantly empty.

All the hope and happiness drained out of me and my life was turning into an endless nightmare.

Victor had kicked me out of his house. I remember how much I pleaded for him to take me back after I ran fromSebastian, I begged to stay with a monster because I had no clue on what my next step was supposed to be.

He had told me that if I stayed any longer he'd kill me and I was convinced that he was right.

So I decided to leave.

There wasn't anything I could do anymore. I had lost all chances of finding something better.

Something real.

For days I begged on the streets, for days I begged for jobs but no one paid me any attention, they all thought I was high on crack or worse.

In their eyes I was a junkie that was just begging for whatever they thought they needed to buy their drugs and booze, to pay off the bills and get by. That I was trying to use them like a pawn to get my way.

I was desperate and desperate people do stupid things, like begging, crying, running, jumping off tall buildings, and cutting off their wrists with shards of glass and a few more things.

I had gotten the last rejection and I couldn't handle it properly. I sat by a corner in the street crying, no one stopped to ask why.

If I were in their shoes I would have asked but it was an eye-opener on how much the world had lost its kindness or maybe I was too much of a dreamer, an unrealistic dreamer that was too caught up in her unrealistic world.

But that didn't matter. All that mattered was that it made me realize that I needed something more. A change. A break. Someone to care for.

Something to help me get past my pain and that was when I picked up that shard of glass that was beside me and without thinking too much about it, I cut myself with it.

I knew that it was wrong, but I couldn't help myself. I wanted to feel better, even if it meant giving myself up for it.

I wanted to go to the world beyond, I wanted to go a whole new world where I had loving parents. But I sat there, hugging my arms in the dark, I bled until I lost consciousness.

But the great beyond didn't look anything like I had imagined, the lights were almost blinding when I opened my eyes. It didn't seem to have the feeling as the world I remembered them describe.

It felt different, foreign even.

It had plain white walls and when I tried to get up, my head was dizzy and I fell back down. I had forgotten where I was or how I got here, and even though I desperately wanted to remember, a sense of hopelessness overcame me and a huge sense of despair washed over me.

“Relax” a light pretty voice said to me. I didn't know who she was.

“Where am I?” I was still confused.

The voice laughed gently “Relax, you're at the hospital”

She smiled at me.

It was the first kindest smile anyone had given me and it made me cry harder than the cuts on my body could ever make me.

After what seemed like hours and after what might've just been seconds, I heard her move from where she sat to my side.

“There there” she comforted me with another hand on my arm.

“You're safe now, you're gonna be alright,” she said softly. “Just hang tight for now... we're gonna have you well soon”

We?

It was only then I knew that Clara McKenna was my guardian angel and she proved that every day since then.

She took me in, knowing nothing about me, even when I barely spoke for months, she never stopped caring. She treated me like one of her sisters.

She saved my life. I owed her, and I'll always owe her.

“Ma you zoned out again!” Clara's tone sounded accusatory

“What?” I was defensive

“You didn't listen to me”

“Sorry,” I gave her a small apologetic grin.

I didn't really understand what she was asking me but it must be important to explain.

She sighed “It doesn't matter, anyway” she shrugged it off. “Anyway, when were you going to tell me why you asked me to come here?” she wriggled her eyebrows suggestively.

“Oh that…” I frowned. “I have had a lot going on Clara, you've no idea.”

“Really?” she looked doubtful. “We all have a lot going on ma”

“We are outside the office, you don't need to call me ma”

Clara looked at me with an expression I couldn't understand . She had been waiting for an explanation for ages, and the way she held herself told me that she wasn't happy about the fact I hadn't given her one.

“I want to know where this came from,” she said finally.

“Look, I shouldn't have spoken to you the way I did or said the things that I did” I sighed deeply. “I didn't mean to upset you. I have just had so much going on in my life lately and I'm not good at expressing those kinds of feelings”

Clara nodded her head as if understanding completely and I realized that she probably understood a lot more than I realized.

We both burst into laughter . She pulled me close and hugged me as I started to bawl

“Don't worry” she whispered. “You're going to be alright”

But the voices in my head were active. “Alina, are you even listening to me?” One snapped, pulling further into my thoughts.“Who?” I asked, confused. I knew who it asked for, and I knew what it was talking about but trust me when I say no one wanted their fears to be confirmed.“That’s what I was wondering” another sighed. “What if it was ” it repeated its question. I could imagine the voice as that of a lean woman, staring at me with crossed her arms and warm amber eyes piercing through the bottom of my soul and trying to figure me out but I looked away immediately. The hair in my arms stood involuntarily at the mention of his name, causing my whole body to tense up. I remembered the last time. I was giving him more power than necessary. He still managed to b

Sebastian’s POV “What is this madness?” One of the men yelled, he was staring at me with cold icy eyes, and his accent was heavy.“What does it look like? Be patient and watch.” I responded calmly, although I really wanted to tear them into pieces. When the video finished playing, they both turned to me, faces white as paper, their mouths agape. I could have sworn that their hearts skipped a few beats when the video played the first time. Then one of them looked at the other, he gave him a slight nod as if he had just completed some kind of mission. The one called Pierre cleared his voice. “What do you want?”he asked. He didn't seem so confident now. In fact he seemed downright scared. But what was there to be afraid of, he thought. I’m not going to kill you or anything, so calm down. Calm down.“Well, first of all, you need to answer a question for me” A smirk appeared on my face. The man looked surprised but nodded in agreement. “Did you really think you could get away with hara

Sebastian’s POV “The French men, they molested me” The words fell off her lips and I could feel the blood rushing to my face, though there was no emotion on her face. This was a mistake, I must have misheard. It couldnt be possible. All I saw was red. I was angry and sad and confused and scared. I couldn't remember why I had felt these things, but I remembered those words very cleary. Those words were engraved into my mind, they found a way to keep themselves in my memory. It played on a loop in my mind, the image of her lying broken and bleeding on the floor, the smell of her fear in my nostrils, her broken soul. It felt like I could remember her, more like sew every single detail, the sound of her screams, and every single word she screamed. The way her eyes were wide open and full of fear as she tried to call for me, I'd always hear it echoing in my mind. I could picture the men laughing while they tossed her back and forth, I could imagine them staring at her luscious body,

Alina’s POV My vision blurred when I woke up and blinked away the dark spots in front of my eyes, trying to understand where I was, what happened. My body felt tense like a rubber band pulled taut as it stretched from my shoulders to my knees, but when I tried to move any muscle in my body it just hurt. It was like there were wires connected to all my limbs, some in my back, others in my legs and feet. It made it hard for me to sit up, so I had to lean against the bed.“Relax…” I heard a familiar voice. “Just relax. You're fine.""Mister?" I croaked out, my voice sounding raw even to my own ears. He laughed.“From Sebastian to Mister, but I will take it” he said. His voice sounded distant, like I was listening through a tunnel. “You're safe here, we're going to get you out of that position in a few minutes, just let your muscles uncoil." His warm hand rested lightly on my shoulder. “I feel trapped.”"It's okay...you're not trapped." I could hear the smile in his voice. “You ju

Sebastian’s POVShe looked so frail as she laid there in the hospital bed, her head was wrapped up in bandages and her face pale and sickly looking from her blood loss. After she stormed off at the park, I didn't go after her. I didn't expect her to go far either but soon time passed and there was no sign of Alina. So I assumed she had gone home but when I got home, she wasn't back. She didn't answer any of my calls or texts. Eventually she returned, her shoulders hung lowly in defeat but still she stood tall with a defiant tilt to her chin and a determined set to her eyes. I could still tell something wasnt right from the way her body stiffened and her gaze avoided mine. “Where have you been?” She shrugged noncommittally. “Around.” Her voice sounded like it belonged to someone else. It was quiet and flat and hollow. But the more her expression changed, the more I realized how much I hated that look on her. It only lasted a second before her facade slipped and tears fell

  • His Contract Wife Revenge   Chapter forty-six

Alina’s POV I didn't tell Sebastian anything when I got home. There was nothing to tell. I maintained a distance as much as I could, not responding when he spoke to me. I couldn't let him know what had happened. That would only mean more chaos. I was tired of the chaos it had managed to become a part of my everyday life.I was going to see the French men by myself the next day, I would make it work, with or without his help.“What are you offering?”“A partnership with my company is going to be a big step for us. It would give a fusion both to French and American culture , it gives people the same experience. My team will be in charge of developing the products and marketing your own, it is going to bring us together.” I smiled at the men in front of me . They looked like business tycoons but their demeanor was different - they weren't arrogant or condescending. In fact, they seemed eager to have a collaboration between companies. A few seconds of silence passed between them, as if
