Chapter twenty one

As the path to his house opened up in front of him, Nicholas slowly made his way through the bushes.

He maintained the same expression, but he began to feel uneasy inside because he knew his family members would be curious as to why he didn't show up for the Thanksgiving meal.

He knew he had informed the residents of his arrival when he opened the gates, which creaked open. He raised a hand to cover his face as a bright torch flashed in his eyes and he moved on towards the door.

His brother's husky voice rang in his ears, "You went there again, didn't you?"

The twenty-year-old turned his head to the ground and disregarded his brother's voice. Fred was keeping watch at the doorstep and trying to elicit a response from Nicholas, who was constantly acting insensitively toward everyone.

Nicholas attempted to enter the house by his brother's side but was stopped by the arm.

"I did go there, yes. Nicholas avoided making eye contact with Fred and asked icily, "So?"
